How much less could you care?

I took your political correctness comment to mean you were against this. Rereading I see that is not the case. Still, those that do oppose it are free to start the Penis Scouts.

No, I'm not against it. Doesn't mean however that I can't recognize that the BSA has been being pushed to accept girls for a very long time now. They've been sued over it, they've been called misogynistic and many other names in the book and bullied for years to accept girls into their organization. All in the name of equality and PCness.

That said, and this is the part where I show my "care", I think that they should now change their name. Boy Scouts isn't exactly a correct name for them anymore. Keeping the name would make it a misnomer.

As long as they can keep the "Weblos".

You do realize this is an action being taken VOLUNTARILY by the Boy Scout organization themselves right?

No court order is making this happen. Nobody is forcing the Boy Scouts to do this.

The Boy Scouts themselves are opening their doors through their own choice.

Bravo to them for being able to operate as they please. Sounds rather American to me.

Something tells me that you felt differently when they made the decision for their organization to not have gay troop leaders. You post a lot of sarcasm and snark for someone whose views are really pretty simplistic. If you agree with the action/speech it's good and anyone who doesn't support it is terrible, just terrible, but if you disagree with it then it's bad and shouldn't be respected.

So you're suggesting I'm a conservative are you? ;)

Its a political move at best.

They are trying to appease the current form of liberal stupidity that is currently attempting to strangle the country.

It started several months ago when 1 girl tried to join the boy scouts, and got all butt hurt when she wasn't allowed. Then went running to the media. This is its own indication of public relations fallout.

I don't care either way.
Combine them might be best.

I'm certainly not going to get all bent over the idea of girls being allowed into Boy Scout troops.

Oh, the horror!

The purpose of this is to emasculate the boys and have them wear rainbow shirts and talk about feelings, instead of teaching survival and leadership skills. Maybe they should issue every boy an EZ Bake oven and a ****ing doll house!

I wasn’t really questioning the reasons for your objection, just the scale of your exaggerated rhetoric in response. Even if you don’t like this idea, I don’t see the justification to be so extreme in your reaction. After all, there are loads of youth organisations, some single sex, some co-ed. Why is just one of those organisations choosing to change such a massive issue? It’s also worth noting that worldwide, Scouting has been moving in this direction for a long time with the US being one of the countries which has been somewhat behind that curve. Like so many things, it's not just about Americans.

And I must apologies, I have just got off from reading some more of the current happenings.
This story was just one of the ones to tip my cup from full, to overflowing.

This was on the back of a 50+ year old man who choose to leave his family to live as a 8yr old trans girl, and was adopted into a family for that purpose.
As well as people attacking the statues of Lincoln & Roosevelt for some rather idiotic reasons, and I read a posting for a new position a Texas university that is specifically looking for a liberal, social justice, math teacher...

Just shoot me.

The Boy Scouts has dropping membership and needs to bring in additional money.

Overall the Boy Scouts is about civic duty, the outdoors, and developing these kids into productive adults. Those are definitely things that young girls could benefit from. I think getting kids active outside is something that should be promoted across the board.

I don't know much about the girl scouts. If there's a lot of overlap I'm not sure what the point is.

Start your own organization. You can call it the Penis Scouts.

Free market for the win.

Start your own football league. You can call it the Nation Can Kiss My Ass League.

Free market for the win.

Right. I think you nailed it. :lamo

I think allowing girls to join the boy scouts is the worst of the possible options they could have taken. They should either keep them separate, which I have no issues with. Combine them and have no separate programs, which I'd also be fine with. Or the best solution, create a third program that allows anyone to join and keep the boy scouts and girl scouts as single-gender programs.

Some boys will want to hang out only with other boys. Some girls will want to hang out only with other girls. Some will want to hang out with both. Why not have all three options?

I think you are on the right track with that line of thinking...which means no one in any bureaucracy anywhere will have anything to do with it.

I’d respectfully recommend you stop reading the tabloid trash who select and spin up the kind of stories you’re talking about precisely to rile you up because it keeps you coming back for more. Find some better quality news sources and you’ll get more important news reported in a (somewhat) more honest and reasonable manner.

Free market for the win.

Trump already tried that.

The free market spoke for the win!

