Only rightist ears hear the truth! We should wait for Trump to weigh in, he is the arbiter of what is true.

In the meantime, it's always fun to watch the "party of Lincoln" turn their backs on the founding principles if their party.

I actually listened to what Kanye said. He was sticking it to YOUR party. AKA the Plantation.

He was sticking it to the Independence Party of Minnesota? Wow, he's very specific

Or was this just another excuse to say plantation?

And I doubt you actually heard Kanye, you're just suddenly in love with him because he had nice things to say about your God-Emperor.

I disagree, I am white but a non-US citizen. But we Dutch have a dark and disgusting past too over slavery, and nobody voluntarily chose to be locked in the bowel of a boat for a long sea journey to be sold to people who owned you and could do with you what they wanted. Sorry, but nobody signs up to that, that was the disgusting business of mostly European scum with no morals who transported enslaved people to the rest of the world.

Slavery was a choice....by the slaveholders.

It was a choice--still is a choice--in Africa for centuries. The slave owners had to buy the slaves from somebody.
They bought them from other Africans. So, yeah slavery was a choice by everyone but the slaves. Were Africans a part of that choice. Yes, they were.

But enslaved didn't choose it, that's my point. The African-Americans descended from those slaves didn't.

The way this forum has gone lately, some people will have you believe that slave owners had no choice but to be slave owners because of the type economy the US had, meanwhile slaves had all the choice in the world.

I didn't jump to conclusions like the identity politics followers did.

Uh huh...nobody actually believes that. You heard he was vaguely on Team Trump and decided he's your favorite rapper.

I doubt you would rebel/fight if the risks of losing were torture and death for you and possibly your family and nothing really to be gained by winning, if winning was even possible at all. The best a slave who won an uprising on his plantation could hope for was to go on the run and hide, and hope they weren't captured and killed. Slaves were never in a position to actually change anything.

Slaves like John Horse (who should be an American hero) actually joined with Seminole Indians to fight against both the colonial Americans and Native Americans who had enslaved them -- Most of these ex slaves ended up living in Mexico who had already abolished slavery decades earlier.

They escaped to Mexico because it would be impossible to win a long term battle with the US over slavery -- some may say that is a choice, but I think it is unfair to try to shame slaves who decided not to fight or commit suicide as somehow happy participants in slavery.

This pisses me off when folks say crap like this because as I said before, these are the same people who claim taxation is slavery -- but still pay their taxes because they "CHOOSE" to -- they could just as easily go to jail, have an armed rebellion against the government or move to another country where there are no taxes -- but they don't because it is not slavery, no matter how much they cry and whine that it is.

You're full of yourself....so lets leave it at that.

"Refuse to participate in polls of this nature"

(Thank you for giving me this option in your poll)

The problem here is that the basis of your poll is a lie. West did not say that slavery is a choice. He said that people tying themselves to the slavery of the past is a choice. This poll is based on dishonest out of context reaction.

Poll rejected!

I voted that slavery was a choice, given the current context in which the former institution of black slavery (which has been non-existent for a number of years) is being marketed: White privilege classes that make black 3rd graders ask their moms if white people are better than them.

A choice, yes even black slave owners had a choice.

However it would have been very hard to compete against another farmer if he had free labor and you had to pay for your workers. So in my opinion once the system was established it would have been very hard for any single farm owner to change things. You really needed it to end as it did, or get the south to outlaw it on their own.

in soviet union slavery was legal up to 1986. was it was a choice?

"Passports were introduced for urban residents, sovkhozniks and workers of novostroykas (новостройка, a major construction site of a new town, plant, railway station, etc.). According to the 1926 Soviet Census 82% of population in the Soviet Union was rural. Kolkhozniks and individual peasants did not have passports and could not move into towns without permission. Permissions were given by chairpersons of collective farms or rural councils. Repeated violation of the passport regime was a criminal offence. Passports were issued by the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs (Soviet law enforcement) and until the 1970s had a green cover."

It's just a dime a dozen celebrity making a stupid comment to get more attention.

/end thread.

If you stretch things really far, you can almost see it.

It's a choice not to flee or violently resist slavery - but the problem is, in most cases, even assuming you could manage to escape, the systems in place to recapture and horribly punish or kill you for escaping were significant deterrents.

Not to mention the lack of knowledge about the world outside slavery, and lack of education in most cases.

All of these things were intentionally emplaced as barriers against slaves escaping slavery, should they realize they could.

How do you feel about this?

I think the poll is stupid. Because anyone with a brain cell knows that slavery was not a choice.

Maxine Waters said Kanye West is talking "out of turn" and should shut up... which proves West's point. He is being critical of black adherence to the "Democrat Plantation". Where going against the mantra and criticizing Democratic politicians makes West a pariah and an outcast. How dare he jump the plantation and think for himself. A black person should know their place and not make waves.

"Kanye West talks out of turn.......not have so much to say" Maxine Waters
