After her speech of yesterday at the Golden Globes (but i heard the same stuff in years past), people are posting on social media that it might be a good thing for Oprah to run for president.

How would people here feel about that candidacy?

Same as Trump. She is completely unqualified.

If she features my work in her presidential book club I'd vote for her.

She is completely unqualified, yes. But Trump was not. Trump has met with world leaders and world politicians for years - he had to in order to build a global real estate empire. Trump is a CEO which is what a president is. Trump did everything a president does (except military stuff) except in the private sector. Oprah is just a leftwing big mouth who still claims she's the victim of racism even though she is richer than Midas.

I voted "Yes," but that's just as "a chance" as the OP question asks.

It would have to depend on who else was running and what her positions were.

Yes, I am not asking if people would certainly vote for her but whether or not she has at least a chance to get their vote if she decides to run 2020.

Not a chance. No way, no how. With their positions on abortion, transgender, and quite a few other things my conscience will never, ever, EVER allow me to vote for a Democrat.

Oprah has done everything that you mentioned Trump has done. And she's STILL unqualified for the same reasons that Trump was/is. Neither knows how to navigate the political landscape, which is very different than being a celebrity, a TV star, or a business person, things both have been, and neither really understand how to work with others effectively since both have been "in charge" for a long time. Both are completely incompetent for the job for very similar reasons.

Oprah has met with world leaders and world politicians for years in order to build a global real estate empire? Uh... ...NOT

God I hope not.

Although I would vote her in over Trump! Let's pray it doesn't come to that.

:lamo

Yeah, Trump may have met world leaders, but that does not make him qualified. Trump sells his name, not sure that makes him leader of a "global real estate empire".

Oprah is a CEO as well, which is what a president is. Also, Oprah started her organization, Trump has not.

Oprah is one of the most influential women in the world and has been so for many many years, something you cannot say about Trump.

And unlike Trump, Oprah has a television network that reaches about 70% of US homes with a television.

And to call Oprah a big mouth is just ludicrous seeing that you support one of the biggest loud and foul mouthed presidents ever in the US.

Geeh, what a surprise looking at your avatar and your user name.

As an unaffiliated conservative, I can't answer your poll.

Yes...No...hell, who knows? Not me. I don't know all that much about Oprah and I didn't watch that speech.

Let's see...I know she's done a little acting, but I haven't seen her movies. I know she had (has?) a daytime TV show, but I've never watched it. I guess I'm aware that a lot of people...Hollywood-loving liberal types, I think...absolutely LOVE her. Shrug...

I don't know anything about her politically. I don't know anything about whether she has experience leading anything. So, I just can't answer the poll.

That's pathetic.

2017: The stock market has boomed, GDP growth has improved and unemployment is at an almost 17-year low, the biggest set of tax cuts in over 30 years, 10 regulations abolished for each new one added, boosting pay for our troops, growing our military, the nation’s new policy "America First", arrests of people trying to cross illegally into the United States from Mexico are at the lowest point since 1971.

And now, your taxes are cut. Your checks will be bigger.

When will people like you lay off the Trump-Hater bandwagon

She has done it to build her media empire, not different from a global real estate empire. CaptainCourtesy was quite right, you are not. Just about everything you mentioned about Trump Oprah has done (CEO, meeting world leaders) and she is actually an inspiration to many people during most of her career, something you cannot say about Trump.

Yeah, I know Trump boasts about economic achievements that mostly have been achieved without any real influence by him. The biggest tax cut in over 30 years :lamo

His tax bill isn't even the biggest in the last 10 years according to tax experts.

Hard to say. She'd be better than Trump, but I was hoping we could raise the bar higher than that in 2020.

Also how about the fact that neither of them have any well thought out political ideas. Ten years ago before Obama, Oprah said she wasnt political and didnt even interview politicians and now shes somehow going to thought of as POTUS material. I dont see how anyone could seriously consider her for president. Of course I said the same about Trump and here we are.

Would she though?shes got just as big of an ego and shes nearly just as stupid

No, no way. One inexperienced individual who had never governed or been part of our governing system, never held any public office is quite enough for me. Whether one's politics is left or right, that doesn't matter. One needs to have an idea of what is going on in government, how to work with others in government, with the different organizations, agencies, legislative bodies, etc.

At the moment this seems to be about her being the best thing about a very dull and depressing Hollywood awards show.

She isn't nearly as shady and secretive of her business dealings, and has fewer bankruptcies.

We haven't seen as much of her as we have of Trump, so it's hard to say what she would turn out to be. Never the less, if I had to put money on it, I would guess she'd be better rather than worse. We're talking about a very, very low bar here.

It's almost as if other people have different priorities to you and are affected by things differently to how you are :O

No...
If Oprah has any sense she'll forget about it. It's probably a thought just to get a reaction.
Bottom line she'll lose big time no matter what ticket she'll run on.

That's because she has taken fewer chances on big projects - assuming you are correct that is. Big-time investors and builders and risk-takers always have a few failures in the wake of successes. That's the way it goes. Trump is a builders and a risk-taker who has built a global empire. Oprah is just a talk-show blowhard, a lardass who started out saying her lines on the news and then got a talk show. Big friggin deal
