Several teams did it today, most/all claiming it as a form of protest but at least they are doing it as a team and at least they stay off the TV when they do it.

I dont have a better idea of how they can get this off the table.

At least one team got booed for it.

What Say U?

Note: I am waiting to vote because I dont have my mind totally sure that there is not a better way that is possible with as divided/weak as we are now.

I say ignore them and let advertising dollars and ratings tell the tale. I do agree that's better though.

It is too late for that now. It would be observed as taking a knee at this point.

So if advertising dollars don’t go down will you stop complaining about it then?

I just watch the Red Zone here and we don't get pre-game anything when we get games. How big is the "taking a knee" thing?

It was just ten or so players last I saw last year...

Question for all the people getting mad about the anthem being disrespected, is this disrespectful? Not coming out for the anthem?

It really seems like it could be taken that way by somebody really sensitive about respecting the national anthem.

Staying in the locker room isn't going to cut it and ratings and revenues will continue to fall.

Revenues have already taken a hit, and no camping out in the locker rooms isnt going to make any difference.

Fan reaction to this started last year, long before Trumps speech, and now the league has to deal with it, or continue to play games in half empty stadiums and deal with plummeting ratings

Is it going to work is not the question, the question is is it the best option?

Sometimes there are no good options.

At least anymore there aren't.

Cause of squandering.

Ignoring a problem won't make it go away. It's a lose/lose move, those who favor standing won't like it and those who believe in the players protest won't like it.

The only complaining at do is on this website when someone posts a question. :3oops:

Do you know the one about how if one is pissing off everyone then we likely are doing the best thing?

From what I understand, this was standard years ago. They should go back to it, IMO.

The best option to do what? The best option to save NFL owner's money, or the best option to stop triggering the POTUS? They can kneel if they want to kneel. They will either get fired or the owners will decide not to care about people whining about it.

The great thing about this taking the knee is that it has distracted Trump so that he has completely forgotten about the pissing match he had with that other little fat guy in North Korea.

Not exactly the best thing since "pissing everyone off" will hurt the NFLs bottom line

I don't know. Kneeling never really bothered me. I thought it was rather stupid for a player making millions to kneel in protest, but that was his right. Now I think this thing has been carried way too far now. I don't think Trump should have become involved. But this leads me to my son who isn't at all political. He's 48 and never voted or even been registered to vote. Now he is a big Steelers fan. He asked me why the Steelers are protesting Trump? To him what went on today was nothing more or less than a protest against Trump. He got me wondering, how many non-political football fans think this protest is all about Trump and nothing else? He knows there have been protests and demonstrations against Trump since he has been elected. Is it possible this sitting out the National Anthem or kneeling for the Anthem has become nothing more than a protest against Trump in the non-political minds?

I do agree with him on one thing, he said politics has no place in football. As my grand pappy used to say, there is a time and place for everything. The place for protesting is a street march or a rally, not in sports. We watch football games to get us away from the daily drudge of life, to live in a fantasy world for a couple of hours. To forget the realities of the world and politics. If I want politics, I will go to sites like this one, when I don't want politics I will read a book, watch TV and yes, sports. Like my son, I say get politics out of sports. Politics has its own arena as football has its.

Lol, its a horrible solution. The anthems so offensive now entire teams cant even be on the field while its playing

So from now on fans stand and honor the flag and then they get to wait, because the flags too controversial for a bunch of rich athletes ?

Its not the whining that owners and teams are worried about.

I read somewhere that it was normal that the players didn't take the field until the anthem had been played up until as recently as 2009. If that's so then the commercial drive to appear more patriotic has backfired.

It just goes to show what a lack of leadership can do. I suspect the NFL brass are in hiding not having a clue that their solid gold ship is sinking.

Yes, best solution - but the order should come from the NFL so players aren't caught in the middle.

If the goal of these protests is to find sympathy for a cause, this is an extremely stupid way of going about it.

Its not the whining that owners and teams are worried about.

Multiple team owners have written statements in support of their players being allowed to use their right to free speech. The people that seem more worried are some fans and politicians.

aren't politics being introduced to the game with the singing of the national anthem and the saluting of the American flag?
