Trump did however claim fifty-eleventy bone spurs in his heel - he cannot remember which one - and academic deferments during the Vietnam War. He wanted to sign up. Dammit! He wanted to step up for his country, but he couldn't.

In addition, patriot Trump also claims that his high draft number keep him out. That is in itself remarkable because if you wanted to sign up and ship over during Vietnam your induction number didn't mean diddly.

As far as can be determined no one in the patriotic Trump family for over a hundred and fifty years has served in the US military. But goddammit they will not tolerate people disrespecting the flag, the Constitution and the troops! :roll:

Considering that your boy, Bill Clinton actually dodged the draft after having been drafted, and all of you libruls were and still are fine with that, I do not feel the need to defend Trump over draft deferments. At least draft deferments are legal.

Trump did not make any of those claims. Hillary Von Pantsuit actually claimed during a democrat primary debate that she dodged sniper fire in Bosnia. She also wrote a phony article claiming that her daughter Chelsea was jogging around the world trade center towers as the jets pounded into them.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt on that, even though one cannot always take the profile leans seriously. However my point still stands. Draft deferments are a big fat nothing compared to dodging the draft once you have recieved an induction notice. Trump did nothing wrong in regards to deferments.

A liar is only really bad if they have power. If nobody defends their lies they don't have real power. The defenders are worse.

How so?

It doesn't take someone with power that lies to to cause havoc. A person who lies against another bearing false witness has the potential to destroy another's life if he can find someone to believe him. And there doesn't seem to be a shortage of those who are willing to believe the worst.

They have the potential to start gossip and rumors that could destroy a reputation.

So no sir, it doesn't take a man with power to lie to end up with terrible consequences. Anytime someone lies about another causes great damage.

It depends on the context of the events.

If the liar is knowingly lying, and the defender also knows it is a lie they are defending, then both are equally problematic, although the further context of a potential superior/subordinate relationship involved might mitigate somewhat.

I just don't see how that's worse. Take the recent scandals with Roger Ailes, Bill O'Reilly, or Harvey Weinstein. People knew what they were up to, but they defended them. They kept the lie going that these men were simply professionals. In the process decades of sexual harassment, and possibly assault, occurred simply because nobody thought to tell the truth early on. I understand your point that one person can destroy someone's reputation, but if that one person has enough power they can destroy dozens of people's lives.

The OP made no destinctions between scandals in the media versus what happens in every U.S. town'. When someones bears false witness against another in a community, it can destroy them.

Liars start it.

Can't say there's much difference, if 2 knows he's defending a liar. The only caveat is if 2 may simply be misinformed, or perhaps under duress.
