Do you consider these two items headgear? Should they be classified as hats as far as removal during the playing of the national anthem? If you feel they should be judged separately, I have given each it’s own choice.

1) All Males Should Remove All Headgear During Playing the National Anthem

2) Visors (example included) Are Not “Headgear”

3) Doo Rags (example included) Are Not “Headgear”

4) Everyone Do What They Want

Mods, Fat fingered the “poll’ option. Little Help?

I will vote for everybody do what they want. Me? I place my hand over my heart. What I don’t like to see is someone purposely disrespecting it.

Is there an exception for cold weather? What if the wind blows your hat off? Why doesn't the rule apply to females? In my opinion a visor is a hat since it has a bill. Exposing hat hair is very disrespectful!

According to Emily, Females should remove baseball type caps for the music and passing flag. Always learn things here, Thanks!

Nothing re: gender neutral yet. Lawsuits waiting to happen.

I consider the removing hats to be more of a religious thing. Not specified was whether this was an indoor or outdoor rule. I do not consider wearing a hat to be disrespectful in any circumstances.

4) Everyone do what they want, but I generally get annoyed when men don't remove any/all headgear. Annoyed, not outraged.

I always stand, remove any headgear, and place my right hand over my heart.

With enough age and wisdom, I find that things that outraged the younger me only annoy the old me...... However, an Eastwood stare would convey the point!?

I’m an oddball. Even after a little over a decade in the Army, it’s difficult for me to wrap my head around the iconography of the flag and the national anthem. Not that I can’t see the intent behind it, and to be sure, displays of patriotism in large groups have had an emotional impact on me at times.

But with that said, I’ve always been semi consciously aware that the importance that we put on the flag has felt, for me, like it waters down the efforts and sacrifices of service members, politicians, activists, etc. in our country. I’ve never felt like the national anthem has really been a good way to show reverence for the battle to move our country forward and make it better. The intent to do that is there, but I can’t help but feel it’s slightly arrogant to think that it succeeds in truly doing so. To me, choosing to use our freedom and opportunity for good is the ultimate display of patriotism, and that’s often lost in the symbolism and patriotic feeling associated with small and ultimately insignificant acts like singing a song and staring at a piece of fabric.

So, I don’t really care if someone stands, sits, kneels, wears a hat or something else on their head. I just hope that how they live their lives is an active appreciation for freedom and opportunity. Taking meaningful action to make the world a better place than it was before they arrived. That should be the only measure of patriotism. Participating in ceremony is a nice attempt at a gesture of respect, but I’m left feeling like it’s ultimately pretty hollow.

So when I got out of the Infantry I moved to the 'heartland' where the 'love it or leave it' bumper sticker was a live and well. The nearest town as a tiny town with one blinking traffic light and it is the county seat!

So we had parades with a horse mounted color guard because we still be cowboys n chit. As the flag passed by I stood at attention and rendered a hand salute until it passed. I saw my very conservative neighbors talk, stuff their faces, wave at other people as that symbol of all the conservatives hold dear passed by virtually unnoticed...

Now those same 'patriots' have to tell everyone they see how disrespectful those spoiled inner city punks are and if they didn't have sports they'd be selling drugs in some crap hole.... :doh

Remove 'em, don't remove 'em... continue to stuff your face or drink a beer- faking respect for others is like faking an orgasm. Might make all involved feel good at the time but in the quiet moments of reflection no one feels good... :peace

What about sun glasses perched on one's head, hippie headbands, dunce caps, and beanies with propellers?

Toupee?
