The whole football players kneeling down while the national anthem is going has me wondering how many of us are allowed to protest while on company time. Because I am sure that you can protest and still do your job at the same time. Like wearing a t-**** that says "black lives matter", "abortion is murder" or some other political slogan. Or after giving a customer their burger and fries and saying "blue lives matter" or some other political slogan. Or a button that says "support prop 180". Does your boss or clients( if you are self employed) allow you to protest on the job? Should they allow you to protest while on company time?

No my boss does not allow me to protest while on company time. Nor should they allow employees to protest while on company time due to the fact there are employees and customers of all walks of life who may not appreciate hearing other political views or just may find certain political views offensive.

I fight with my boss about politics all the time, and I fight with my CFO about getting a raise all the time. It hasn't had much success.

I am guessing most employers don’t play the National Anthem before work everytime either.

I honestly don’t give a damn what rules the NFL makes for it’s players. My only concern is that people like the President, who actually have an important job to do, unlike NFL players and management, use this as a distraction from what matters.

I used to with my boss regarding US Politics until I gave detailed explanations as my boss was unfamiliar with the US political system, primaries to say electing judges to portions of the Constitution. We do argue about Canadian Politics

I to have asked my boss for a raise, Always no.

Might I add I am retired and my wife is the boss

Scottish-French, and at times a fiery woman.

No.

And I don't think having a conversation about politics and protesting as a member of the company on company time while you are representing that company is the same... whatsoever.

If I was paid millions and next year could be the concussions that fry my brain, I'm not sure how much I'd worry.

Of course not. That would be silly, and even sillier for an employee to expect to be able to and remain employed.

Yes, per your description my boss absolutely does and that's his choice. If he didn't that would be his choice too.

Yup. And in a stadium packed with 60,000 fans and millions more watching on television.

The NFL piggybacked on patriotism for decades. Now when it's not working out so well, they don't know what to do.

While my boss clearly has an agenda we are not allowed to express ours to the public (As it should be).

When I ran my business if one of my staff would have professed his backing for someone I'd have had his head. Pissing off a customer is the last thing I wanted.

My company has unlimited PTO so yes.

Correct.

The flip side is when you leave the company, you don't get back-paid for PTO you didn't use.

How does this company stay in business?
What sort of policies are in place to prevent someone from being hired, and then just stay home, not working and expecting to be paid in full?

There must be more to this story, is the impression that I'm left with.

I'll rephrase that to "unlimited PTO, within reason".

You can't join the company and then get paid to go on vacation for a year.

Might it be:

PTO = Personal Time Off (without pay - salary based employees have a modification, of course)?

Yes, but its restricted to areas and days, dress code wise. Assembly workers on the floor are allowed to wear tshirts and hats and at times those things may have a message, i dont really pay attention. test engineers like me have a light dress code expect casual fridays. Many fridays theres an office lady that wears her BLM shirt. It sticks out because its so cute lol Shes probably one of the oldest employees, shes in purchasing but shes that stereotypical office lady that radio shows and tv probably refer too. She knows all of us and the name of our kids etc.

anyway stuff like this is up to the owner/company management/HR . . currently its allowed here. Maybe one day it wont be. either way is fine with me.

Does your boss allow you protest while on company time?.

Only if I can bill the time to a customer (j/k)
Generally I'm of the opinion, that while your employer is buying your time and effort, you represent him and only him. Not your religion, not your politics, and not your morals.
Doesn't matter if your worst enemy walks in; you are obligated to plaster on a smile, deliver outstanding customer service, and wait until you are off the clock to hate them.

Okay, so you count yourself as someone that should decide what matters to the President, and has a long list of things he has neglected only because he has paid attention to the national anthem debate?

Why do you care about my employer's rules? I don't care if your employer requires you to wear suspenders, forbids you from having facial hair or tattoos, or makes you sign documents in a green pen. What difference does it make what my employer does?
