Pretty simple question. You would or you wouldn't. I'm asking the question in the context that Roy Moore "dated" teenagers. The question is not about weasel ways to avoid the question. No, "If he was a favorite uncle" or "If he was our pastor" or "If he was a dear family friend helping us during a family crisis." None of that.

Roy Moore used to hang out in malls and at high school football games apparently to connect with teenage girls. He "dated" teenage girls when he was 32.

Would you permit your daughter to hangout with a 32 year old man like Roy Moore?

WARNING: This thread is not about Hillary or Bill or Obama. Don't even attempt to derail the thread with "Yeah but Hillary, Bill, Obama..." If you want to talk about Hillary, Bill or Obama start your own thread.

No.

There is no 32-year-old who wants to hang out with 16-year-olds for any reason that is even remotely positive.

At absolute best, they are so woefully immature or messed up that they can't get anyone their own age to hang out with them. At best. And even then, they're a terrible example to a teenager. Most people like that I've met are way into drugs.

But the more likely scenario is that they're looking for naive targets.

So, no.

Moore said in his interview with Hannity that he wouldn't let a 16 year old daughter of his date a 32 year old man. That's about as "mens rea" as it gets.

How old is this said teenager, because I happen to know that sometimes people around here claim that 18 year olds are teenagers.....

Oh HELL no!

But "let" is the operative word here. As the mom of five teenagers (at the same time), I can tell you that unless you keep them locked in a cage, most parents of teenagers have no clue what their kids are doing, and hope that everything they taught them before they "knew everything" is tucked somewhere in the back of their minds. We raise them, try to impart our values on them, then pray.

But your question was about parents, not the girls themselves. Maybe he was rich, powerful, and had a flashy car. It’s the parents that need to teach the girls to not be attracted to wealth and power and explain to them that the only currency they have to trade at a young age is sexual, and there are plenty of men who will oblige a willing albeit, precocious teenager, and to understand the risk.

Back to Moore. Where is the hard proof? He has rights, too.

And your warning notwithstanding, Bill Clinton was a serial sex offender and was protected by democrats and the MSM because he was “one of theirs. You cannot make an example out of the rich and powerful, and ignore the poster children of a dual standard of Justice. This is not your usual thread crap. This is relevant by virtue of abuse of power and privilege.

I'd pick other, depending on the situation (age of consent/age difference), although I would be cautious and very inquisitive.

Not really a parent's choice depending on current State age of consent laws though.

Most State laws place the age of consent at 16, a few are 17, and about 10-11 are 18.

Now while Victorian Era morality is making a comeback as people live longer and parent's want their children's childhood to last longer (there are even pushes to make the age of adulthood 21)...the reality is that teens are going to make choices about drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. whether you like it or not.

I understand the desire to protect them...but I'd like to suggest taking a look back at your own childhood's before making a blanket judgement about all teens (your own or other people's). My teen years were during the 60's and 70's, things were a bit more open during the Flower Power/ Vietnam War period.

Having said that, I'd like to point out that kids are more aware these days of age differences, and self-regulate by tending to avoid older people on their own. Teaching them to make the right choices is better than trying to criminalize behavior that has been perfectly natural and in accordance with human sexuality for 99% of human existence.

Just saying. :coffeepap:

My bff in HS dated a guy who was 26 at the time...she was 16 and her mother allowed it, which I never understood...they ended up getting married but it didn't last long...he was a real pervert from the git go...the things he did, he would have been arrested for now and I'm not talkin' just about dating my bff...

Thankfully my daughter has extreme common sense and has an uncanny ability to sense something "off" in people... that said once she is 18 (a teenager) she can do whatever she wants to do... I would still try to talk to her about it and thankfully we have a very communicative relationship.

This is not abot Moore.
Read the OP
If it was it would have had, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 as ages. Maybe 29 and 36, Moore to follow as Moore becomes available.
But as the old saying goes and is applicable to Moore" he does likem young".

1. They ended up getting married. The divorce is secondary as it occurs in all age groups for all sorts of reasons, often as briefly after marriage as your example.

2. You are entitled to an opinion, but as a self-declared "bff" who has your Bf's "back," one would expect you to side with her story about "perversions;" albeit ones which didn't seem to be an issue until "it didn't last long" (I guess an eventual divorce).

Start your own thread. I'm serious.

Hate to break this to ya, but advice does not stop at age 18- that advice is not always welcome.

I was 16 at the time...I surely didn't know any better, neither did she, and evidently neither did her mother...this was back in 1969...a different era where the term pedaphile was unheard of...

A term you are misusing even now. Check the definition.

Meanwhile, I was a teen back then too, and I seem to recall being cautioned about "perverts" back then. Most of us didn't hang out with "Old people" either, unless they were within a few years difference.

Nothing much in common. There still isn't these days.

So far so good for us... but I hear you and appreciate the advice.

I don't have any children, but I would certainly not want my (hypothetical) children hanging out with strange adults. I would be very concerned about such a thing.

I was thinking about saying "Probably, depends on circumstances", but the minute I thought "what if it is a priest" I quickly chose hell no. LOL.

It annoys the crap out of me when people proclaim something to the effect of, "I know where my teen is and what they're doing 24/7."

No, you don't. You are in serious denial.
