Here's what happens when the coporations elect the government and not the people!

DSkoiEdWkAA7kQx.jpg:large

Corporations don't elect the government. People do.

Are they buying the votes of the public? Explain that. Like when you go in and vote, is the person you chose based on how much money was spent on lobbying?

You are arguing a strawman. I never argued they bought the votes of the public, but rather that they buy the congressmen we elect.

This is the post you originally replied to:

"The people elect them, corporations just own them through their various lobbyists once they are elected."

And then the people re-elect them. Explain that.

You know as well as I do that once a congressman is in office it's hell getting them out no matter what kind of job they are doing. If you think that corporations and various industry groups spend billions every year in lobbying and get nothing out of it, then you are pretty naive.

Complaining about lobbying money again. Which brings us back to you explaining how lobbying keeps getting people re-elected. The answer is obviously that the voters are stupid, or dont care about lobbying. Or maybe LIKE that lobbyists support THEIR candidate.

Many voters are stupid, one needs to look no further than our embarrassment in chief as a president for that. However, I never argued that lobbying got congressmen reelected, but rather that lobbying buys their votes while in congress, and incumbents always have a big advantage when it comes to being reelected.

If you are doing well in your life and are happy, why waste your energy on envy and spite of those who have more. I don't care how rich Bill Gates is or any other billionaire. God bless them all. I care about my life. The politics of envy and jealousy make me sick. 99% verses 1% makes me sick and I don't care what they have. Live your life and do well and be a good person and don't worry if someone else is richer than you. For Pete's sake!

No one should have to give their hard-earned money to someone else unless they choose to.

And that's the thing, and is why I'm having a hard time taking seriously the complaints about the wealthy. Who puts them there? WE do.

People (in general) need to stop pointing fingers and start looking at themselves. We complain about Congress, then we go and re-elect our Congressperson who is doing the exact same damn thing the other Congresspeople are doing. The disconnect is mind boggling.

Same here. We all say we much prefer the local Italian restaurant to Olive Garden, but when Olive Garden comes to town we all abandon the local guy and go to Olive Garden. Stop it, people, just stop it. Stop complaining if you don't honestly mean it.

Disclaimer: "All" means most, for effect. Of course some do not do this. Unfortunately those people are a small minority.

You mean re-distribution of wealth by the government is a bad thing? Who would have thunk it. I knew Obamacare was a bad thing.

Right, so you know theyre being bought, and then do you vote them back in? Have you ever voted for an incumbent? I know 90% of people do, so they either KNOW their congressmen are bought and dont care, and theyre stupid. So the problem, as always, is the people, not lobbyists.

Shocking Report Shows America's Top 1% Now Richer than Bottom 90% COMBINED

I would suggest reading the article, as it's not long.

Basically, from what I can gather from this article, our tax dollars go to the wealthy in this country. I personally don't think that that should be the case.

What do you think?

I think that libertarians and milquetoast conservatives ignore this issue at their own peril. While the bottom 90% are finding it harder and harder to afford their home, food, and in general to keep up their standard of living, the richest of our society grow even richer. And it's not as if the rich are becoming richer through innovation and hard work. Rather, it's because of this:

fire-economy.jpg

We have a parasitic upper class that is making a living off of their accumulated wealth. This is good neither for those who engage in it nor for society at large. We need to examine why this has happened, what we can do to combat it, and how to make sure that everyone is gaining from a society that is becoming wealthier.

And no, I am still not a Communist.
