One last run?

https://nypost.com/2018/07/07/is-hillary-clinton-secretly-planning-to-run-in-2020/

I have been observing some hints here and there, and a current "New York Post" emphasizes the possibility that Hillary is gearing up for yet another run to be President.

The question is: Whether Republican or Democrat or other, do we see that as a good thing?

Assuming that if he runs, and it appears that he will, President Trump is a shoo in to be the 2020 nominee, who among the proposed Democratic contenders do you want to see as the nominee?

One Last Run for Hillary?

no ****ing way. run someone who can defeat the orange fool soundly.

Joe Manchin

The Democrats will start winning if they stop trying to shove a far-left agenda down people's throats.

Darn. I should have included Oprah in the poll choices.

Joe Manchin

Among all the Democrats with a shot to win, I would agree. I like Joe Manchin. But unfortunately he isn't indicating any intention of running. If anything he somewhat indicates he is ready to jump ship on political parties.

Of course Maxine isn't indicating any intention of running either but I just tossed her in for grins and giggles. :)

So in your opinion, who would that be?

i don't see a sure thing. i would pick someone new and exciting, as the most entertaining candidate usually wins. also, the Democratic party needs new leadership. the level of failure that produced an idiot like Trump and total Republican dominance of the government at all levels means that it's time for a complete Democratic reboot.

Someone younger with a well thought out game plan. None of those listed peak my interest. That said, unless the Dems do something very stupid, Hillary, and trump runs again, still debatable, I will not support trump, and even then I would not vote for him. I would suggest that Repubs do not ignore possible alternative candidates, trump is getting up in age, and if he gets ham stringed by a Democratic House he may just give up, it is what he does when things get hard.

I surely hope she's smart enough to not let herself wreck another election. She's spoiled meat. No matter how unfairly she may have been treated on certain topics, she spent years lining up her shot with the entire party behind her (apart from the Bernie crowd) and she missed.

Her best chance was in 2008, when she got out of Obama's way. She was too old in 2016 and had far too much baggage, much of it collected as part of Obama's administration.

Not fair again, as Trump is nearly the same age, but we judge women differently. The baggage she earned, one way or another.

The Dems need fresh faces, and better ideas. The don't seem inclined so far. Whoever they do go with, they need to get moving fast. Trump never stopped campaigning.

Based off of that list I would most like to see a Sanders/Booker ticket I think.

NYP, being a right wing rag, certainly wishes that were the case if nothing else.

Reopening old wounds among the Democrats and an outside chance this proven, ineffectual failure might actually get the nomination? Sounds like their fantasy scenario.

Per everything I've seen, the future of the Dem party appears to be increasingly leftward (and more or less towards pretty much every poll I've seen on popular support for public policy), regardless of the corporate/third way wing's very best attempts to circle the wagons and retain power after their devastating 2016 (and prior) losses. At this point the best they can do is slow its drift; FDR democrats are back in a big way.

Of the current (apparent) field, despite obvious attempts among said Clinton camp to present false progressives like Kamala Harris and Cory Booker for consideration, I'm not fooled (though I appreciate their apparent, albeit probably not at all genuine stances on Medicare for All) and Bernie remains by far my favourite; he could have won against Trump in 2016, and he can win in 2020; he needs to pick his VP carefully though. I wish Ocasio-Cortez were seven years older so that I might throw in with her as Bernie's clear and apparent successor.

I haven't voted because I am somewhat conflicted.

I voted for President Trump not because I liked him personally or because he was entertaining or because I thought he was an exemplary person because to me he wasn't any of those things, at least consistently. But I voted for his vision and what he wanted to at least try to do for America, almost all of which I have been personally campaigning for more than three decades now. He has not disappointed and, unless he seriously stumbles, he will get my vote in 2020 if he runs.

But assuming the haters will be able to take him down--I don't use the term lightly, but I just don't see any coherent agenda coming from the Democrats or left so I have to assume the only motive to take out President Trump is the intense personal dislike of him--I would hope we would get a forward thinking Democrat instead of a hard core ideologically progressive one.

Is there one on the list of probables? I don't see it.

So how do I vote? For the Democrat I think would do the least damage which would probably be Joe Biden? Or do I vote for the one I think doesn't have a prayer to be elected?

They didn't peak my interest either but I'm pretty sure it will be one of them listed in the poll above.
IMO, precisely why Trump will win his second term.

Joe Manchin

The Democrats will start winning if they stop trying to shove a far-left agenda down people's throats.

Only problem being, of course, is that the dems aren't actually doing that.

I am not so sure any them or trump will be on the ballot, too soon to tell. Oh and 2 years is a long time for trumps actions to impact the actual voters, for good or bad so I would not count those chickens just yet.

I'm not really interested in any of those listed in the OP and can't name anyone right now. However, I will continue to oppose the Trumplican party because I'm not a billionaire or a deluded evangelical. The trumplicans are trying their best to screw everyone else. Hopefully the dems get their act together before the trumpies finish bringing back the robber baron era.

I would actually contribute money to her campaign to see her make a real legit run in 2020.

Does he? I haven't seen that. What I have seen is the meaner, nastier, more dishonest, more resistive the left gets, the more it strengthens his resolve.

But this thread is not about the President or the Republicans.

If you don't like anybody on the poll list, who do you like?

Well yeah, we're all speculating, but speculating on the data presented in the poll/OP. Hence, why I gave my opinion based on this.

She'd be wasting her time, and your money.

She has no chance whatsoever of getting the nomination. Less than zero, really.

I'd really like the candidate to be a progressive, and I think that day will come, but first we have to delicately remove the Republicans from the Democrat Party...

So who do the Democrats have to put up who can beat him? Who would you like to see as the Democratic nominee?

I'm going to go ahead and pick Steve Bullock, current governor of MT as a darkhorse. He won the governor's race as a D while trump won the state by 20 pts. Negatives and they're big, it's MT a tiny state and I don't think the big city Dems will get behind a rural democrat.

I'm also going to throw out John Hickenlooper, current gov of Colorado. None of the people in the list do anything for me.

I don't know who they'll put up, but it certainly shouldn't be Hillary. She had her shot, she blew it.
