God dammit no, we shouldn't try to ban certain breeds. In the UK, the dangerous dogs act prohibits the ownership of 4 breeds and the pit bull is one of them. Thankfully, there is no US state which bans pit bulls.

Huskies are more dangerous than typical "fighting dog" breeds, yet nobody's pushing to ban them. Such restrictions are unscientific nonsense.
