'Transracial' man born white feels like he is Filipino | WTSP.com

I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand there's a long history of racism trying to find a trap door to science with all the theories about race not being more than skin deep. Since race is really a superficial, meaningless categories with which we group each other, why can't someone identify with a particular group of people?

On the other hand, people who have white privilege could easily exploit pretending to be something they are not, such as diversity programs. Can a white person truly be a person of color without experiencing the systemic racism America is fraught with? That's the question.

There is no such thing as white privilege, so don't worry about your confliction.

If trans gender is a thing, than trans racial is just as much of a thing too.... there is little to no difference.

I vote no, personally. Though these people technically exist.... so it's technically a "thing". But have they actually successfully trans-raced? No...same with a trans-gendered person.

Would it be a nice thing to play along, because it makes someone feel better? maybe, I don't mind...i'll think your weird though

No you can't be Filipino without being ethnically from the Philippines.

What if you you were born in the Philippines, and adopted by a filipino family... raised in a filipino household.... though genetic ancestry was white?

No. If you're white, you're white. If you're black, you're black.

That's it.

You are a White Filipino. Just like how there are White Africans. A Black child adopted by a White family is still Black.

Good Lord no. With all the confusion over gender, sex and all kinds of other stuff, this is the last thing we need. Next thing you know people we be claiming to be trans-species.

I think the problem is here then.... filipino isn't a race... Mongoloid is a race... and I guess there is a sub-race of southeast asians ...I think Austronesian is the name actually

Yea, that's already happened

Hmm. I don't know. I do know there are people who like to hang around blacks and dress like them, who aren't themselves black. There are also non-Indian, or what the tribes call "wannabees" that like to hang around with native Americans. So, maybe trans-race is just a more politically correct new phrase for race "wannabees."

Mom, this isn't a phase! I'm a Klingon!

I am trans-height.

I am 6'2" but I feel 5'3".

The guy... ja du... his argument is stupid. He likes the food and music. ???

Great.

I was Mexican yesterday but today I am feeling like I am Chinese.

The idea that you feel a different race is idiotic.

No less stupid than a man cramming his fat rolls into a bra and claiming he’s a woman.

Feeling like a woman makes more sense though... although it does denote some emotional and/or psychological issues. Feeling like a different race is just stupid.

I'm gonna say no. No such thing. IMO it's about appreciating a culture, at a very very deep level, and wishing you could be completely immersed in it. And if there are "outwardly physical" differences in that person, then they may feel they are not completely accepted into that culture. That they have to justify their being part of that culture. (not saying it makes sense necessarily).

Of course people dont like rejection. If you are born a race or ethnicity, no one can 'kick you out' or reject you. Some people have a deep need to be accepted. Claiming it's some mis-wiring of the brain isnt legit IMO.

I was born in NJ, I seemed to always know I didnt belong in NJ, that I belonged out west, that it was a life and a lifestyle that would suit me, it was where *I belonged.* I still believe it. I was right, even as a small child. But by no means do I believe I am "transcoastal."

Though,as you implied, filipino is't a race....

it's more like trans-cultural... he'd like to immerse himself and become a part of a different culture... which I see no problem with...
