I can't believe we agree, I need a drink.

Dont do that obviously being sober is giving you clarity!
wink wink nudge nudge:2razz:

if a department store had greeting rules that its employees could only say happy holidays to customers and not any other specific holiday you:

Couldn't care less and would go on with your life
Would be offended, think its wrong but would still shop there
Would be offended, think its wrong but would NOT shop there

If it's store policy, I would avoid the store. We celebrate Christmas as a nation, and it is tradition. Let it be the employees decision, as long as they aren't rude if a customer responds differently.

"I would never shop there, because the great Trump said not to"

I'm an atheist but I always say Merry Christmas just to piss off liberals.

As long as the employees aren't screaming profanity at me while I shop there, I couldn't care less what they say.

And frankly, I'd put up with screaming profanity if their prices were cheap enough.

I couldn't care less. It's their place of business and this is rather meaningless. If I liked what they were selling, I'd still go there. If I didn't, I wouldn't.

Not different than when a bunch of idiotic political bull**** didn't keep me from eating sweet, sweet chicken

1.) thats your right
2.) no we dont many people do not celebrate it
3.) tradition is meaningless in this discussion who tradition? Happy holidays has been around my whole life.
4.) interesting so the employors should have no say on how the employee greets customers? How about when they answer the phones? address customers engaged in a purchase?

remind me what your stance was on the NFL if you think the NFL should make the players stand and if thats ok? if your answer is yes it seems you might be inconsistent.

For me both employorscan certain dictate what their employees do on company time with in reason. (direct danger commit crimes etc)

My my, I must have hit a nerve.

No. The post came of very partisan and angry. So "partisan hackery" suited the tone of your post very well.

Now that I think about it. It did not "hit a nerve" but it certainly did tickle my funny bone.

Then you should thank me for the amusement provided.

If we exclude every custom from society because it may offend someone, we won't be the USA any longer, we'll be some hideous mutation of our former selves. That's all I'm saying. Peace out Geoist.

Acknowledging the different customs and cultures of others is not about being 'pc,' it is about being courteous and respectful. Although I have met American Muslims, for example, who celebrate Christmas, I am not going to say 'Merry Christmas' to one I do not know, just as how a courteous Muslim won't say 'Happy Ramadan' to a 'typical' white American. You probably would be offended as such a statement might seem patronizing in context. I, personally, do not know how Native Americans feel about Independence Day and Thanksgiving. Some may be offended, some may appreciate the greeting, and others might feel neutral. I'm not saying it is necessarily wrong to say such things to a person of a different culture, but there is nothing wrong with being mindful to others when we feel they may be offended.

Do you really need me to elaborate? You can't figure out what our culture consisted of during the period of our rise from a British colonial state to say, the 1960's?

Why do you arbitrarily cut it off in the 60s? Like it or not, culture continues to change and evolve forever.

It's odd that you have to explain the basics of everyday courtesy to some people.

Hope about cups that say "Don't you dare wish us a Happy Holiday Season"!!!

Pointless. They are boycotting Starbucks anyway, remember?

So Starbucks could actually put "Happy Festivus, for the rest of us!" on a coffee cup, and they wouldn't (shouldn't) know because of the boycott.

What do you want to bet they sneak in anyway?:ninja:

So you should be all set for your seasonal job as a greeter.

and thats fine by me
but dont all employers do that?

i mean I guess there could be cases where i dont like it either but a company controlling how greeters greet in a store im fine with. Just like how they can control how you answer the company phone etc.

i guess i did vote i would still shop their
