Syria - Is War With Israel Imminent 404 Not Found Moon Of Alabama "Israeli F-16 fighter jet downed by Syrian air defense.""Around 6 am GMT the Syrian air defense shot downed an Israeli fighter jet that was attacking the country. There is now the chance that a larger war will ensue. War? Nah. There might be some more incidents, but Syria knows it can't fight Israel even it if wasn't divided against itself.

if a hot war between Israel & Syria became reality IMO it would be the Israelis that would be the ones to 'start' and to 'prolong' a war until which time the Israelis saw fit to end the aggression

Syria would have no say in it .........

as far as the whole 'air space' idea I will say this: If a Russian MIG ever came into US airspace I would hope to high Hell that US military forces would splatter that piece of **** MIG all over wherever .............

Russia might support the Syrian government. Then the U.S. might get drawn in. Then it would shape up to be a modern "Vietnam War" :(

I assume 1 poke in the eye wont lead to a war. I think Israel is testing the waters just to see if they can get away with a sucker punch.
What I dont get is how Israel can claim retaliation when they were the ones invading airspace.
 
It would be against Israel's natural interests to pursue a wider conflict with Syria. At the very least it would likely be met with Iranian, and perhaps Russian response, and possibly involve even more of the world's major powers, the US and NATO including.

I think Israel may get into a war with Iran; they will just fight it in Syria.
 
Assad already has his hands full with the rebels. I don't think he has the time to go to war with Israel.
 
Voted Other, it is unlikely we are looking at all out war between Israel and Syria. There will be continued conflict, but Syria has enough to worry about at home. They are still in the middle of a long term multiple way civil war and had to get into bed with Russia just to keep things going.

Continued mess? Of course, par for the course in that part of the world.
 
There aren't any real wars occurring at the moment so if they go to war that might make things more interesting...

Dave Fagan:

War requires two sides to fight. While Israel is more than capable of waging war against Syria, Syria is not able to wage it back effectively. Using proxies through Lebanon will also likely fail as that could prove an Israeli raid into Lebanon. What is more likely is continued raids on Syria by the Israelis and whatever modest responses the Syrian regime can muster in response.

More worrisome is either an Israeli-Russian incident or an American-Russian incident which could spiral into wider conflict. I am sure the Russians are looking for a way to punish the Americans for their artillery and air strikes against pro-Syrian Regime forces last week, many of whom were Russian mercenaries in service to the Assad Regime. Russia might seek to punish the Americans by attacking Israeli raids in Syria and using defence of Syria's national sovereignty as cover for such second-hand reprisals.

Israel is raiding the Iranians in an attempt to provoke and justify a wider war against Iran. The Iranians are too smart and frankly too worried about provoking an American attack on Iran, so they will hunker down and take their losses rather than going on the offensive in response to Israeli raids against their forces, operating legally in Syria at the invitation of the Assad Regime. If there are Iranian reprisals they will be through deniable proxies in the Levant or against American interests in Iraq.

Syrian government forces have repeatedly used chemical weapons on their own people and actively enabled groups like ISIS to gain strength.

If the Syrians are dumb enough to try to engage US forces, there will be a lot of dead Syrians.

Syria, hmmm, lessee now, that would be land for Syrians. Sovereign Nation, don't ya' know? Exactly why is US invading Syria with aircraft, troops and weapons to kill people. They let ISIS go out of Raqqa and keep their weapons. They let them go to Dier ez Zoar. Hmm, who's side are they on? As for chemical weapons, it's a huge red herring, because if Assad was going to use chemicals weapons, he'd use a lot of them, because they work. The chemical weapons incidients have been false flag incidents by NusraFroat/ISIS/Jabhat alSham and then an organized deception by MSM media CT. Reading comprehension. Remember.

The Israeli army released a video showing the incursion. The drone, which was shot down by Apache helicopters, was "an advanced, low-signature model Israel has never before captured," said Brig. Gen. Tomer Bar, second in command of Israel's air force.

In retaliation for the incursion, four Israeli F-16 fighter jets bombed the Iranian drone control site in Syria.

Returning from that mission, one jet was downed over Israeli territory by Syrian anti-aircraft missiles. The Israeli army said the plane did not suffer a direct hit but was struck by shrapnel from a missile that blew up next to it.

The pilots ejected and were injured but survived.

The jet crashed next to a high school in the Galilean kibbutz community of Hardouf. The school was empty early on the weekend morning.

Syrian state media reported that the downing of the aircraft was ​"a strategic decision of Syria and the axis of resistance to Israel."
