No:

No. Pets should not be eliminated based on breed (race?).

Haven't we had this exact same discussion, along with exactly the same kinds of polls at least a dozen times over the years?

Why is this coming up again?

The answer is "no".

Like guns, it is the owner that is the problem. So, how do you want to treat persons that are irresponsible and create danger for others?

The cat is bored.

Absolutely not! You don't eradicate a breed of dog because of the humans that raised them. Eradicate the asshole humans that caused it.

According to some my Akita is supposed to be a holy terror. She's the sweetest most laid back dog I have ever had.

Pit Bulls, same as humans, are the sum of their parts. It depends on who raised them. Some assholes just have to have a mean dog and raise the dog to be mean by encouraging those traits. Sort of like Donald Trump, don't ya' know? Maybe Kim Jong Un also.J

lol...without getting into the political aspect of your post, you're exactly right. All dogs have the potential to be awesome or dangerous, depending on their conditioning and treatment. I say let's get rid of bad pet owners, if we really want to address dog bites and attacks.

No, but the owners who turn them into monsters should be.

German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans at one time or another had the same reputation. Pit bulls are called pit bulls because of their use in the pit of dog fighting. People who train their dogs in this way should be shot on sight, and their dogs rehabilitated to be the fine animals they were meant to be.

No, but owners should be chosen more selectively.

Thought I’d add a little anecdote. Took my last GSD to the dog park one day. Big dog. Weighed about a hundred pounds. As he was busy playing around the park with other dogs, nudge and chase, nudge and chase, in walks an asshole with two pit bulls. Young boys, probably less than a year. They proceeded to approach all the other large males and begin humping them. When they got to Josh, I called out to the owner and told him to control his dogs. He laughed and said, Oh, they’re just playing! Lighten up!”

In my usual laid back way, I ripped him a new one. “If you think two males humping every male in the park is playing? You’re a total idiot. But we already know that because you own two young males. It’s likely only a matter of time until they try to establish their pecking order and, if both are seriously interested in the alpha job, and if you’re lucky enough to be home when it happens, perhaps you can clean up the blood off your rugs before it stains. You are dog ignorant and shouldn’t even be allowed to OWN two pit bulls.”

He leashed his dogs and speechless left the park.

Others may not agree with me, but I’ve owned five 100# plus shepherds. All males. All gentle giants because they were well trained. There’s hardly a dog alive that’s born mean. They’re made so by ignorant owners who haven’t a clue. Ten to one odds these dogs ended up at a kill shelter.

Originally they were bred for bull-baiting and bear-baiting. But yes, they were used for dog fighting as well.

Pitt bulls are not a breed, but a characteristic. Its like saying exterminate all people with brown eyes.

Pit bulls are American Staffordshire Terriers. Any mix with their square head shape and jaw line is referred to as a pit bull much to their disservice.

Or the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Or the American Pitbull Terrier. I think there actually a few more.

My viscous AmStaff.

She shook it violently until there was no blood left. It left her very tired.

P.S. it’s actually a lamb. One so popular in the house that we had to buy every one we could find available online.
