Write your own essay, kid.

What does the American dream and democracy mean to you?

I just need you to answer what Democracy and the American dream mean to you, I'm not going to give the matter a lot of thought

Clearly. But let me put it to you this way, because I don't think you're considering the possibility that your stupid assignment could actually be interesting if you approached it differently:

Would you want the answers to come from 1 Democrat, 1 Republican, 1 Centrist and one Independent? Or,

1 atheist, 1 Christian, 1 Jew and 1 Muslim? Or,

1 caucasian, 1 African American, 1 Hispanic, and 1 Asian American? Or,

1 person on food stamps, 1 lower middle class, 1 upper middle class, and 1 wealthy person?

There are several ways to go at this, and if you don't do it with any thought to the organization your summary will have no cogent theme.

Well, your work ethic may be lacking but at least you are honest. ;)

I think we are way down in the list of nations where you can pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

That is a topic that no one will touch with a ten foot pole because it can only be rife with the usual propaganda, which, if you take it to heart and print the BS, might well earn you an A++++ in school, ... if you attend a USA school.

My "American dream" (which isn't going to be everyone's) is to live comfortably, with a job that I can derive at least some enjoyment and/or satisfaction from, and retire when I am no longer able to work with enough (or in a system which provides enough) to continue living comfortably.

Live comfortably I would define as being able to weather unexpected events and maintain a lifestyle that includes sufficient leisure to avoid undue stress.

Or something like that.

On to the political rant:

I don't think this is very possible in this ****ed up system we currently reside in - the amount of effort needed to obtain that situation is either impossible or extremely stressful, for many.

to me, the American dream means
1. being the last born that no one ever listened to
2. being hyperactive with ADD & taking drugs like all the other kids in the 1960s
3. growing up in a white, christian, southern family
4. visiting the grand parents every weekend
5. going to school and being bored off my ass because the class work & assignments were below my interest
6. being saved by sports & drugs
7. making good money selling street drugs @ age 15
8. graduating high school & going out into the world to make a living in the oil field @ age 18
9. getting credit; going into debt
10. paying taxes to the man
11. not getting busted for selling drugs
12. leaving my home state & moving to Dallas
13. finding a whole new world just three hours from my old planet (home)
14. getting to know some of the well heeled & wealthy of Highland Park & University Park (Dallas)
15. not getting murdered by crazy assholes in Dallas County
16. getting out of the 'drug trade'
17. learning 9/11 was a false flag
18. moving to Minnesota & freezing my ass off
19. beginning to discover the American dream is actually the American nightmare ..........

to me, the American dream means

19. beginning to discover the American dream is actually the American nightmare ..........

And don't the people of all Central/South American, SE Asian/... countries know that.

It’s called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. ~ George Carlin

There ARE no more bootstraps; everything is attached by velcro.

The American Dream to me signifies new opportunities in life, being successful. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness".
