The family unit comes back if you press the red button, people are no longer disconnected and lost in their own little world called social media etc. People talk face 2 face again and so on. Divorce rates fall to <30%, no more mass-diabetes and other health problems.

People become healthy again, no more fast food, no more big pharma, no more mass corruption in politics, violent crime will crash steadily after the war.

Scenario: You are the POTUS. You are being offered to press the big red button which will completely change our lives forever. The nuclear launch code(s). You press this button, 10+ nukes shoot into some other country who strikes back (it's arbitrary as to which). This will start WW3, 3,000,000,000 people will die. The war will be very brief. It will harm the environment, cause cancer rates to triple and other nasty things.

But it will also bring about good change: people talk face 2 face again, people are more kind to one another, we cooperate; not dominate. More people live off the land, more people help their fellow man. The sickness our society is in currently, with the mass shootings, the sexualization of little kids etc. will all go down as a thing of the past.

In this scenario, the NWO is no conspiracy theory. It's real. You know it is. There is indeed a small group of elites looking to control and enslave the population, they commit false flags and so forth.

If you press the red button, the NWO will be destroyed and our world will finally see some peace for a change!

Perhaps another 9/11 (which you find out was indeed a false flag) won't happen again. More transparency in our political and justice system.

After WW3, people become more compassionate to their fellow man. People unite for a change. I don't care what side of politics you are on, we do not live in a just world as it currently stands.

If you press that red button, we go back to the days when kids could play outside unattended til dark, to the days when you left your doors unlocked, where you left the keys in your ignition. The days when people were people and people valued people over money and gadgets.

Back to the days of having a pension and a social safety net, to when you could work hard with a HSD and make a decent living for yourself. A revival of the American Dream.

No more mass shootings, no more sexualizing kids and it being socially accepted, no more disconnection between individual and community.

People talk face 2 face, no more social anxiety en-masse, no reality TV and its BS.

Privacy will return, no more being spied on. No more being filmed everywhere you go.

No more going bankrupt from medical bills, no more being demonized for the color of your skin, no more division, no more race hatred.

Democrats and Republicans end up not being as polarized and come up with a bipartisan bill on: Universal healthcare, free education and a UBI.

No longer do parents veg out and fall asleep at the TV as their kids are isolated in their own small rooms, with little family time. It all goes away with the push of that button. It all *CHANGES*. No more frozen dinners for dinner.

Pressing this red button WILL take a toll on the environment, it will make millions upon millions of people sick, it may or may not cause mass deformities. It will cause untold damage to various (sometimes iconic) cities. It will knock power out for most of the country for months on end, years even. Many may starve to death in addition to 3B dead, many will freeze to death looking to get to warm shelter...

Food shortages, gas/oil shortages and more will likely occur.

If you do not press the button, we continue on our path. The NWO (which is real in our made up scenario) MAY take over and enslave mankind, the family unit and community falls further and further. We experience more and more mass shootings, we just continue on what some might call a downward spiral. More false flags, more stripping of our liberties, more surveillance, more unnecessary incarcerations, more government intrusion, more violence, more division, more tensions.

But no high cancer rates, no mass food shortages, a very stable nation.

The environment is doing very well! Pollution falls by 38.5% if you DO NOT press the red button.

No 3,000,000,000 dead.

This is a one shot deal.

You do not come back from this.

Ask yourself.

Does the ends justify the means?

Do you agree to press that red button and cause WW3?

Or do you play it safe and aid in the destruction of mankind?

Yes for pressing that red button, No for not pressing that red button.

How do you vote PD?

I'm not about to support hitting the red button and killing 3bil people just so we can revert to the 1930's

We live in the best era of human history. Period. Not a chance that should change.

The only possibly nuclear flash points right now are USA and NoKo, and possibly Iran and Israel down the road, and that is a distant maybe, and possibly India and Pakistan.

Assuming you're even serious, you have a romanticized and unrealistic view of post nukewar society I'd say.

If you press that red button, we go back to the days when kids could play outside unattended til dark, to the days when you left your doors unlocked, where you left the keys in your ignition. The days when people were people and people valued people over money and gadgets.

1. Kill three billion people? No.

2. Risk nuclear winter, breakdown of government...and the lawlessness that will ensue, electro-magnetic pulse. No...your kids WON'T be playing outside. At all. You WON'T be leaving your doors unlocked. Your car WON'T work anymore. You WON'T value people because those people will be trying to kill you and take whatever you have.

No, because your cute is worse than the disease.

Assuming you're even serious, you have a romanticized and unrealistic view of post nukewar society I'd say.