If anything they ought to just combine them. Both boys and girls scouts are primarily a bunch of nerds, its boring - maybe 10% of what they do is actually fun for kids, and its a pain in the ass for parents that have a son doing boy scouts and a daughter doing girl scouts.

They both need to be completely reworked. Instead of all this garbage they do, what they should be are outdoor leadership organizations that function like NOLs but are available to everyone instead of just wealthy parents that can afford a program like NOLs. Work on getting kids fit. Require the scout masters and pack leaders to be fit themselves so they actually set an example. Teach them real outdoor skills and that should be 90% of the focus of scouting.

My son did cub scouts when he was in elementary school. Mainly he did it because his best friends were in the same den. So every week I was stuck up there going to those meetings, 95% of which were boring as hell for everyone. This was on top of all the other crap we did like baseball, school activities and so on.

When it was time to move from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts I told him to just look at the kind of kids that do Boy Scouts these days. Its 90% a bunch of nerds whose parents don't know what to do with them, so they stick them in an organization like scouts instead of taking the time to do stuff with them themselves. Like I told him, I take you fishing all the time, we do backpacking trips, canoe trips and so on. All scouts does it take time away from us being able to do the things you enjoy doing. Not to mention, I don't know how you could do high school sports and scouts.

Leave 'em. It's good to have them as groups that can address unique issues affecting a given gender of child.

There is already a co-ed group called Adventure Scouts, which is also a good thing to have. I see the merit of both approaches. We don't need to lose one to have the other.

I understand that there are regions where Girl Scouts don't have as many opportunities for what we think of as scouting-type activities (camping, survival skill learning, etc). I was lucky that my region did have that. But if that's the issue, and the main complaint about Girl Scouts, then we need to improve Girl Scouts, not abandon it and let Boy Scouts pick up the slack.

So much this...

I have no problem with a co-ed group, and such a thing being available is great. But this need to homogenize everything into one particular way that a part of society feels is right needs to stop. Options, choice, freedom of various ideas; this is part of the foundational belief structure of the United States that makes it great. I didn't participate in any of the scout groups (my sister was a Brownie), but I absolutely see value in allowing the Boy Scouts to be the BOY scouts and the same with the Girl Scouts. To allow for a group to do it in a segregated, gender focused away while another group may do it differently.

I am perfectly ok with organizations doing what they feel is best for them. I am confused as to why any one would make a big deal out of it...

Really? You don't know why people may make a big deal about something that was potentially a large part of their youth making a pretty radical change?

You....you're a wrestling fan. You can't POSSIBLY be confused about why anyone would make a big deal out of this change, as people get bent out of shape about changes of even less impact as it relates to wrestling because it's a change from how it "was when I grew up". You may not agree with it, but I know you're smart enough to not be confused by it.

I had some really great Girl Scout leaders, and my region had a lot of emphasis on giving girls confidence in what were, in the 90's even more than now, "non-girl" activities like science and survival courses.

My experience appears to be a minority, and that's a real shame. I think it'd be even more of a shame to just abandon it and shuffle girls who aren't getting their needs met in to a boy's group, rather than giving girls these spaces that they need for the unique issues they face and bringing other regions of Girl Scouts up to par. Having them join Boy Scouts just reinforces the idea that these sorts of things are "for boys," not them.

I'm sure there's lot of equivalents of unique issues for boys, especially when it comes to developing trust in other boys and learning the ability to ask for support or pursue "non-standard" interests.

It's also really nice to have a one-sex group you can talk to through puberty and that whole glorious mess. Especially for me, being raised by my father. I mean, he did his best, but I was like any preteen and wasn't exactly excited to have to deal with that without my same-sex parent. I'm sure there are tons of pre-teen boys in the same situation.

There's a lot of downsides to losing that, especially for those of us whose opportunities to do that sort of stuff is limited outside the Scouts.

I did a couple Adventure Scouts things too when I got older, and that was great fun. But I really benefitted a lot from a one-sex Scouts.

Actually, I do not understand why wrestling fans make a big deal out of minor changes. This particular change has no real impact on how the scouts operate. It just increases the pool of potential scouts. I am not one for getting upset over trivial ****.

Who cares, they're private organizations that can make whatever decisions they want to make on their own.
