Straight up positive or negative, what is your view of the NRA. If you want debate take it to the gun forum.

Re: NRA Opinion Positive Negative

The NRA is perhaps the most powerful and most regressive organization lobbying in Washington DC and in state capitols. It is a force for evil.

Stick a sock in it! Positive or Negative.

Negative. I don't so much disagree with the theory as I do with the execution. In practice, the NRA has been against every measure that could conceivably improve crime rates, even if it had nothing to do with guns or gun control and could actual increase the freedom of individuals. They've peddled all kinds of conspiracy theories over the years and encouraged paranoia and hatred towards other Americans. It just seems like a group that's more dedicated to aggressive partisanship, than actually about gun rights, gun use, and gun culture.

Did you miss my vote? The idea that a person cannot explain their vote is beyond ridiculous and YOU do NOT have the power to silence people when you start a poll asking for their opinion.

So you go and enjoy your own sock and stick what you want in it.

Re: NRA Opinion Positive Negative

The NRA, on a national level, is little more than the lobbying arm for gun manufacturers.

This new guy really thinks he can order us not to debate, or even respond, on a debate forum?

Rex, there is a forum. The entire purpose of its existence is posting and responding. And you don't get to tell people to be quiet here.

Might want to ask a mod to move the thread. This isn't a one word answer.

I never gave them much thought. I suppose I look at them as the same as any other special interest group. Trying to get favorable legislation for the people they represent. I don't view them as the boogieman some try to portray them as or as the shinning light from upon high. No different than any other group trying to influence congress.

Re: NRA Opinion Positive Negative

I see it as a teeter-tooter question.

I can tip the thing one way of the other depending on the time of year, and current situations unfolding.
I can also tip it one way or the other depending on the specific topic at hand.

I think in principle, the NRA is positive.
I think some of the positions they take in some circumstances are negative.

You can answer a question. That's not debating.

Once you start defending, or attacking, well.....that's not what the OP is looking for.

what you are asking for is equivalent to "have you stopped beating your wife? Yes or No ONLY and no discussion about your answer." Seriously, not a way to start a post there.

And FYI, there are BOTH positive and negative things about the NRA so it isn't just a one or other answer.

Re: NRA Opinion Positive Negative

I support just about any organization whose primary purpose is to work to preserve my Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms from being infringed.

I oppose any efforts to "modify or repeal" the primary guarantee of our right, clearly expressed in the Declaration of Independence, to rise up in force and attempt to overthrow or separate from any form of government that becomes oppressive to individual rights.

Do you have examples of all these nafarious things?

Poll is similar to voting, anyone ask you for why you voted the way you did in Nov16? Exit pols does not count all I asked for was a straight up yes/no/other. Was I in violation of any forum rules? I understand the topic may be emotional and tried to limit the answers so as to have only a numerical statistic. Again, if I am out of order, please clue me in!

I see it as positive. What is funny to me is how people ignore other much more powerful Washington lobby groups to demonize the NRA as some kind of powerhouse. In 2016, the NRA did not even rank in the top 50.

So come again?

Moderator's Warning:
This is a debate forum. That should be obvious considering the name of the site is DEBATE Politics. You do not get to demand that people not debate anything on this Forum. You post something then you had better expect it to be commented on. You are not a Moderator. You are not the Forums owner. Do not attempt to act like one.

Straight up positive or negative, what is your view of the NRA. If you want debate take it to the gun forum.

The posts made prior to this in-thread are going to be reviewed and action taken if we deem it necessary. Everyone debate as much as you want...so long as it is about the topic.

The numerical statistic in a non-scientific, non-random poll on a debate forum is completely worthless except as an indication of what few people decided to vote in a thread on which no comment is allowed, which won't be many.

lol....good luck, I tried directing a poll on here a little while back and took it on the chin *hard* for having the audacity to ask people to choose between the choices I specified in the poll, let alone trying to dissuade people from discussing the subject...lol...

I wish you had laid out the choices in a way that differentiates between our thoughts on the NRA and gun ownership...I don't like the NRA, but I support responsible gun use and ownership... So, I have to vote negative, but the assumption could be made that I'm anti-gun as a result, and I'm not.

Ok, off to voluntarily put a sock in it... ;)

Re: NRA Opinion Positive Negative

I don't have a problem with what the NRA represents: protection of the 2nd Amendment and the right for American citizens to own arms.

What I strongly dislike however is the incessant propaganda and myths the NRA shovels at everyone at every opportunity, inducing paranoia by claiming every attempt at gun control is part of a national conspiracy to create some authoritarian government, and demonizing everyone who doesn't agree with them. They're a propaganda machine that needs to focus more on gun safety and firearm knowledge than just spreading propaganda about "evil fascists trying to take your guns."
