Question For The Left

Would you vote to rescind our Declaration Of Independence and return to English rule? Some of the very reasons which started our country in the first place no longer seem important to the left.

1. Many on the left are for higher taxes in order to fund more social programs even though our country was founded as a fight against taxes paid to the British

2. Many on the left don't seem to really care about religious freedom even though that was extremely important in our fight for independence

3. Many on the left want nationalized healthcare

4. Many on the left are for stricter gun control

Forgot to check the poll but this is a serious question that can be answered without the poll.

No. Many on the right are for theocratic and fascist ideals, and frequently fly the flags of foreign nations antithetical to US values, such as the Confederacy. Shouldn't you be asking the entire right if they want to rescind the Declaration of Independence and return to British rule? They seem to hate everything America stands for.

They are for suppressing religious beliefs while at the same time saying that they want to be tolerant of all religions.

Christians are not suppressed. Equality just feels like an assault to you because you've made yourself into a victim and want christians to dominate people of other religions.

Then your point fails.

Depends on the person. For example, I am opposed to any tax increase at this time, and for some tax cuts. I am far from the only one on the left to think that.

Correct, and not just those, but other religions too.

Some do, some don't. I did not actually make a claim either way. You should try ****ing reading once in awhile.

Some are, some are not.

Bull****.

SO not only did your original try at this fail miserably, when you tried again moving the goalposts, it still failed miserably. Do try and learn your history, and maybe instead of assuming you know what other groups want, maybe actually ask them.

I don't think I am the one who needs to brush up on their reading of what liberals want.

Putting words in the mouths of the Left? People on the Left are not for higher taxes for social programs. Where'd you get that idea? FOX News? The 1%ers? I think people on the Left understand that there are people in this world who cannot fend for themselves. Perhaps the Right would like to institutionalize these people, and keep them out of public view, similar to Japan?

Religious freedom? Where'd you hear that the Left is against this? FOX News?

Nationalized Healthcare. Many on the Right want this also. Our system is a dismal failure, and not just the ACA. The system before the ACA utilized Subsidized Emergency Room Care for the Uninsured. Premiums skyrocketed for over 30 years, under that plan. People on the Right want to return to Subsidized Emergency Room Care for the Uninsured.

Stricter Gun Control. Some on the Left want it, some don't. Personally I want it. Muskets were the technology when the Constitution was written.

I don't have to put words in the mouths of the left. They are plastered everywhere in black and white.

Maybe you should start over, with a new thread...

No. This thread is fine. The question is simple. Would you vote to rescind the Declaration of Independence and return to British rule or not? If you vote yes liberals could have everything they wanted.

False. Our founding fathers were not against taxes they were against taxes without representation. In fact the Boston Tea party didn't happen because they were angry at a tax that was imposed, but in fact they were angry that a tax had been removed.

No, the right just doesn't understand religious freedom. You people seem to think that religious freedom means having the ability to impose your religion on other people. The left firmly believes in everyone's right to practice their own religion in the privacy of their own home, or place of worship, and brandish their faith in public. However when you start using your religion to hurt other people that crosses a line. It's no different then Muslims who believe in honor killings. Even though they believe that is part of their religion it is still illegal because they are imposing their belief system on someone else.

Nothing about this runs contrary to what our founding fathers wanted. They simply had no need for it at the time. In their day there was almost nothing that a doctor could even do to save your life. If you really needed a doctor it was highly unlikely that one would be able to get to you in time to do much to save you. At best they could tie a tourniquet, clean a wound maybe, set a bone, but other than that they basically just told you to get some rest, or quarantined you.

Modern medical advancement as well as modern transportation have made universal healthcare necessary.

Weapons in this day and age have far surpassed anything our founding fathers could have dreamed of. The need for local militias has long since passed. Even right wing extremists must acknowledge the need to control various armaments like surface to air missiles and predator drones. It's really just a question of where do you draw the line between what is helpful for individual defense, and what is really only useful for assaulting another.

Hence, my question. Would you vote to rescind the Declaration of Independence and return to British rule so that you could have everything you want?

Now why on Earth would those on the right want to be ruled by liberals? It was many of the liberals here in the US who said they would move if Trump was elected president.

And how exactly does any of that have to do with the declaration of independence?

Ummmmmmmmmmm. It was the document that told the British that we were declaring our independence from them. I believe that is why it is called the Declaration of Independence.

1. No taxation without representation.
2. I'm not sure what that is referencing. If you are talking about things like the freedom to discriminate based on person religious beliefs I don't see how that is a guaranteed right.
3. And?
4. That's acting under the assumption that the wording of the second amendment doesn't prohibit some measures of gun control.

1. The UK taxes more than the US and has more social programs, including nationalized health care.

2. For God's sake, we can't say Merry Christmas and we can't have public displays like the nativity scene or the Ten Commandments. I went to my own kids public school "Holiday Celebration" where they sang holiday songs from several different countries, except for the well known US Christmas songs. How is that discriminating against anyone?

