Can insults that are not racist or racially related be just as bad/wrong as racist insults?

Well?

People get hurt feelings over all kinds of crap. It's subjective. Bigotry is objectively harmful to everyone in society, society itself.

Really? Including bigotry toward whites, males and Christians?

So you’re equally fine with mocking Islam and Muslims as you are with mocking Christianity and Christians?

Anti Muslim sentiment is on the rise in America, and yet you want to whine. Nobody campaigned on banning Christians from immigrating or having them register.

You don't recognize bigotry when it's right in front of you.

Given the overwhelming positive support I got when I proposed this poll in another thread, here it is! What do you think? Attaching poll.

Yes, sometimes. That’s my answer, you cracker ass, ofay, honky.

The difference is not the evil of the individual but the scale of the damage.

I see that now you want to subsume bullying into racism as if you’re a voice against bullying when, at the beginning of this you minimized it by comparing it to lynching. Besides, I know that you do not view all bigotry as the same. Racial bigotry towards whites doesn’t bother you. You practically encourage religious bigotry toward Christians.

But most Christians aren't white....

As a white Christian, what are so afraid of and worried about? What's your biggest fear?

He seems to be minimizing racism as nothing more than an insult. He most likely has no idea what it's like to deal with racism and prejudice.

Of 46,000 some odd posts, about 45,000 of are culture war bull**** that ultimately boils down to white guys or white Christians being victims. Anyone can be bullied. Anyone can endure insults. Anyone can be treated terribly. Anyone can be be born into poverty, broken homes, have terrible childhoods, endure great loss and so on. Those are universal sufferings. However, racism is something primarily that minorities endure. As is bigotry.

I am a white man that grew up in poverty. I was bullied at times, I had a terrible abusive childhood that was at times absolutely nightmarish. It sucks, but those are types of suffering that can and does impact anyone regardless of their race, religion, sex, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. However, as a white man, in all of history, of the 200,000 years of human existence, we were never treated like women are in places like Saudi Arabia, or for that matter how women are treated in some fundamentalist Christian circles, or much of Islam. As a white man, in all of history, of the 200,000 years of human existence, we have never been treated like blacks were under Jim Crow, or how the Chinese were under the Exclusion Act, how Jews have been treated in much of history, how gays and lesbians were treated throughout almost all of history or for that matter in some places today.

Maybe that one day they will only represent 80% of political leadership rather than over 95%.

Of course. For example, which is worse to accuse a person of being, a racist or a pedophile?

Or 70% of senior execs at fortune 500s, or 70-90% of police departments in most of America, or less than 90% of all elected presidents.... white genocide, mkay.

Individually, absolutely anything could be "the worst". The only objective measurement is damage to society.

I think everything you’ve responded to is something I directed toward Eco. The things I’m asking have to do with things I’ve seen (or thought I had seen) before.

I am honestly confused by your response. You brought up white racism. I am asking what your biggest fear is concerning white racism.

Very good post. :applaud

I don’t blame you for being confused. I haven’t really addressed my own thread topic. I’m not afraid of being oppressed or whatever. I don’t think we really even know what real oppression is in the US. I don’t think, though, that only racist insults are bad or cause harm. I agree they’re among the worst but I do think other insults could be just as bad.

What do you mean by the bold? Are you talking about white people, or are you talking about the entire history of the US? Because I think it's undeniable that slavery was oppressive, Jim Crow and lynching was oppressive, the genocide of Native Americans was oppressive, the internment camps was oppressive.

As for the rest of your post, could you use an example of an insult to illustrate your point better.

The only insults that bother me are ones that come from people whose opinions I value. If my wife says I acted stupidly or handled something incorrectly, I listen. I greatly value her opinion because in hindsight she's usually right. However, most people are just as big an idiot as I am so what they say doesn't carry any weight. And I could really care less about insults on an anonymous internet forum where most people aren't listening anyways, just waiting for their turn to talk.

There are lots of people in our past that have been oppressed. Black people, women, Chinese and Irish immigrants, gay people, Native Americans, etc. But now, I think most everyone is equal in terms of civil liberties (although there is still issues). Like, I'm glad I'm not oppressed. And that I can get married and stuff now if I want to.

What matters the most is the hate and intent behind the insult.

Should have been clearer, currently we don’t know what oppression here is. I’ve see NFL players be compared to slaves and I’m sorry, I think that diminishes the horror that actual slaves suffered.

As far as coming up with some insult that could be just as bad as a racist one, I’ll need a volunteer...

Not that this is a competition, but ignorant and quite frankly insulting is what it is.
Neither of you seem to have a clue what humans have suffered at each others' hands for most of recorded history, whites included.
