Republicans (rightfully) are considering kicking Roy Moore out of the Senate, should he win.
Will Democrats abandon Al Franken, over his actions? Or will they seek to minimize, excuse, or push off to a paper-tiger "process" while allowing him to continue to serve in the Senate?
I have no idea what they will do. When Anthony Weiner tweeted lewd pictures of his crotch, to a college student May 2011, he claimed his account was hacked. June 1 he did several interviews on TV and denied doing anything wrong. But 5 days later his story fell apart as more inappropriate pictures sent by Weiner to another woman became public.
Then Weiner confesses in a news conference that he had engaged in inappropriate contact with six women over the course of three years through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and occasionally over the phone. He said because he had never met or had a physical relationship with any of the women he did nothing wrong and that he wasn't going to resign.
After that interview Pelosi called for a House ethics investigation into whether he broke the rules. I found that quite laughable that she would need the ethics committee to confirm such a thing but there you go.
A few days later an X-rated photo of Weiner appeared on the web that Weiner had sexted.
A couple days later Weiner acknowledges he had exchanged online messages with a 17-year-old girl in Delaware. At that point 9 House Democrats and two Democratic senators call for Weiner to resign. You see it had to reach to that level before a handful of Democrats in the House and 2 Democrat senators to call for Weiner's resignation..
Weiner requested a leave of absence from the House and was approved by unanimous consent.
In the meantime there was the porn star that Weiner was in contact with that gave a press conference telling she and Weiner have been in contact and that he asked her to lie about everything. It had to get to that point before Pelosi and Democrats decided to strip Weiner of all his committee chairs to encourage him to resign and by June 16th he did resign.
But less than two years later Weiner entered the NYC mayor race. And you know what is sad? He had a good amount of support. And he didn't give up his sexting ways. Weiner, pleaded guilty to one charge of transferring obscene material to a minor he knew to be 15 years old May 2017 and is currently serving 21 month sentence in prison.
The point I am trying to make is by looking at the Weiner case when he was a sitting representative for NY how much crap had to come out publicly before the Democrats would even begin to call for him to resign. What Franken did which was very disgusting, it happened years before he ran for a Senate seat in MN. If Franken had acted in such a manner while being a sitting senator then yes I would see an overwhelming majority of Congress critters calling for his resignation. The people of MN knew what a crude SOB Franken was when they voted for him. They didn't care.
