Which is worse...

1) A liar?

or

2) A person who defends a liar?

If the person is defending a liar and they know what they are defending is a lie, then they are a liar themselves.

It depends on the lie. The lie depends on intent.

Let me take it further with an assumption that you are referring to a press secretary lying for a US President.

If the press secretary happened to profess a religious conviction I would then expect that person - especially given the press secretary's job - to make an honest choice of allegiance either to closely held religious principles or to a lies and deception. Unless of course the press secretary's religion supports lying and deceit.

The liar; the defender may not know that the liar is lying.

Did the president claim to have dodged sniper fire in Bosnia?

No; he just he was going to fix health care and we'd love it, it'll be so fantastic.

You think President Trump knew it couldn't be fixed by the government?

He said his version was going to be fantastic.

Hmm...

Hard to find a universal answer, since everyone lies periodically...and anyone who claims they do not ever lie is either a saint, or a liar. ;)

Now if one is narrowing down to defending a single lie, then it would depend on the type of lie.

We have white lies. I've done that from time to time, for example when I try to reassure someone who is very sick or injured in order to keep them fighting the illness or injury. I would certainly defend someone who lies like that.

We have kind lies. People lie to prevent disappointing someone or hurting them. For example, someone you like but don't love who clearly loves (or is infatuated) with you that you tell it is not them but you that can't handle it. I'd defend that type of lie too.

Then we have exaggeration lies. People who exaggerate their accomplishments or goals to make themselves seem more important. I could defend some of those as long as it was simply done out of a desire to feel better about themselves and not designed to diminish someone else.

We have lies designed to take advantage of someone. I'd be hard put to defend those kinds of lies.

We have lies designed to hurt others. People who are jealous and want to destroy someone else out of hate or spite. I could not defend those types either.

Finally we have pathological liars. I would tend to have them seek treatment...while avoiding them.

In any case, as I have just shown, there is no absolute either/or in the choices offered. So I choose neither. :coffeepap:

I'm going with the liar defender.

A.) either they are stupid, or B.) apologist for personal gain. Both are worse than being the liar, who is, in essence, only manipulating the yahoos in groups A and B.

A defender of a liar. Some people are just no good. They lie all the time. What is a shame though is when otherwise decent people trash their own dignity by constantly defending them.

Moreover, a liar often can't do that much damage on their own, they need people to be complicit in their lies and others to defend them and rationalize for them.

There are liars, damned liars and statisticians.

I suspect that whatever we end up with in regards to the EO will be a massive improvement over obamacare.

Not likely. If that were going to happen, it would have by now. The market controls heath care, nobody else.

What's wrong with being a liar? I've been married 47 years and lying has come in quite handy at times.

I especially like lies that spare people's feelings.

What you need to understand about Trump is he never lies. He does believe he can produce a better health care package, that the Iran deal is bad for the US, North Korea is a major threat, and we need tax reform. Like the rest of us, he believes his opinions are durn near facts. And like the rest of us, he only lets in facts that support his opinions. That's what we all do, what the MSM does, and what all the talking heads do.

Then how could an executive order have any impact for you to whine about?

Did the president claim to have dodged sniper fire in Bosnia?

As far as I know the question has never come up concerning the President and Bosnia. Who knows what the hell he would say if asked? Who the hell knows what he would say if asked again 3 days later? It's hard enough to get his lumpy ass over to Puerto Rico where Americans are in dire straits.

Trump did however claim fifty-eleventy bone spurs in his heel - he cannot remember which one - and academic deferments during the Vietnam War. He wanted to sign up. Dammit! He wanted to step up for his country, but he couldn't.

In addition, patriot Trump also claims that his high draft number keep him out. That is in itself remarkable because if you wanted to sign up and ship over during Vietnam your induction number didn't mean diddly.

As far as can be determined no one in the patriotic Trump family for over a hundred and fifty years has served in the US military. But goddammit they will not tolerate people disrespecting the flag, the Constitution and the troops!

I voted liar.

In many cases, the defenders do so in ignorance...frequently willful, but not always.

And sometimes they do it because they are desperate to prove (even to themselves) they werent wrong. But IMO the liar is still worse.

What Impact? The man is lying; that's what we're talking about.

Check the OP.

That's not what YOU did. You claimed the market controls insurance. I am asking then, if that's so, how can anything he does have any relevance?

In fact, YOU are lying.

Haha, oh the irony of that last statement.