3. And, the question is, would those on the left want to return to British rule for a number of reasons, including having nationalized health care?

4. So, you're saying you're perfectly fine with how things are right now regarding gun control.

Only the alt right would vote to rescind our Declaration Of Independence and be governed by Russia.

We the People believe in social justice and turn our backs on pseudo or pretend libertarianism.

Almost all American from left to right believe in religious freedom to believe as we want and to private association.

Most Americans want government health care.

It is true that many on the left are for stricter gun control

The alt-right is but a very small percentage of the population, just as the alt-left is. And, only a partisan anti-Trumpster would say that the alt right would rather live under Russian rule. That's just ridiculous.

Now why on Earth would those on the right want to be ruled by liberals? It was many of the liberals here in the US who said they would move if Trump was elected president.

You're saying the confederacy and nazi regimes are "liberals"? Many conservatives want a theocratic fascist state, that is completely antithetical to American values. Maybe they should move to Syria or Iran if they like that.

This was the week of the slippery slope. My guess is that Trump supporters experienced "but Hillary/Obama" fatigue, and were really feeling the need to change up the tactic because it was getting old, even for them.

It started with "next you'll be going after Mt. Rushmore!!" Or Washington! How many of those "what's next!?!?!??!" thread popped up?

And now you Moderate Right. Maybe you loved that fallacy so much you just had to see it in action on the whole platform!!

- want the rich to pay more in taxes, and the middle class to pay less! What's next, you'll want to let England rule us!
- want nationalized healthcare as opposed to our current expensive mess of a system? What's next, you'll want to let England rule us!
- sensible gun control!? What's next, you'll want to let England rule us!

Yes, that's exactly what's next. You really connected the dots and cracked the code.

The rabid liberals have been going non stop since Nov 8th.

Hence, my question. Would you vote to rescind the Declaration of Independence and return to British rule so that you could have everything you want?

Of course not. There is nothing that I want that goes against the Declaration of Independence. It seems to be conservatives in this country that want to rescind the DoI. They don't want to treat all men as if they were created equally.

Ummmmmmmmmmm. It was the document that told the British that we were declaring our independence from them. I believe that is why it is called the Declaration of Independence.

Which has literally nothing to do with that you are talking about or do you believe that the Declaration of Independence is the same thing as the Constitution? Even if that was the case, your questions are still incredibly stupid and still don't even make sense.

1. I don't know why that matters. Taxation without representation was used as a rallying cry because we were being taxed and not represented in parliament. It wasn't just some anti-tax slogan.

2.You can say Merry Christmas. Companies don't use Merry Christmas as often these days because the population is more diverse now. I see nativity scenes everywhere during the holidays so I'm not sure what you are talking about here.

3. Why would people want to be under British rule? I have never seen anyone advocate for that.

4. I'm mostly fine with current gun control. I do worry about how easy it is to purchase guns online, but I honestly don't know enough about how that works.

Talk about partisan. I just asked a simple question. Do you deny the revolution was largely about paying taxes to Britain and about religious freedom?

Talk about partisan. Your 'simple question' was nothing but a blatant troll. You couldn't possibly have thought that maybe a huge part of the American public would want to return to British rule. That was just you trying to stir up a little controversy, drive that wedge another inch deeper. NOT being part of the solution, I mean.
You need to be reminded that all of the rights and freedoms you enjoy were won for you by liberals, and they fought against conservatives to win them all down the line. And it's still going on. The last one was gay marriage rights. The current one is marijuana legalization, and the next one will be assisted suicide, you watch. All rights won by liberals, all wrested from resisting conservatives.

What a monumentally stupid thread based on a monumentally stupid premise.

The alt-right is but a very small percentage of the population, just as the alt-left is. And, only a partisan anti-Trumpster would say that the alt right would rather live under Russian rule. That's just ridiculous.
No, it is not. The Alt Right is fit for Russian rule.

Geuzzzzzz, MR! What's tumbling around in your head to come up with such?

America has been under 6 flags. Why not pick going back under the rule of Spain?

we have representation when it comes to are taxes

religious freedom is good but it also means people cant force changes to your life based on their faith

3 and 4 seem good

Sure am glad that I spent some time and addressed your concerns, item-by-item, so you could input your ridiculous rhetoric blurb.

The most amusing part of this is the highly unlikely assumption that britain would even want you back. You do know that they are in the middle of trying to get rid of their latest partner , the ue. You really think they want to be chained to the us now?

Even if you rescinded the doi it still would not mean that england suddenly becomes responsible for governing you. Nor would writing up a declaration of servitude get you under the protection of a tory government.

If you were actually serious about this instead of proposing a laughable scenario of begging the non existent british empire back into exstence then your thread would be about getting rid of the what is in fact a miserably failed experiment in republicism and a return to a democratic westminster style government.

All that would be unbalanced stuff. But it would be politics as usual.
The problem is the way they want to get it. The way they have been redefining the Constitution instead of changing it the legal way.
