4.Misdemeanor conviction with probation
5.No criminal conviction but counseling/community service
6.Acquittal/Dismissal

Sounds like some weird kind of psychotic episode. The girl's step-dad said he punched the guy in the face a couple times and it had no effect, he cold-cocked him with a steel-toed boot to the head and the guy still struggled when being arrested.
Talk about losing it. And he wasn't held, he was released. If he flips out again there'll be hell to pay.
What should happen to him? Whatever it is, it should last a few years- jail, psyche facility, whatever.

he should face the same misdemeanor & felony charges, and court proceedings as any other non LE civilian would face, and NOT have the opportunity to have his (former) LE union pay his legal bills

Hard time. Or Number 1 per your poll criteria.

Well, he took an ass-whoopin', which is a good start imho.

I think the State should hire Brock Lesnar (the big-ass UFC champ) to give him another ass whoopin', let him see how it feels to be overpowered by someone you have no chance against.

Then maybe 5 years for Aggravated Assault on a Minor, and/or some time in a mental hospital figuring out WTF his problem is. Both sounds good to me.

And never-ever be a cop again obviously. And pay the girl's medical bills and her college tuition.

Prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, or give the girl's dad a baseball bat and 15 minutes alone with him

I would want to know what was in his blood, because this sounds like drugs.

Meth has made a big comeback I have heard.

If this went down as it was told, he's lucky Paw didn't whip out a shootin' iron and put one thru his messed up brainpan.

Like the Black Plague.

My semi-rural area is swimming in the stuff. Appalling.

Felony conviction seems like a no brainer. And once he's convicted, put him in gen pop. No protective custody for this psycho just because he used to wear a badge.

Should we even bother with a trial?

What should the burden of proof be to insure a conviction?

Whatever the sentence is for assault with malicious intent. Looking at the disparity in size and considering the terror she felt ("like she was going to die"), and the fact that he wouldnt stop and had to be forcefully removed from beating and kicking her...drunk or not (dont know)...I'd like to see felony with some prison time. But I dont know what the specific charge would be, nor the maximum sentence. There should be...and are...serious consequences from drinking and committing harm to others.

Too bad he got lucky, eh?

Just what I was thinking. The crazy cop's actions sounds like someone under the effects of PCP/angel dust. I didn't think idiots still used that crap.

My guess is that the cop will be charged with felony assault and it will get reduced to a misdemeanor in exchange for the cop giving up his badge. Then Eric Prince (Betsy DeVoss's brother) will hire him to be head of security.

The cruelty of American society keeps getting worse.

One day we will wake up.

Certainly if this actually happened and there are no extenuating circumstances such as mental illness, he should get significant jail time PLUS be required to pay a significant amount of cash to his victim. If it turns out that he is mentally unfit/mentally ill, he should be put away in a mental institution indefinitely and he still should be required to pay a significant amount of cash to his victim.

Reading the story will tell you everything you need to know.

So...if everything I need to know is in the story...then why bother with a trial?

Your quote assumes all the facts needed.

I will tell you what. I will make a decision about what he might be charged with, after a psych report.

It is because of the extreme violence AND this aspect that raises hackles with me. He has not only gone against years of training, but basic human nature in a way that raises for me issues about mental illness.

I have to say this is a near and dear issue for me. I do volunteer work for the Vancouver Police Service and this is THE main issue they deal with. You are confronted by a man who is in distress but acting violently. It had come to the point too many were getting dead for our liking and so things have changed.
Now, when there is a disturbed individual the cops secure the area and call the mental wellness crew, where they usually talk him down. However they can and DO shoot to kill when they have to.

So, his actions are so far from a norm, I'd like to see a psych report
