Democrats -- Oprah as your next presidential nominee?

Oprah as the Democratic nominee?

Interesting how the right has a fascination with celebrity actors. First Reagan, then Arnie, and now Trump. Who's the next celebrity actor that will become a heroic figure to the right? Heck, if Eastwood wasn't as old as he is, I'd say it would be him.

As for Obama, you make a good, albeit flawed point. For one, Obama, even with little political experience, still had more than a Reality T.V. game show host. Two, the right complained for 8 years about Obama's lack of political experience, and then elect a guy with even less than Obama. Three, Obama won the presidency largely as a rejection of the GOP and their (at the time) piss poor and highly unpopular president. Trump won because he used the birther issue and a host of other ridiculous race baiting nonsense to steamroll his way past 16 other GOP candidates.

Oprah talk is just another ruse by the rightists to deflect from the 2018 elections, as well as create another boogiewoman ...

You kidding? I'd love to see Eastwood as POTUS! The Duke also. ;) Just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean that you don't have brains. Of course it doesn't mean that you do have brains either. ;)

I'll just say that some of this is debatable at leave it at that for now.

Reagan was a celebrity and he did pretty good both as Gov and President. Arnold was a celebrity and whether or not he did good is up for debate but he served two terms in California so must not have been all that bad. Focusing on Trump because he's front and center and ignoring history because of your hatred for Trump doesn't help your cause here.

Edit: Oh yeah, PleasantValley reminded me....and then you have Obama who had very little experience himself before becoming President.

Obama served in public office for four years longer than Reagan.

If it was "solely about race" as you say then why wasn't Hillary Clinton, a WHITE WOMAN elected then?
She was not because it was not "solely about race".

Electing Obama was the single most racist act our country has ever done.
Ida Amin could have run and gotten elected. Skin color was his sole "accomplishment", and all anyone looked at.
Not caring about policy, experience, or anything else.

Trump got elected because of several factors, but the biggest, in my opinion, was his hard-line stance on illegal immigration.
he was the only one who brought it to the forefront of the election.
Everyone else from both sides chose not to even talk about it.

Trump won the GOP nomination because he made race a central part of his campaign. He is, by definition, an affirmative action president.

Obama won largely as a rejection of a bad Republican president. Big difference.

Obama didn't need race to win. Trump, however, did.

Why did trump wait until AFTER the GOPrimaries in the South to disavow the KKK ?

A common lie/misconception. In point of fact Trump had been disavowing the KKK for years. Even before his first attempt at a presidential run.

As much as you can say that when Trump did better with people of color and worse with whites than Romney did.....

speaks volumes to how bad Hillary Clinton was as a candidate, no?

Oprah talk is just another ruse by the rightists to deflect from the 2018 elections, as well as create another boogiewoman ...

Well, their hero Trump has called Oprah a wonderful woman numerous times...wonder how they'll spin that.

Then again, for most of his life Trump LOVED Hillary Clinton...until it became politically convenient for him not to.

Are you sure you want to call me a liar on something I can back up, Kal'Stang? Try trump's own quotes BEFORE and AFTER the Southern primaries ...

Apparently she made some sort of speech tonight at the Golden Globes and Twitter has exploded with Oprah for President tweets. So, is she your choice for the Democratic nominee or someone else?

So this had me curious I had to investigate

Nice speech, VERY nice speech IMO but it doesnt make me think presidential candidate

Obama served in public office for four years longer than Reagan.

Umm....how is that possible? Obama served a total of 18 years in public office. Reagan served a total of 16. Might want to check your math there. ;)

In any case...your point?

:shock::lamo

Thank you sir, daily many things are posted here that are monumentally absurd. But the statment above is easily the most retarded statment I have read so far here in 2018 and Id say its gonna be tough to knock it off the top spot. Good show man, good show! Thanks!

For sure, and the fact that the D party did everything they could manage in their attempt to shove her down our throats speaks volumes on how corrupt and incompetent the D party is, no?

Obama served for 20 years, making Cardinal's post correct. Facts don't seem to be your friend tonight ...

I didn't call you a liar Nimby. Reading comprehension is a must. And I can back mine up far easier than you can yours in which you'll no doubt read into things where as with mine Trump will be saying the words directly.

Reagan was governor for eight years before becoming President. Obama was a state Senator for eight years and then a US Senator for a further four years before becoming President.

In any case...your point?

You won't get any disagreement from me. Regardless, none of that has to do with Trump being elected entirely because of race, because he was. Take away race, which Trump specifically made a central part of his campaign, and you'd have a different GOP candidate that would have won the primaries.

Wish we had a "King of the Mountain" thread, but I'm afraid people would be constantly knocking others off the top of the mountain.

Exactly what I was thinking. I watched her speech live. Was impressed. Have always been impressed by Oprah.

But not enough for her to be President.

For myself, I'm more interested in how they handle public office than in how cool they look and sound on tv. An ongoing interest in public service is also ideal.

Of course not. While there will be some on the left who would support her, there is no way she would become our nominee, unlike how the majority of the right nominated Trump and then elected him president. You see, unlike y'all, the great majority of Dems don't believe in reality show or talk show hosts for president. We understand that one thing that every president should have is real-world experience in government, and that the president should hire advisers and cabinet members who also have long years of experience in their respective areas of responsibility. Y'all, on the other hand, elected someone who knows nothing about government, about diplomacy between nations, and about why one should hire true professionals in the field instead of rank sycophants.

Me, I'd like to see Biden, or Warren, or Kamala Harris.
While I agree in general, Oprah has always struck me as well informed and eminently sensible.

My gut feeling is she might do pretty well, as long as she surrounds herself with the best people.

She is a very impressive orator, but I am not ready for another celebrity to be in the most important office in the land.

I think the Trump" social experiment" has been such a disaster, that you won't see another celebrity/actor become president for a VERY very long time.

Barack Hussein Obama II (/bəˈrɑːk huːˈseɪn oʊˈbɑːmə/ (About this sound listen);[1] born August 4, 1961) is an American politician who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. The first African American to assume the presidency, he was previously the junior United States Senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008. He served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 until 2004.

8 years President.
3 years as junior United States Senator.
7 years on Illinois State Senate.

8+3+7=18

Is there some obscure position he held before all this that you're counting?
