What is the MAIN reason Roy Moore lost the election?

What is the MAIN reason Roy Moore lost the election?

Let's be real. If Moore hadn't been outed as a child molester, he would have wiped the floor with Jones.

Yes, many of his stances were detestable even to many Republicans. But Republicans are generally willing to stand by their extremists, even if they have to hold their nose as they do it. Before the child molestation stuff, Moore was solidly in the lead, despite the fact that Alabamians had been familiar with his outrageous stances for many years.

The only reason he lost was because being a child molester is just a tiny bit too far for a sadly small minority of Republicans. But it was a minority that was just big enough that when combined with exceptionally high black voter turnout, it gave Jones the win.

That's it. This means nothing for the GOP or the Dems as a whole. It was just a straight-up simple case of a candidate getting taken out by his own scandals.

That was 80% of his problem & probably the cause for the other 20% which was African-American women (18% of electorate)
went for Jones 97-3, per preliminary exit polls. Black voters punching above their weight tonight & giving Jones a victory!

He lost because populist-Christian extreme Republicans are very good at political suicide:

Todd Akins lost because he said that it was impossible for a woman to get pregnant in cases of "legitimate rape".
Richard Mourdock doubled down in the same election, suggesting rape victims should not be permitted to have an abortion.
Christine McDonald lost because she was too whacky right-wing in a hyper left state (whereas Mike Castle would have won were he nominated).
Sharon Angle lost because she was a unimpressive nobody candidate, opposed by other bitter establishmentarian Republicans who backs others (e.g. Mayor of Reno).
Ken Buck, tea party guy, lost in his Senate bid because he was an obscure gaffe-prone nobody (comments on women and gays).
Roy Moore lost because of a sex scandal.

In the last 7 years the Republicans have lost 6 seats they could have easily won had not the amateurish fringes taken control and nominated ignorant and hubris saturated standard bearers - all of who would never resign even when their candidacy was doomed.

Interestingly, in 2014, the GOP won 10 Senate seats because Karl Rove and the RNC took charge and recruited (and TRAINED) well vetted nominees. When Ken Buck suggested he might run for the Senate in 2014, Rove slapped him down telling him that the party WOULD NOT give him a dime if he took the nomination. Hence, they got Gardner to run and he won.

Roy and Mrs Roy lost because they admitted employing a Jew. With ****-eating grins.

Roy Moore lost because of 40 year old sexual allegations mainly from Leigh Corfman and Beverly Nelson. Women somehow the WaPo was able to find and who were their un-named sources that led them to these women is yet to be known.

Roy Moore claimed he was innocent of the charges. Well if so, I would expect him now to sue his accusers for slander, defamation of character whatever and take every dime they possibly own in damages. If he doesn't then to me it says he wasn't so innocent. We shall see.

It is no secret that some people will lie cheat and steal for easy money. They have no moral compass. And then again there are those who are victims of such things and are trashed those who accused Clinton of sexual abuse as being trailer trash liars by feminists that supported Bill Clinton as an example. There are victims that may have made some poor choices in life and those choices become things that are used to trash them.

What I am saying is true victims and those accused falsely deserve their day in court. It is not enough to just make accusations nor is it enough just to claim you are innocent of said allegations.

Today I read there is actually a tape of someone offering a woman 200k to claim Trump sexually assaulted her. What's that saying? Money talks.

Just curious....

Lotsa reasons, but the main one? I'd say the turnout of black voters.
Women, blacks and latinos will drive American politics now that it's been shown to them that they ought to pay attention and vote. Flippant comments, backhand remarks and 'locker-room talk' are gonna bite a lot of asses.

Moore saying families were better off during Slavery and that every amendment after the tenth should be abolished.

Going forward, Bannon and his 'Nullification Project' are on full display. Ask any GOP officeholder about nullification and the Civil Rights Act, like nullifier Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa ...

Is he a Jew, or are they pretending he's a Jew?

Their voters wouldn't like it if he was, and the fact they were so obvious about it might have put some people off too.

I think it was Roy Moore himself. I'm sure some folks will say that WaPo article on the teenage girls Roy Moore allegedly dated was his undoing but truth is Roy Moore's hardline, non-inclusive ideology coupled with his political record hurt him. If he was truly electable this time around, his own party wouldn't have turned on him and one of his would-be Senate colleagues wouldn't have suggested the idea of a write-in candidate.

Roy Moore hurt Roy Moore.

One would think if he learned his opponent in an election was a child molester that he wouldn't even have to put up one campaign sign.

But the times have changed. This child molester barely lost. Unbelievable. Those bible thumpers show that this religious show was nothing but a façade.

Without the 17th amendment, we'd have Sen. moore today, and 70 other GOP senators. Thank you Progress---ive Era one century ago, TR and WJB.

When you look at the completely bastardized GOP state and federal maps of 2017, like AL and VA for starters, DEMs won statewide in AL and still lost 6 of 7 CDs; DEMs win by 10% in VA and still lose the HoD ...

I really don't like the word "Jew" the way it's used; "Jewish" is much better.

Not the allegations themselves, his incriminating responses to the allegations.

Money talks. S*** walks. The one walking here is 45. He won't get far.

Me neither, that was the way she used it in the statement. Their supporters laughed at the smirk when she said it.

Roy Moore himself plus the allegations against him.

So you rabid anti-Trumpers hope for.....

Not me. Trump is an entertaining, though dangerous idiot. Pence would be slightly, only very slightly, worse.

I'll take humor with the gallows over the gallows alone, thanks.

Concur.

He is a bigot and a pedophile, while the Republican base was fine with that, the few remaining moderates in the party and everyone else wasn't. Thus he narrowly lost.

In my opinion the Alabama GOP base weren't "fine" with Moore being a bigot and a pedophile. Most who voted for Moore simply chose not to believe Moore's accusers.
