The Second Amendment should be revoked and replaced with a heavy focus on Gun Control

Would you repeal and replace the 2nd Amendment

Germany has a history of being less than civilized. Go back far enough, and so does England. Societies can change, if the citizens want to change.

They don't seem to want to change in our ghettos.

Leave the second amendment as is, and start executing all people convicted of heinous crimes, such as Murder-1, Aggravated Rape, Continuous Molestation of a Child. The death penalty is legal in 32 states, but only effective in a few, because of leftist organizations that repeatedly sue in order to prevent justice.

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I'm also a conservative, and I don't trust government to much very well. Since I don't have much faith in government, it would be inconsistent of me to support giving the government the power to execute people. Besides, isn't life without parole worse than the death penalty?

Exactly my argument against the death penalty.

Well American society is going to change, as people from oh-so-civilized countries like Mexico become the majority.

Simply put, no. Unless you're someone like Scott Peterson who would be a target on the yard. Inmates serving life in prison get to watch TV, use exercise equipment, play video games, play sports, & access drugs if they want, etc. Death Row inmates get far less in the way of freedoms and leisure activities.

You obviously have never been in prison. I had a job teaching in one for a couple of years. I don't feel sorry for the inmates; they were where they belonged. But I would never say prison time is easy. Maybe at some Club Fed prison, but not at regular prisons.

You are right but for many in prison, its often a better, and certainly safer life than what they have on the streets. and in some cases, prison isn't as bad as some possibilities on the outside:

The old man spoke up in a bar
Said "I never been in prison
A lifetime serving one machine
Is ten times worse than prison"

John Graham Mellor (RIP)

Now you're changing the parameters of the argument to include your strawman argument, which is 'truthatallcost said prison time is easy'. I said that doing time on a condemned block is harder for most inmates than doing time in GP. The reason for this is the isolation, lack of socializing, lack of sunlight, etc.

Except, he's not right. There are no inmates on Death Row who wouldn't prefer to receive a life sentence.

Here's your exact quote describing life in general population.

truthatallcost, "Inmates serving life in prison get to watch TV, use exercise equipment, play video games, play sports, & access drugs if they want, etc."

Yeah, I'd say you painted life in prison as pretty easy. You made that clear. But what if you were 19 years old and knew for a fact that you would die behind those bars. Everyday the same routine. Same bad food. Shave and a shower maybe twice a week. And ALWAYS having to literally CYA. Tim MCVay (Oklahoma bomber) asked for the death penalty. He couldn't face life in prison.

You were a teacher? Your reading comprehension doesn't seem to be anything you should be imparting to others. My list of benefits to life in general population was meant to show some of the ways in which GP inmates have extra activities at their disposal that condemned inmates don't. That doesn't equate to me saying 'prison is easy' or 'prison is fun'.

Btw, prison for YOU would be horrific, while prison for SOME is actually a life goal. Sounds bizarre I know, but the mentalities of some of the inmates I've seen are completely different from most people.

I see that when you're out of logic you resort to personal attack. Life sentence without parole in prison as the ultimate goal in life? What are you smokin'? Can you send me some?

Come get a job for CDCR, you will meet a few! Yeah, it's really crazy but if you grew up in the barrio in LA, and your only role models were shot callers for La Eme, guess what happens? You want to prove yourself by going to prison. Wow!

What prison did you teach at? I can't believe some of the stuff you're saying here.

Sure, as long as you're blowing smoke, so will I. I asked them alllll turtledude.

I actually worked with the bureau of prisons. its something that happens when you spend almost a quarter of a century as a DOJ prosecutor. One of my classmates was one of the top people at the BOP. I suspect I have a bit better insight about what prisoners want than you do. Of course I am assuming you haven't spent time as an inmate or have close friends who are. Suicides are common in prison. I guess some prisoners prefer dying rather than being locked up for the rest of their lives. the solitary confinement at Supermax Florence sounds as about as awful a punishment as could be devised.

Ok, I can respect that. But who commits suicide in prison, and why? From my experience, it happens because:
1. Inmates run prisons, not staff, which leads to..
2. Non-violent inmates are mixed in with complete psychopaths who prey on them
3. Grown men need to work, not lounge around in a large gathering of other grown men, as it gives them too much time to get in trouble, or to just think about how bad things are

I began on this thread by saying I wanted the perpetrators of heinous crimes given capital punishment. These types are usually NOT the ones who kill themselves in prison.

OK that makes a lot of sense

Thanks for making my point. Prison is prison. It's not where anyone would wish to spend their entire life. I began on this thread saying I don't have much confidence that government can get it right. So how could I, in good conscience, support the death penalty. I do believe the court system gets it right 90% of the time. But when we're talking about taking someone's life, it better be 100% right, all of the time. I'm not confident ANY government could be that efficient.
