Poll primarily for those who have said it doesn't matter what anyone does during a national anthem. If some of the NFLplayers in London remained seated or kneeled during the U.K.'s anthem, would you defend that as well? Asking out of sincere curiosity.

I really don't care what people do when any national anthem is playing, as long as they are not physically bothering other people.

Who the **** cares about the UK's national anthem? It doesn't make a difference one way or another.

These god damned NFL threads are becoming completely tedious. There are bigger things today than the NFL. I know, Trump waved his Drama Wand and got us all onto this, but it's not the mountain people are pretending this mole-hill is.

It would absolutely be their right to do so although given that they are not British Citizens, and that the NFL is trying to get a foothold in the British market it wouldn't be super advisable.

What I get so sick and tired of is people attacking someone's position based on the means in which they highlight their position rather than address whether or not their position has merit. If someone had a valid reason to criticize the British government, then how they chose to show their displeasure with that government should not really be the issuse. That is precisely what Trump and Republicans are trying to do by attacking NFL players. They know full well their President is trash, and he's incredibly unpopular, but rather than address the disgusting things he says and does they want to turn it around and make it about military soldiers and respect the flag.

Anybody who attempts to claim these protests are disrespectful to the military is making an obvious Strawman because they know damn well these players have a point, and they can't legitimately retort it.

I have been to many sporting event in the past. Pro games don't hold the same draw as they used to. To me the product has been diluted and the players make way too much money. They are responsible for the asses in the seats, so I guess the pay is warranted. I am also a veteran and my family has had a male member serve in one branch or another as far back as I can go. When I was attending games, when the time came I stood removed my headgear and faced the flag or the band/singer. As time went on , I would notice more and more people with hats on, talking or otherwise not paying attention to the ceremony. I didn't have the energy or the stamina to make it clear to all those that i noticed, so I kept quiet. This has been years ago. Many things that were important to me and my peers then seem much less significant now. The world has changed and I guess it does for all people who pay attention as they get old. There is no official "handing off" ceremony to the next generation, you just sort of fade into the background.
The players say their beef is with the law enforcement treatment of people who are not white. There has not been a recent incident, but there for a while it was a weekly, if not more frequent event. There were some cases that seemed to bear out the protesters. I admit that unless personally being witness to the events, I got my information from print, broadcast and computer sources. When DJT weighed in in Alabama, I'm not certain that even he figured on the traction that he would give the issue. As the PRNK situation has escalated, so has the protest for and against. DJT is not one to back off if he gets blowback, kinda like some posters here here go out on a limb and will not back off even when they are shown the error of their position.
Didn't mean to rant on, but wanted some background established before addressing your question. If the protesters have a valid beef (to their thinking), it would serve no purpose to protest the host nation as there seems to be no issue there. Given my family history, it an issue that I can see the different sides to. Some things are a slippery slope as events have born out this summer.

I told myself I would stay clear of this faux-rage NFL/Anthem issue but look at me. Here I am. :3oops:

First, let me preface by saying that Captain America (me) is a veteran who proudly served. I have the tallest flagpole on the block and, (inclement weather notwithstanding) Old Glory waves 24/7 in all Her majestic beauty. I am also a Master Freemason and a Lion's Club member (We Serve.) In short, my "patriot" credentials are firmly intact and beyond reproach by anyone. Period.

That being said, in regards to Kaeperdick's opinion or Trump's attempt to stroke his redneck base following by throwing out red meat meant to further divide our country, here is my opinion.

I personally don't give a ****. I have work to do. A family to take care of. What a waste of time over something that, at the end of the day, don't mean **** to a tree. I don't care.

And, when I hear other people whining about it, this is pretty much what I imagine them to be like..... :lamo

I just want to see a good game. Screw the politics.

Glad it was my thread that could get you to do it.

It is fascinating seeing all this nonsense about the National Anthem. It's like a gauge to some, people have to have a blind devotion to a song? LOL

I've seen or heard THOUSANDS of baseball games, and HUNDREDS of football games in my 60+ years on this Earth. I can't remember hearing the NA 10 times. Does that mean I don't love the US? LOL. I pay my taxes, I don't break our laws and I didn't dodge the draft, something Trump did and BRAGGED about it.

I can think of a dozen other ways to honor, and love and defend this country other than a song. WTF is wrong with you people? Trump DODGED the draft and he has to balls to call other people names. He ridiculed and insulted POW's. And now he criticizes people for kneeling during a song? PEACEFULLY kneeling during a song? Peacefully protesting, a right 1000's of American died for, but Trump didn't even serve.

Trump's a PoS, and anyone who defends his actions and language this past week should be embarrassed. But in the current political climate, they won't be.

To be completely honest, if you're gonna kneel for the US anthem, it doesn't really make a ton of sense to stand for the UK's. Yes, America definitely has an underclass. But, I mean... where do they think we learned it from?

Other - I would need to know the reason they were doing it. Context matters, as do the rules they are supposed to be operating under (league, team, UK law, whatever applies).

I would have been confused as these are American players who are making statements about American issues.

While many in the UK don't give a **** about our anthem, me included. ("rebellious Scots to crush..." I don't think so!) not respecting the playing of the host nation's anthem would be rude.

So disrespecting the American anthem while in the UK is OK but disrespecting the UK anthem while in the UK is rude. Is that what you are saying?

Whining about disrespecting a song is duplicitous. It's a blatant diversion from the actual protest, which is not about the song, or the flag.

No. Police in England don't shoot and kill unarmed black people, and then get away with it. What would they be protesting?

What's it like to live in a country you despise? That's gotta be tough.

It depends. I don't know much about the laws in the UK.

We don't despise the country, the country needs some ****ing work! Tough is being a Dallas Cowboys fan! Sarcasm meant!

Apparently he thinks it's ok to disrespect our anthem, but not their's. Classic double standard/hypocrisy.

I believe that the players should stand for "God Save the Queen." It is a simple showing of respect and decency.

Let me ask this way, can you envision a set of circumstances in which you'd actually post support for the country? Is there nothing positive we can agree on?

Looks like you're not liking my question. Tough, you get over that.

I'm so hoping the Cowboys do the right thing tonight. They'll pick up a lot of new fans if they do.
