Should Schumer Be Replaced?

I think Rubio would be a good choice. But as I just told Nimby, I think an attitude adjustment in the senate is more important than what name the leaders are. But it will take two exceptional leaders to bring that attitude adjustment back.

Rubio would be great for the Republicans. Who do you think would be the right one for the Dems?

The question on Rubio is could he last before the no compromise ideologues of the senate kick him out. We seen where Boehner was willing to work with Obama get him fired as Speaker. The other side, Jon Tester or Joe Manchin, although both are in the 60's. Perhaps a Baldwin or Heitkamp or some other younger one. I also like the two Democratic Virginia Senators.

This kind of reaction seems over the top to me. We have no idea how any of this is going to turn out for at least three weeks.

well since you carry the democrat party water, of course you would say this. Schumer is a scumbag, insider elitist whos supports the whole ruling class one law for them mentality.

I'm a big Manchin fan. One of the few Dems I could actually support. Yes, he's in his 60s, but he's still got it going on. I think he and Rubio together could make a huge impact.

Yes OH GOD Yes......he is a major part of the failure of Washington, all he knows are the ways of bankrupt corrupt Washington, he has never shown any interest in being a part of the solution.....him and everyone like him owes America their apology and their resignation.
You feel about Schumer the way I feel about those two scum buckets, McConnell and Ryan. We have to admit, neither of us are unbiased.

Schumer is very effective at what he does and that's why you dislike him. I dislike McConnell and Ryan because they cater to the interests of the rich and powerful at the detriment of regular Americans.

The DNC is going to keep losing elections with these buffoons at the wheel.

Their strategy, their competence, their understanding of the issues, it's just all over the place. Sure, they're not Republican alt-right wackos, but that's just not enough to get secular progressive people off the couch, and winning elections again in this country.

It seems that the GOP fears it's base, and the Democratic party fear the GOP base too. Neither of them fear the secular progressive voting base in this country because we don't hold them accountable for failing to deliver. So long as we continue to let blue dog Democrats rule the roost, we will continue to see these pathetic results.

I agree with all of this except I would call the Democrats in power right now corporate Democrats, and definitely not Blue Dogs.

Hopefully with both McConnell and Schumer gone, it leads to younger and fresher faces in the leadership roles of both parties. It's time for a generational change. Maybe a Gardner, Rubio, Ernst or the like on one side. I've always liked Jon Tester and Joe Manchin, but they are up there in age. Perhaps a Baldwin, Heitkamp or one of the two Virginia senators.

the thing probably more important than just a name change which seems what we had when the Democrats went from Reid to Schumer, we need an attitude adjustment. We need to get back to the cooperation that was seen between Dole and Mitchell, Lott and Daschle. We need leaders who can talk and listen to the other side and work for the betterment of the country, not just their party.

The GOP House is already stating firmly they won't abide by mcconnell's promise. There's the real problem since 2011, the GOP House of NO.

I won't accept a false-equivocation between Reid and Schumer, especially when mcconnellism with the freedom caucus isn't going anywhere.
Maybe you haven't noticed the **** Schumer is taking from his left, mcconnell's 'long game'.

It wouldn't have mattered which of the 49 Senate DEMs were the Majority Leader.
It would still be time for the DEM to go if they can't work with mcconnell.

Let's kick out the illegal soldiers in our Military first ...

I would personally like Schumer gone because he is a weak leader. Talking about looking for bipartisan solutions to problems always sounds nice, but if the other team wacks you in the head every time you extend your hand it is time for something different. You can't make up for caving in by making jokes about the president. Enough talk, it is now time for action.

He runs the Senate, and the Senate belongs to all of us, so no.

Palpatine is the Senate!

I don't think Joe stands a chance. He is more akin to an old fashioned conservative democrat. He isn't partisan enough. He takes each issue one at a time and makes his mind up on the merits of the issue or legislation. Not party line all the time.

But to bring come common sense back to the senate, governing, both in my opinion would be ideal for that. But neither is probably partisan enough to obtain the leadership. Only hard core, die hard ideologues need apply.

You mean the Democrats that just got CHIP renewed for millions of children without giving up anything are corporate Democrats? Who knew?

Democratic partisans continue to vote for ******s and wimps and expect different results. Don’t laugh and point fingers if you are a GOP partisan. Trump, McConnell, Cotton and the rest are not the answer.

What America needs is a new government, one based on actual democracy with equal rights and justice.

You're hung up on McConnell this morning. You aren't reading or as some would say, listening. Just spouting rhetoric.

It would be up to the people of NY, not likely. They'll stop Cuomo at the polls because all he does is create more taxes, Shcumer is known for bringing home the bacon, true or not.

I will be voting against every single incumbent on the national level this November. They all are complicit with the shutdown mess.

What mess. Just a few days without damage being done as usual.

Spouting rhetoric that you can't deny.
mcconnell's evasive promises mean nothing to the GOP House of NO, and mitch knows it.
Today we hear GOP House members mocking the Senate, saying No Deal on DACA, ever.
But .... Schumer or whoever the DEM leader is needs to go ...

trumpcons are crowing that Sen. Schumer is catching **** from the left; that's how serious they are in governing.
Thanks for pointing out that DEMs got CHIP that ryan/mcconnell had held up as a hostage ...

Agreed. Democrats vote for Democratic candidates that have the goal of preserving the social safety net (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, ACA, etc.) raising taxes on wealth and defending the environment. They are diametrically opposite the Republicans that want to lower taxes on the wealthy and pass that burden to the middle class; reduce or eliminate the social safety net and cut every regulation, including environmental regulations, to bow to their corporate masters.

Services where shutdown. This will cost extra money that could be better spent elsewhere.