This^^...I'm sincerely hoping there's some kind of punch-line here, some clever logical jiu-jitsu that will show this is some kind of analogy for something else.

Who the hell would answer "yes" to this poll?

I saw nothing addressing the "long-term" realities of nuclear fallout and environmental damage (which would affect all health on the planet, including the most basic foundation of the food chain, plants).

Even the nuclear material release of the Fukushima nuclear plant continues to circulate and has not been contained. Nor do we yet know the short or long-term results of it. If the oceans crash...so does mankind.

But seeing the shorter term ones described...yeah. No.

Our problems won't be solved by nuclear war. Humans like conflict. That's why forums like this exist. We'd start nitpicking even if we lived in a Utopia.

This just shows the level of naivety of you lefties. You automatically assume that we can just go on with our merry lives and a nuclear WWII will never happen. That is the very same mentality the world used when Hitler was around and he wasn't very far off at taking over the entire world. Your poll is stupid.

There remains a 30 mile exclusion zone around Chernobyl since the reactor meltdown and explosion in 1986. When I visited the damaged Chernobyl facility (within 800 meters) a number of years ago, the radiation dosage (mSv/h) in one hour equaled the dosage one normally receives in one year. Since then, Ukraine and an international consortium has placed a sarcophagus cover (the Novarka/New Arch) over the damaged reactor section (#4) which should remain viable for over a century. The Novarka will contain the highest levels of radiation, but the surrounding environment still remains radioactive to varying degrees. A few miles from the nuclear facility is the deserted town of Pripyat which is where all the Chernobyl workers and their families lived. A few days after the explosion, Soviet authorities ordered that everyone evacuate. They had one hour to board the buses. Today, 31 years later, everything remains pretty much exactly as it was when the people fled. The entire town has been overtaken by plant life.

Yeah I know. Saw an interesting documentary on this.

I think you'll find a few "lefties," me included, that have pointed out how insane the OP is.

Yes, I did notice that. I confess it is easy to paint everyone with a broad brush. However, I believe his post was really all about Trump and North Korea and that we should never do anything that would start a nuclear confrontation. We have let Kim progress way too far as it is. The longer we wait the worse things will be when the **** hits the fan. Engaging him ASAP may be the far better alternative than engaging him in the future when he has more nuclear bombs and more ICBM's to carry them. In other words, a nuclear war in 2017 may be a much better alternative than a nuclear war in 2025. As far as South Korea goes, Kim would love to annex the South much the same as Russia annexed Crimea and the reality may be that several million people dying in Seoul tomorrow may be a far more palatable outcome than Kim annexing the entire country and having them under his rule. I don't think the lefties who posted in this thread really went down that road as I just did. The world left Hitler alone far too long. If the world had engaged him much sooner millions of people would not have died that did by ignoring or being afraid of him.

Your 3 billion fatalities will be made up mostly with people who have nothing to do with the current problems that you mention. Why take them out so you can have healthcare. Why not just adopt the Saskatchewan model of healthcare and skip the bombs. If the US has all these problems, fix them.
After WW3, you won't have worry about locking doors because you'll be dead. You won't have to worry about your kids because they'll be dead. You won't have to worry about the environment because...well, you get the picture.

This is a poor attempt at a deontological vs utilitarian moral conundrum ala the 5 people tied to the train track question. In this case however you are mixing in a LOT of assumptions about the cause of the decline of traditional family structures, issues leading to identity crisises in many cultures, and the root of violent crime in modern society. These are largely value judgements and make a poor framework for this kind of ethical question.

Yeah, we're all guilty of that sometimes.

As it happens I mostly agree. Strategically, we have been playing the grand game very poorly since the 1960s, with the consequence that we now confront Russia and China as they attain increasing global prominence, all while we grow weaker. We are still stronger than both of them combined, but that will eventually change, barring some change of current trajectories. Simple logic tells me it's time to confront our enemies NOW, and not wait while we get weaker and they get stronger.

On the other hand, confrontation does not have to entail nuclear war, and if we go there, it's unlikely anything good is going to come from it.

What a stupid ****ing poll.

Not every member of this board is what you might call a bright light bulb, but none are, I don't think, dim enough to vote "Yes".

I would like to see Moderators suppress ostentatiously stupid **** like this. It might not be a bad idea to suspend the threadstarter too, and if he ****s up this grossly again, ban him.

I like to think that it is the US who is actually stalling because we are developing new technologies that will work in defeating North Korea in a type of Blitzkrieg type of thing where it will be over before they knew what hit them. Might be wishful thinking, might not.
