'Transracial' man born white feels like he is Filipino | WTSP.com

I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand there's a long history of racism trying to find a trap door to science with all the theories about race not being more than skin deep. Since race is really a superficial, meaningless categories with which we group each other, why can't someone identify with a particular group of people?

On the other hand, people who have white privilege could easily exploit pretending to be something they are not, such as diversity programs. Can a white person truly be a person of color without experiencing the systemic racism America is fraught with? That's the question.

I believe that the technical description of "Trans-pretty much anything" is "a couple of bricks shy of a full load".

But he feels like s Philippino stuck in a White body!

does he want to be racially Austronesian? And immerse himself in Filipino culture?

Or does he just want to become a part of and participate in filipino culture?

ones a little more weird than the other.

Feeling like a woman makes more sense though... although it does denote some emotional and/or psychological issues. Feeling like a different race is just stupid.

I think we should let people feel any way tjey like, if they don't try to make it other people problem.

Crap, I can't even wear an ethnic Halloween costume without being accused of cultural appropriation. And now some white nut job wants to be identified as Filipino; that's an insult to Filipinos everywhere. News flash; you are what you are, in every sense; deal with it.

He wants to be taken seriously. Treating him like a nut isn't fair. It is discrimination.

Good Lord no. With all the confusion over gender, sex and all kinds of other stuff, this is the last thing we need. Next thing you know people we be claiming to be trans-species.

Harry Reid's an ass, so it's already happened.

Though,as you implied, filipino is't a race....

it's more like trans-cultural... he'd like to immerse himself and become a part of a different culture... which I see no problem with...

Agreed. I see no problem thinking you are whatever... just doesn't mean it is factually true.

Not just a Filipino...a 'female' Filipino. But that parts 'logical'.

Agreed... People are free to feel however they want for all I care.

I'm trans-wealthy. I was born poor, I am poor, but I identify as wealthy and expect to be treated as such.

We raised entire generations of self deluded individuals who now think mental problems are nothing but trans-whatever. It has become so stupid I no longer laugh about it.

Disagree. Thinking you are a race you are not makes that person a nut.

Gender is meaningful in the brain.

Race is not.

What do you mean by treating him like a nut?.... I treat everyone the same, or at least I try to. Just because I find it weird, doesn't mean I would treat him poorly.

Ooooh. Time to pull up a chair and watch all the armchair sociology going on here.

If you can change your gender based on how you present or feel I don't see why you can't change your race for the same reasons.

Exactly.And he's not a Kenyan.

Well I am biracial and I am not a Kenyan either. I will say however you are judged by how you look in the US. I look black and Puerto Rican, Dominican and even Asian (Arab) depending on where I am. Hell in Egypt if I don't say anything they think I am Nubian.

So you are what you look like period. Obama is a black guy.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.
