sure, each party has its internal divisions. however, on election day, there are only two choices, and the vast majority just vote for whoever their perceived ingroup puts up.

For me, I'm in GOP districts, which has always caused me to vote GOP in the primary. I vote for the Sane GOPs, who I happen to know along with their staff, who've helped me greatly in the past with Veteran's issues, as have previous DEMs.

Think of Illinois in terms of Lincoln, not Capone or several DEM and GOP governors who've gone to jail; Dirksen, yet unfortunately the bad sides of the Daleys. Percy, who lit Nixon up, even Kirk, who voted for Toomey/Manchin, my fave Gov. Ogilvie from the past; Gov. Edgar; we have had and still do have great GOPs;

You already know I strongly believe in the 2-Party system; Bernie was great in Puerto Rico today; as long we have a fail safe on an unclear, nuclear trump, you'll make it to retirement as I have;

Enjoy the Journey. Appalachian Mountain Club say the 'The Journey is the Destination'. I miss Brown County in your state. We used to go to Bean Blossom with Bill Monroe for at least a decade starting in the '70s ...

i believe that the future historians will point to the two party system as one of the fundamental flaws that sank our republic.

as for Brown County, yeah, i miss it, too. haven't been there in years. i visit Turkey Run and the Dunes up north as often as i can, though, which isn't often enough.

I like the dunes in Southern Michigan better; less people. I often go to Terra Houte when visiting my downstate Brother. Everything much lower, prices and wages. Indiana DEMs have several opportunities to shine next year.

The 12-Party system in the Knesset is a disaster. European coalitions between parties routinely fall apart, necessitating spur of the moment elections. No thanks to that.

I'd rather the Elite wing and the Bannon wing of the GOP destroy each other in National Politics. If Gillespie wins in VA, it will be because of dirty trump/Nixon politics. Democrats foolishly continue to step in the trap of the GOP Cultural War, such as with Confederate Statues in the South.

3rd parties are meaningless to me, except to Democrats electing Bush-43 and trump by voting for Nader and Stein/Johnson. They are who I blame for the Abomination the Supreme Court has been this Century ...

Deficits don't matter when there's an (R) in the WH. They only matter when it's a (D).

We saw that in the 90's, when the GOP Congress went crazy to 'balance the budget'. Then Bush 2 came along and the deficit SOARED, hell we fought 2 wars without funding them at all. Republican didn't care then though. Then Obama gets elected and again deficits were all important to the hypocritical, Republicans.

Now there's another (R) in the WH and deficits again will no longer matter to the GOP Congress.

What's really sickening is the Republican voter falls for the GOP's lies and deception every, single time.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me sort of thing. The GOP voter gets fooled over and over, but they just can't seem to catch onto the Republicans lies.

And then, we swing full circle. It's a lot easier to tax the **** out of people to make your point. And your side never admits to the little snippet taxes that you throw in regarding every day goods that are basically hidden from the average Joe who doesn't take the time to read the fine print in his monthly bills.

third parties are pretty much meaningless to everyone in practice. however, the binary system isn't working. i would briefly rejoice if political parties were banned outright, though that might just equate to a one party system, which would be even worse. i'd probably settle for a system in which political gerrymandering was illegal. that would solve a lot of problems.

edit to add : i'm not against third parties, but they have almost no chance of gaining a foothold in our screwed up system.

It's highly unlikely that anything will pass. The Democrats won't support anything that doesn't increase rates and half the GOP cares more about cocktail parties and donor contributions than they do about the country.
Blaming the Democrats when the Republicans control both the White House and Congress. :lamo

The problem is not party related, but ideologically related.

There is a strain of conservativism in American politics that seems hell bent to acquire power over everything and undue all the liberal and progressive achievements of the twentieth century.

As I've said before, I would really like to see proportional representation. There are multiple different variations, many of which could make third parties a lot more viable.

I'll continue to deal with the system we have and fight the good fight in my older age. I'll be 64 on the 5th anniversary of Sandy Hook, a defining moment in my Retirement that shot me back to teaching, and DP for that matter.

We can all forget about an end to GM under the GOP. This is why Obama and Holder are hip deep in redistricting for 2021. I doubt Democrats have really caught up with the GOP's REDMAP 2010, while the GOP is on to REDMAP 2020. While the GOP is on the Defense next year, they're very, very good at it.

GOP's have plenty of DEM targets of their own, and their Citizens Divided Money will not be nearly as split as that of DEMs. Otoh, Act Blue has been instrumental in raising money for individual DEMs.

My GOP Congressman Kinzinger just told Wolf that we're in a 'low-grade WW3'. WOW ...

Last weekend I was at a birthday party and an older woman started spewing hate at the Dems because in her words: 'Trump can't get anything done because the Dems are 'vetoing' everything he wants to do'. lol.. It was a party, i didn't want to push it further, but I did say that was impossible because the Republicans control both the House and the Senate. And I walked away before I acted like an ass and said more.

The people who listen to Hannity, or Limbaugh or whoever and swallow their crap hook, line and sinker. It's sad.

What's so stupid is that this shouldn't even be about political partisanship. It's about basic civics. I guess some people slept through Schoolhouse Rock as kids. (And really, who could sleep through Schoolhouse Rock?)

As with Sports, it's good to have two TVs going in our man caves, for me the getting colder Garage and the awesome Basement.

This way, we can see what FOX voters are being polluted with and then just wait for it on DP ...

i'm fairly concerned about Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. they have plenty of time to gut those programs while pretending to "stabilize" them.
