Generic question, not pertaining to any one individual or example.

If one person, or multiple persons, makes accusations of sexual molestation... just accusations at this point... how should we act?

1) Automatically act as if it's true. (Bear in mind this IS "guilty until proven innocent")

2) Proceed with caution... investigate. But still treat as if true.

3) Proceed with caution... investigate. Don't jump to conclusions, don't fire/ostracize. (Yet.)

4) Be skeptical.

5) Be a partisan hack and excuse those on our side, condemn those on the other side.

Then there's people who will say one thing, the right thing, but act opposite. But that's another thread.

I answered be skeptical, but really only if it’s one or several of these blast from the past accusations. Reporting sexual assault, harassment or whatever is merely a 911 call away. Accusing people of years ago misdeeds is ridiculous. (Unless one was a child. But I’d be skeptical ven then at this particular time.)

I selected the closest answer provided:

Proceed with caution... investigate. Don't jump to conclusions, don't fire/ostracize.

NEVER proceed as if the allegation is true, as that tends to prejudice the investigation.

Always proceed as a neutral fact-finding investigator. (Innocent until PROVEN guilty.)

Let the facts prove the case.

Now, a caveat. IMO employers may either suspend someone (with or without pay), or temporarily transfer one of the parties to a different dept. pending the outcome of the investigation simply to prevent any further issues from arising during the investigation.

Then there is condemning going on

First it was Bill Cosby, then Johnny Depp, then Steven Seagull, then The House of Cards guy, then a former US President.

This is a Feminist-fueled, anti-male inspired, WITCH HUNT. Nothing more nothing less.

Every time we turn around, another mass shooting. Another sex scandal. When does it end? When do the lies cease? We hear all the accusations but none of the evidence.

If someone said NerosGold has dead puppies in his basement, you would all believe it. I know you would.

The US educational system has lowered its standards to dangerously low levels, the US populous therefore are becoming more superstitious, more ignorant as time marches on. No more critical thinking skills. I've seen some videos on YT of people in their early 20's, just making the most ignorant conclusions after seeing less than minimal evidence for that thinking.

No more rational thought, no more critical thinking. Just sound bites and emotions/feelings now I suppose. Just take what people say and believe it without probable cause.

The JFK files.. why does no one care? Will anyone care when the 9/11 files are dropped in 2070 or 2080?

I think the sex accusation trend now has more to do with US than any outside source tbh. You will fall for anything. Anything.

"There is no right or wrong answer"

"Just tell us, we're your friend, we'll help you out"

"The American Dream didn't die in 2001"

"9/11 was perpetuated by turrrrists"

"Just work hard, you'll be like us one day"

"The US frees people and instills democracy" (all the while torturing people, disappearing folks off to black sites, conducting false flags. Spying on its citizens, stepping on what rights they used to have.

What. Are you surprised that every time a mass shooting happens now; these effing politicians call for more surveillance, more "gun control" etc. You can't go ANYWHERE without being recorded. Either by businesses, by the city/state or by other people with their smart phones. And If you say a god damned thing about it, you're a nut job. Group think is rampant in America in 2017.

****ing A.

Mass shootings, these BS sexual harassment scandals and so on will continue to occur. It's going to consume everyone like a certain internet poster claimed one day, and I think that day is getting close, I believe it. It will indeed consume everyone, a civil war OR a nuclear war will follow, and then sanity will (hopefully) return.

3,000,000,000 dead. WW3. Will finally put these BS scandals into perspective. You 'felt' he 'harassed' you because he whistled at you or something. Why isn't anyone complaining about being harassed with all this surveillance now?

Maybe women and these scandals is just a misguided reaction to the NSA and FED GOV spying on us... food for thought.

What does this have to do with these accusations? Because. These accusations are coming out to cause chaos, to cause disorder among the populous who are already addicted to the tele, already addicted to entertainment (bread and circuses) as it is. Pepper us with these sex scandals and maybe we won't all go

"Hey.. why is the NSA spying on us?"

"Why do we get groped when we want to travel?"

"Why is our constitutional rights being stepped on day after day, night after night?"

Without these scandals to distract us, maybe, just maybe, there'd be more questioning in regards to the state of the union as of now.

There is no more innocent until proven guilty OP. As there are no more rights which Americans now possess (beyond the right to shut up about conspiracies and the right to gobble up what they say). IUPG was a right we used to enjoy. Not anymore. Witch-hunts galore. WorseThanSalem.

Proceed with caution, investigate, but treat as true, at least when dealing with the person saying they were abused. I'll tell ya why...

The vast majority of reports have clear evidence that they are true. Only 1% are deemed likely to be false. There's another 10% in there with conflicting or incomplete evidence. But the vast majority are true. Reporting sexual abuse is a very painful and potentially risky thing for most people. Those who would take those risks over a false report are few and far between (and it's worth noting also that the rate of false reporting for sexual offenses is exactly the same as false reporting rates for most other crimes, and also that false reporting is a crime in itself that can carry a fairly heavy prison sentence).

Additionally, in the very likely event the report is based on truth, the victim should be getting help and support. Waiting longer worsens their outcome.

So, for the accused, investigate. For the victim, react now, and do so with the assumption that it is true, and they need support.

number 3

ALL ACCUSATIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, but none should be considered factual. Listen and proceed with caution. Anything else is counterproductive and dangerous. Assuming guilt is bad and assuming its made up is also bad. Its exactly one of the reason people have trouble coming forward.

Why is it ridiculous? So if a girl was raped years ago, of a guy was molested years ago but was to afraid to tell or thought they wouldn't be believed if she finally gets the courage to do so or has solid evidence that makes it ridiculous?? If your answer is yes you are part of the problem.

Call the accusers lying whores and ignore all evidence. Prosecute the accusers to the fullest extent of the law. Make every possible excuse imaginable no matter how ridiculous. Give the accused the benefit of every doubt no matter how small.

My answer is that it is neigh onto impossible to disprove these long-ago accusations. I don’t know where I was September 24, 2002. You? Riding in an elevator playing inappropriate touchy-feely with a 15-year old minor perhaps? That’s what HE claims. And these kinds of accusations don’t HAVE to be proven to ruin lives. Reputations ruined. Families destroyed.

Of course there are exceptions. Young children and priests come to mind. That kind of thing.

But, sorry, if a 45-year-old woman comes forward about a Hollywood insider assaulting her at age thirty? I think it’s ridiculous. It’s called personal responsibility. It’s called too late.

We like to believe there is justice for every single wrong thing that happens to us. There isn’t. If that opinion makes me part of “the problem? I’m fine with it.

I answered with 3. This thing is like the last Red Scare of the 50s and not everyone is a commie. Me thinks that sooner or later it's going to get around to creepy women too and what will be the reaction then?

Thats some mighty fine dancing there but regardless yes if that's the opinion you hold YOU are part of the problem and you are an enabler.
"personal responsibility" "too late" ??? that has nothign to do with it. Wow, SMH thats pathetic and sick. To each their own.

A combination of these two options. Accusations don't mean anything without proof. So yes we should "Proceed with caution... investigate. Don't jump to conclusions, don't fire/ostracize". Also when it comes to putting someone in power or keeping someone out of power it isn't that hard to find a bunch of people to lie.We are a country of over 300 million people of different creeds, religions and backgrounds.Sp rhe idea that you can't find 30 plus people to lie is absolutely absurd. I also look at the timing of when those accusations come out. Like if those accusations come out right before an election I am highly skeptical. If those accusations came out now over something that allegedly happened 20,30 or 40 plus years ago I am skeptical.
