Should Freed UCLA Basketball Players Thank Trump?

Should The Freed UCLA Basketball Players Thank Trump?

Voters didn't want someone politically correct and they didn't want someone who was presidential and they didn't want someone who was establishment. That's what you guys don't understand.

Oh we get it. But this isn't a prom king we're electing here. This isn't like sticking it to the popular kids in school by putting some total dork on the prom court. This is the President of the United States of America. He has access to Nuclear weapons that can incinerate 15 million people with the push of a button. Understanding how to be politcally correct isn't a ****ing suggestion when you're president. It's a bare minimum qualification for the job.

I'm not questioning the validity of THESE charges. I'm saying that if this is viewed as a bargaining chip it may motivate future arrests that are not valid.

Well, China really hasn't been known to be like that. It was the player's stupidity that caused themselves to possibly be used as a bargaining chip or future bargaining chip for others.

Like I said, voters decided.

Furthermore. You don't expect someone to thank you for doing your job. It's your ****ing job. That's what you're hired and paid to do regardless of whether you donate your salary. If someone thanks you for doing your job then that is awfully nice of them, but if you're getting mad at people who don't you're a ****ing d-bag.

What exactly is Trump trying to say here? Would he have left these boys to rot in a Chinese prison if he'd thought they weren't going to say thanks and start voting for him? This is like a guy holding a door open for a pretty girl, and then demanding she go out on a date with him because he made a token gesture that any other guy would have happily done for free.

Bailing people out of holes they created for themselves is not his ****ing job. Staying out of holes in foreign countries is your obligation. Millions of citizens do that every year.

President's have not intervened in foreign laws affecting US citizens many times.

Which to me is the problem here. What did we give up? 5 terrorists to be named later?

Actually, I do get it. They wanted an asshole and they got one. My tolerance for assholes is quite low, so I'm not happy about it, but I accept their bad taste as a fact of life.

I really can't believe you even said that. Where's the shakes head emojie?

That we'd have such an emotionally stunted and needy little bitch as POTUS who would whine publicly about not being thanked is the real issue.

I really can believe you don't understand that simple fact.

Hell yeah they should thank him, and if they don't Trump should invite China to request that they be extradited.

However, Trump is a guy who just never seems to get anything right in my book, and this is no exception:

If it had been me I would have told the Chinese that they could keep the little shoplifting assholes, and to go ahead and throw the book at them.

Now that they have thanked Trump we can move on to should they be expelled...currently "Suspended Indefinitely". I was talking to a 40ish year old black woman college ball fan at a bar near Tacoma Dome yesterday about this, she who said "I have been poor all my life" and her take is to lower the hammer..... kids are not taught anymore she said , they have to learn that there are consequences...let there be consequences.

Three UCLA basketball players held in China suspended indefinitely, offer apologies - LA Times

Kids have no manners these days. They are 'entitled'. if they were in North Korea they would be begging for help.

Why? What possible rational reason would there be for them to have done that?

Oh, idk. Being grateful not to be in a Chinese prison? Good thing they weren't in North Korea.

Since Trump has no manners, they can always say that they're emulating the president.

It's his job to get entitled little assholes out of trouble? Where is that in the job description?

I thank someone who opens a door for me, but it would be rude of that person to demand that I do so.

Haha, reminds me of when I hold the door for someone and they just breeze by without saying thank you, I say 'your welcome!' It's rude NOT to say thank you.

Well, doing so would be the polite thing to do. Unfortunately, being polite to people with whom you or your social group might have an ideological (especially political ideology) disagreement can be seen as "support" for that ideology and, if we know anything today, it's that ideological purity must be maintained no matter what the cost.

Yes the polite & responsible action is thank all involved. For those that were involved, for one to wonder ( clearly wanted to be thanked) publicly if they will receive thanks is boorish at the least.
Ideological purity- really?

Says who? You?

He did it because he was there at the time.

Oh, that's even better. So you're saying that if he didn't just happen to be in that general part of the world at the time it all happened he wouldn't have done it at all, and these kids would be rotting in prison for the next decade?

I did that for three young women in Seattle last night, they opened the other door and went through it instead, then one said Thank You....strange times.

And?? Voters voted for obama into office twice that didn’t stop cons like you from complaining.

I guess I missed the part where the OP asked about Trump's Tweet.

I answered the question in the OP, period.

Good points and let us add that they might not get out of NK alive, or without a fatal illness- recall the unfortunate Otto Warmbier.

They better watch their step in Singapore too- there you get caned:

U.S. Student Tells of Pain Of His Caning In Singapore (1994)

(from link)
The 19-year-old American who was caned in Singapore for vandalism said today that the bleeding it caused was "like a bloody nose."

The teen-ager, Michael P. Fay, said in an interview that the four strokes with a rattan cane on May 5 had left three dark-brown scars on his right buttock and four lines each about half-an-inch wide on his left buttock.

In his first description of the caning, Mr. Fay said that prison officials told him he shouted, "I'm dying," when the first stroke was delivered.

And btw POTUS won't get you off in Singapore. Bill Clinton tried to obtain clemency, but only got the caning part of the sentence reduced from six strokes to four. Clinton handled the stuation as badly as Trump handled the recent case. If it had been me I would have told the Singaporese to make sure they laid it on heavy.

True. It's also rude to demand a thank you.
