Simple question, poll to follow.

I would tend to think "disaster" is just about the perfect word for this storm. Of course they should get aid.

Of course they deserve funding. I am not sure how someone can say no.

You're unsure of how some would oppose aid to Trump supporting, Republican voting, gun toting, red state Texas?

Would it be different if the state were say California, and instead of a flooding it was a massive earthquake?

Of course Texas should get federal aid; Congress should have been called back into session already this week to handle this epic crisis; schools around here will have 3 weeks in before this latest congressional vacation;

Democrats and rational GOPs would have already passed emergency relief; except that GOP Rep. Hensarling of TX is already further muddying the waters of Harvey ...

Apparantly.

With Texas now having to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, lawmakers there will be looking for federal disaster aid - after they voted against a crucial aid package for New Jersey and New York following Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

I don't think so. Actually, I expect a pretty lop sided poll but there have been some references to letting us figure this out on our own. Not common to be sure, but some.

Eh, sometimes the immediate politicization of everything is a real drag, but I'm nobody to be casting stones. I'd probably do the same if the roles were reversed. This is a little close to home. It's affected people I know, not just in Houston but as far as Austin and San Antonio as well, so I cannot be dispassionate about it but indulging in useless hostility doesn't do anybody any good.

Absolutely. There should be no question about it. Any state suffering catastrophic storm damage should get disaster relief. Giving aide to our fellow citizens in their time of need shouldn't be predicated on regional prejudices. Ever.

Democrats, however, have delayed funding a wall which our country is desperate - particularly California, Texas, and Arizona are in badly of a need of.

Nah. Just charge a couple grand a head for hiring of illegals. Offer a percentage reward.

Supply side.

Problem solved.

And possibly a net "profit" rather than a multi billion dollar boondoggle.

That really is a false equivalence. It's not the same thing or even comparable, at all.

Would your precious wall have kept the hurricane out? Jesus Christ, Bucky, find a different soapbox.

Is this a fishing expedition to find some asshole who says "no" and then whine about how those meanyface liberals are mean to conservatives?

Spoiler alert... but that's what basically all of his polls are for. It's part of his charm. It's nice to know some things never change.

Anyway, obviously it should.

And X, may I suggest that if you admit you might say no if this were some other state simply for the sake of politicizing it, you should do a bit of work on how you process your politics and your ethics.

Only when NE democrats load a bill up with unlreated pork, never let a disaster go to waste when swindling the taxpayer for money.

Simple question, poll to follow.

What direction are you hoping this thread will take, X?

Btw... though I feel that any state that suffers such a disaster should get aid, since Texas voted against aid for Sandy, considering I live in NJ, I'd vote against aid for Texas just out of spite. Reap what you sow.

Wasn't Cruz's argument about all the added pork? Never looked at the relief bill myself, but I find it sort of selfish for other senators and congressmen to sign a relief bill only because they got a slice from the pie.

Yeah, the "poor little us, fuck everyone else" card really doesn't play very well. Yes, I want the feds to help people in Texas who have suffered so much in this storm. I just wish people in Texas actually gave a damn about those in NJ and NY, which they clearly didn't.

What goes around, comes around. When an entire state doesn't give a fat flying fuck outside of its borders, it's pretty difficult to muster the "OMG what a tragedy" for those same people who mocked, ridiculed and dismissed the tragedy of other states simply because the inhabitants of those states were not Texans.

I care about some of the folks who I know who live in Texas and might be having issues because of the hurricane. Texas itself as a state? Not at all. They believe that others shouldn't get aid and should help themselves? Don't be hypocrites.
