This is ridiculous. The government discriminates in a thousand ways. The navy seals discriminate against the obese. Your argument is dismissed

So because a fat person can't handle the requirements to become a navy seal, we should punish someone for being successful?

Its not punishment to pay what we deem to be your fair share of taxes. The door leaving this country is wide open. And the unfair discrimination argument is ridiculous

So what ever society deems as fair and just is acceptable? Do you have no basis for morality outside of what the government and society deem appropriate?

You are part of that society and you contribute to the consensus of society.

I agree, this doesn't detract from my argument. Society at one time held that a different race was inferior and deserved a life of servitude. Luckily, there were individuals that didn't conform to such an unjust society. This is no different, currently society has become infatuated with ideas that are oppressive to the individual and I am merely pointing out the injustice of it.

Universal healthcare should be a right like it is here in Canada.

It should be that way in the United States also.

Yes we call that democracy. Everything....and I mean everything....is ultimately decided by the majority in our society. It's not for everyone though. North Korea may be more your style

At times we have made the wrong choice....that is for sure. But it is our choice. And we seek a balance between the rights of the individual and the rights of society.

So you are fine with the tyranny of the majority? When the majority were against same sex marriage it was perfectly justified in your opinion? In Muslim countries that execute homosexuals, because the majority in that society deem it acceptable it is moral and just?

As I said sometimes we make the wrong choice. But if you hate democracy you are not forced to live here

North Korea is the antithesis of what I want, it looks much more like the utopian goal of the Left in my opinion, where the government rather than the individual decides on what is appropriate for it's citizens.

I suggest you look to scandanavia as a better goal of the left for society

In a civilized society the individual never decides what is appropriate for the citizens on matters which affect everyone. The collective will of the people does. You can do for yourself whatever you want up until the point where it has an impact on me.

If your lack of health insurance has a negative impact on me, then I get a say. When people who lack insurance use the medical system anyway and don't pay I get a say. When the prevalence of guns in society negatively impacts on innocent people, all the people in that society get a say. When the world is warming due to the emission of CO2 all the people in that society get a say.

On this we agree, the difference is you do not apply this to policies that you endorse. As long as it conforms to your world view, then you have no consideration for the impact it has on me.

This is arbitrary and tautological. The collective will of the people could influence almost any law or policy being passed about almost anything, and laws that are passed always have impacts on individuals, some more than others. Arbitrarily arguing something has an impact on someone, and therefore that someone has some sort of "say" about something... this really doesn't say anything. Everyone is impacted by everything, therefore everyone has a "say" about everything. Whoopedy doo.

When the world is warming due to the emission of CO2 all the people in that society get a say.

Bad example given the context. Which society? Chinese society is not American society, and neither of those are European societies. Each of those is a main contributor to atmospheric CO2. What "say" any ordinary American internet warrior thinks he has over Chinese society on that basis is off his rocker.
