Do you get "gut feelings"?

Do you ever get a gut feeling about anything?

This is actually, among other things, a political question because "gut feelings" figure into politics.

They may figure into politics, but they shouldn't. When you're making decisions that affect the lives of over 300 million people you had better have more than just a gut feeling. You had better have the facts, the numbers, the data, the expert analysis, and the scientific evidence.

When it comes to Democrats, they think with their feelings. They don't care about facts

Every decision they make is based on feelings and then they find the cherry-picked facts to prove their feelings.

Come on man. I just don't know how you can say these ridiculous things with a straight face.

Usually, but not always, those that are drawn to high level leadership roles, are very much gut feeling types. This is true regardless of whether you are talking about politicians or those in C-level corporate positions.

I think it is funny that the creationist / fundamentalist crowd would be saying that its the left that ignores facts and makes decisions based on emotions.

and yet we have a tendency to elect people who ignore scientific fact in favor of their cherished belief systems.

Do you just use every single topic, every single discussion, to bring in your rabid criticism of what you see as the left or what you characterize as the views of Democrats?

I made a post in your thread which basically asked if people use their gut feelings, aka emotions.

No, you took my thread about gut feelings and made it into a partisan attack.

I was merely posting in your thread where you invited responses concerning whether people used gut feelings and I responded that the left certainly do. No offense, but it was a stupid question to begin with because every human both alive and dead has or has had gut feelings, except for you apparently. Now I understand why you are claiming a personal attack. To deny that you have gut feelings is incredible untruthful.

Yep. When I noticed Trump go after minorities in his campaign announcement, I quickly realized we were in for a bumpy ride and in the nearly incomprehensible odds that he would win the nomination, what was at stake for the other minorities (myself included).

Was not proven wrong.

Not everyone gets gut feelings. It is a question of personality types. There are types of people that really don't get them. Now sure, everyone, as we are all animals, are driven to some extent by instinct, but that is different than being someone that is driven by intuition or not.

As to your partisan attack earlier, given that virtually all creationists are Republicans and give than virtually all fundamentalists are Republicans, its pretty rich for you to claim that its Democrats that are driven by emotions rather than logic and facts. Sure. A lot of cognitive processing does seem to happen in the unconscious mind--so while obviously I'm all for rational, analytic, data-driven decision-making, personally I do recognize the importance of certain times when my mind has gotten to a certain place without me entirely knowing how I got there.

The trick in life is knowing how to filter out biases that don't have much value-add and when/if to weight in that unconscious decision-making factor in any given decision.

My take exactly. Our senses are constantly taking in a HUGE amount of data. Our subconscious sifts through all that and then just feeds us a tiny percentage of it in a form that evolution has deemed useful to our survival. So often times those gut instincts are based in hard data, we just aren’t consciously aware of what that data is. But sometimes it is just our imagination and differentiating between the two can be pretty damn tough. Erring on the side of caution is part of why we survived as a species before our technology put us at the top of the food chain.

Everyone gets gut feelings. It is human nature. Your own poll actually proves it.

No it does not, it shows that 3 people that answered it said they did not get them. So while you could say that the poll shows that the vast majority of people feel like they get gut feelings, it also shows that a minority of people don't feel like they get them.

For example, let's say that of the 16 Myers-Briggs Types, 14 tend to get gut feelings, while 2 of the types tend not to. If you took a poll, then the results would look like this one.

LOL. 93% say they get gut feelings. the other "3" are either lying or mistaken.

Please demonstrate how you know what others think, how they perceive their own mind, or how they perceive the world around them.

No it shows that almost everyone has gut feelings. It is a subjective poll. None of us have any idea how anyone else actually perceives their own mind or the world around them.

I provided you a link to back up your own poll. You are just dishonest and refuse to accept facts, because your gut feelings tell you otherwise.

You can't possibly be this clueless. This was your link:

A wikianswer. Moreover, no one is arguing that humans are not capable of intuition, a dog is capable of intuition. The question was whether you get gut feelings, which is a question of personal perception.
