In that regard it is no different than fundamentalist Christianity. For my entire life, conservative Evangelicals have argued that man's law does not supersede God's law. Thus their opposition to same sex marriage, their support of sodomy laws, blue laws, and covenant marriages.

Moreover, there are Muslim mayors of major cities in Europe. For example, Sadiq Khan mayor of London, Ahmed Aboutaleb mayor of Rotterdam, neither of them are theocrats.

And neither of them are former Imams. Not the subject of the thread but I would not vote for a former Evangelical preacher either, not for Congress or anything at all.

If they support a secular government, I fail to see what difference it makes what their religion is (I am saying this as an atheist). Mitt Romney was a leader in the Mormon Church, you would be hard pressed to find a more theocratic sect than Mormons, yet I think it would be ridiculous to argue that he is a theocrat.

Anyone who actually believes all the guff about Moroni handing those golden books - or something - to that Smith character in NY is imo batty and unfit to hold any public office.
