Should The US Military Be In Charge Of A Border Wall And Pay For It?

That's because you are a rapid TDS patient. This thread has nothing to do with whether Mexico pays for the wall or not. Please stay on topic and reserve your troll posts for troll threads.

You are not a mod so I could give two shakes of a piss what you think is or is not off topic. Personal attack noted.

The wall is the topic of this thread and I will continue to point out trumps lying whether you like it or not.

Many countries use their military to do just that, guard their borders. The question here is the Posse Comitatus Act. Here's something to think about.

From your link:

Under the Defense Authorization Act for FY2007 (H.R. 5122), the Secretary of Defense, upon a request from the Secretary of Homeland Security, can also assist in preventing terrorists, drug traffickers, and illegal aliens from entering the United States.

Man, I can't wait for the wall to stop the 2/3 of illegal immigrants who come into the countries with work visas & stay after they expire. Building a 21 billion dollar wall that passes through hundreds of miles of uninhabited wasteland will definitely be a worthy investment.

I love sarcasm.

No, the military shouldn’t fund it. If it is to be funded then it should be done by Congress. Once that is done if you want the Army Corps of Engineers overseeing the construction or something then fine. But if you just want regular troops building it then no, that is a waste of their time and isn’t part of their training.

Insofar as it stops drugs and notorious criminals for sneaking in, it's absolutely worth it.

Note to conservatives. Use the terms "illegal aliens" or "invaders" exclusively when referring to these people. These are not immigrants. They are not allowed here. Don't fall for the language of the left which sets you up to fail. At the very least, never use the incredibly insincere term "undocumented immigrant."

Alternatively, we can just legalize the possession (but not the distribution) most illegal drugs & have people caught with about a week's supply of any given substance get recommended treatment and rehabilitation. Treating drugs as a criminal issue has given us the highest incarceration rate in the world & funds the criminals going back & forth across the border. Portugal, meanwhile, has taken the approach I suggest, and it has worked wonders for their society.

Portugal doesn't have our demographics.

The topic of the thread is whether or not the US Military should pay for the wall. Trump wasn't mentioned at all in the OP until your TDS wanted to bring it up, off topic.

Portugal doesn't have our demographics.

That's a fair point. Portugal doesn't share a border with a major marijuana and cocaine distributor; legalizing such drugs entirely would destroy the black market the cartels have set up, and would improve Mexico as well by tearing the funding out from under the feet of their corrupt government officials and gangs.

Meanwhile, we would be able to tax the drugs we've legalized & could pay for rehabilitation of our sick citizens, instead of throwing them into a meat grinder of a prison system that produces violent criminals by the tens of thousands. Everyone wins but the cartels.

Take a stroll through San Francisco and your perception of the merits of drug legalization will be radically altered.

Looking at the overall crime rates of states and nations that have legalized marijuana will make you wonder what other factors are at work in California to make it such a disproportionately awful place to live.

Finally a one of a kind president that is standing up to illegal invaders. Not only did he warn Mexico that he would
terminate NAFTA unless they help stop the Caravan but doubling down he threatened to cut off aid to Honduaras
over the 'big caravan' pulling out all stops "Federal Troops at the border' is being considered.

Demographics.

These are all things that any good government would do. Instead, for the past 50 years we've had a clown government.

If we have the military, what is the point in a border wall? What about Coast Guardsmen? We already have them. Why not use the various branches for the specific purposes that they were founded for instead of being a Political Ringling Bros. Sideshow Carnival Barker?

For what it represents. And I wouldn't waste money. It is unlikely that I am going to win in 2020.

It represents keeping illegals out of the country and you can't stand the thought of that. You want open borders with no border restrictions of any kind. Everyone is an immigrant and should be welcome. You would like to tear down the walls we have now.

Blah blah blah blah blah

You are once again, like you always do, simply lying. I would love for you to be honest here. Show me where I have ever stated that or admit you are lying.

I'll wait, but you won't. You will just keep lying. It is pathetic.

Demographics.

Why?

Saying demographics like it's some magical incantation really doesn't cut the mustard. What about our demographics makes you think we wouldn't get the same result from drug legalization as Portugal?

and pay for it? I say great idea! The border is part of our national security in several different ways so the military should be both in charge of it and pay for it. The border patrol can be a branch of the US Military and the funds to build it can come out of the military budget.

Lets get real, the US military cannot operate on American soil- PERIOD. End of this stupidity.

I don't read VOX. Although I did scan the article and it is, of course, filled with a lot of ifs, ands, and buts. It is very misleading.

Much like the entire premise behind the ideological and irrational wall. So let's add to the political idiocy and rape the military for funds while we are at it. You know, because "we support them."

And if this nonsense were to become real, you think the funds would come out of the gross contracts that go to civilian corporations, which employ civilians in factories across the nation to largely make toys the military doesn't need? No..it will come right off the back of the troop, just like it did throughout the 1990s when Clinton was dealing with the debt; and while the gross contracts to defense corporations continued feeding jobs to the civilians. You people don't deserve our military. But, hey...a pretty wall for the petrified!

It amazes me how far you people go without even a second offered towards self-reflection and a rational thought beyond the shallow ideologies and Fox News baby food. Stupid thread.

...If you mean the economic demographics caused by California's awful taxes and regulations, then yes.

No, I mean that California has a very different people than Portugal. There are economic factors to consider as well, such as homeownership, but if we do not correct for simple things like age and race, then we're not being serious in our comparisons.
