There was no Native American genocide...

Did the Native Americans face genocide?

Genocide vs the various Indian tribes does not have to mean against all

Nazi Germany was not genocidal towards all europeans, just a few ethnic groups located in Europe

If you want to argue that their was specific genocide against the Cherokee then I would agree with you... to the "Native Americans"? No.

I know what you need to believe. They themselves stated otherwise; politicians, generals, journalists, the entire system. It's no secret. If you're unaware you have chosen to be so.

What I need to believe... I am talking about objective evidence not some anti-Native American agenda for ****s sake. Debate or leave.

Repeat: moving them off their land, depriving them of means of livelihood, etc. qualifies as genocide. You can look this up. But why bother? Let's commission a group of Native Americans to study the history and make a judgement for us. I am sure that they will be fair and balanced.

Indigenous people were killing each other, taking their ****, and enslaving the conquered long before Europeans came to America.
Wait...you are one of those guys that believe the Indian was docile and peace loving and loved and revered the land and shed manly tears when white savages threw garbage at their feet on the nations highways like in those commercials back in the 70s. Right?

Of course Europeans never killed each other or enslaved anyone.

1-I think thats kinda the point...no culture has been free of the scourge of slavery. MOST have moved forward though there are still 40 million slaves across the globe. 2-The post you are responding to was in response to a previous comment..."Indigenous peoples were living just fine before colonization" The facts prove that prior to colonization, aboriginal peoples were plenty brutal towards one another.

So what? Hitler enacted a specific genocide against Jews and Roma, but not on all semites. Does that mean the holocaust wasn't a genocide? You have been playing silly semantic games throughout this thread. It seems from the poll that most DPers have seen right through that. It was genocide, or ethnic cleansing, or mass extermination, or whatever term you want to describe a deliberate effort to eliminate peoples and cultures by violence and neglect.

I said it was too so apparently you missed the point.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday admitted Canada had failed its indigenous people and told the United Nations his government would do better to improve the lives of aboriginals and achieve reconciliation. Trudeau used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly to frankly acknowledge the dark history of Canada’s colonization as one of “humiliation, neglect and abuse” and promised to do more to help the nation’s 1.4 million indigenous people. “We have been working hard ... to correct past injustices and bring about a better quality of life for indigenous peoples in Canada,” he said. “Though this path is uncharted, I am confident that we will reach a place of reconciliation,” Trudeau later added. Acknowledging Canada’s attempt to force assimilation through residential schooling and other repressive policies, Trudeau called the living conditions aboriginals face “the legacy of colonialism in Canada.” Trudeau promised to move forward with a review of federal laws and policy, and to support indigenous self-determination. Asked by reporters why he used an international stage to discuss a domestic issue, Trudeau said he wanted to highlight what can be done without telling other leaders how to tackle their own mistakes. “This is something that is universal and important,” Trudeau said.

Well said. Now turn those words into tangible deeds.
