If the 2020 presidential election were held today, who would you vote for?

Depends on the candidates. There is no guarantee Trump will be the Republican nominee. However if he is, it would be someone else other than Trump. Generic Democrat is way too broad a phrase or term. Someone like Hillary Clinton, no way would I vote for her. I voted third party in 2016, I voted against both Trump and Clinton.

If the Democrats come up with a fresh face, not some northeastern or west coast liberal, preferably from flyover country like Obama, Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter against Trump. That flyover country candidate would most likely get my vote. Take note all three won and were a fresh face from flyover country. Northeast liberals like Hillary, Kerry and Dukakis all lost. Someone like Warren or Schumer wouldn't even against Trump. I'm finicky, choosy when I vote.

As I had done in 2012, I lost faith in Obama and didn't trust Romney and once again in 2016, I have no qualms voting third party.

More than likely Trump will run for a second term and also more than likely someone will challenge him in the primaries. There is no shortage of possibilities from the far right like Cruz to moderates such as Kasich. If I were you I wouldn't make any bets. I'm certainly not going to.

What are the chances that the Republicans won't nominate a sitting president of their party? That doesn't happen too often, but then, this is an unusual presidency all the way around

Seems like a silly question and or poll at this point.

Impossible for me, or anyone for that matter, to respond in an honest manner.

Likely the Libertarian candidate, as I doubt the Republocrats will put up anyone of worth.

First off, how is Hawai'i (Obama) flyover country? Second off, **** you, Georgia (Carter) ain't flyover country dangnabbit!

I bet they won't run him again if Hillary doesn't take another shot at being President.

Since Trump will not be the candidate, I will vote for Kasich or Graham.

Truly, a contest of wet towels right there. I can't say I actually disagree with a Kasich nomination, though. He seems like a solid guy, and he certainly would have beaten Hillary by a wide margin.

Since I am in a blue state I will probably be voting third party. If I was in a swing state I would have no choice but to go Dem.

I can't say I understand that logic. Even if you do live in a swing state, your single vote will not change the outcome of the election. If people were more willing to vote for the candidate that best represents them instead of voting against the one they like the least, we probably wouldn't have had a Trump vs. Clinton election.

Sorry to criticize but this is kind of a stupid poll. How do you know Trump will be on the Republican ticket in 2020? There is no such thing as a generic Democrat. Who is the third party independent?

Oh yes there is. ;)

Well if someone else gets the Libertarian nomination, I'll take a look at their platform.

That's kind of funny, in a way. Wouldn't the Libertarians select a nominee who agreed with the Libertarian platform?

Third party candidate if that candidate agreed with most of my views and is not an illegal alien ass kisser. Trump is going to have to do a lot of stuff before I would even consider voting for him and there is no way I am voting for a liberal democrat or socialist democrat.

It just may be that Trump is so sick of the #nevertrumper & Rino Republicans stifling his agenda. That he may be
the 3rd party candidate in 2020. If so he'll garner over 35% of the vote, he may not win but he'll certainly Ryan or
Bush or whoever the Republicans come up with. If it goes to the Congress because no candidate gets the 270 electors
needed he'd become Kingmaker. Just a theory!

Yes, but candidates rarely match the platform of their party to a t. Certainly, this last election must have taught you that the candidates your party picks are not necessarily the best choice available.

You mean, who wins the primary.

This.

Still too early. I'm sure that "generic Democrat" will be Kamala Harris and honestly I don't much about her and her stances to have an opinion on her just yet. Is it official that Bernie is running in 2020?

The currents on the sports book for Democrat nominee are:

E.Warren wins Presidential Election 8 to 1
B.Sanders wins Presidential Election 13 to1
K. Harris wins Presidential Election 13 to1

M. Zuckenberg, M. Obama, J. Biden & Dwayne 'the rock' Johnson
are in the 2nd tier at between 20 & 30 to 1

I bet on Kamala Harris early on at 40 to 1 her chances are rising fast
$90 to win $3600

BTW, Don Trump is 2 to 1

I might vote for a democrat as long as it wasn't Hillary. I wish the democrats would run someone who would acknowledge our problems and fix them instead of attacking my rights and freedom. I care more about jobs, infrastructure, labor rates, moving people off dependence on government and towards achieving the American Dream. To hell with monuments and statues lets fix our failed health care. To hell with politically correct instead focus on stopping the exploitation of aliens to make the rich more prosperous. Instead secure our border, enforce our immigration laws, do background checks and issue work visas and ensuring these aliens are paid a decent wage and pay all their taxes along with the corrupt farmers trying to exploit them. To hell with forcing law abiding people to jump through hoops and instead go after the people actually breaking our laws.

Those of us where not Trump-tards thought Trump wasn't going to win the primary and wasn't going to win the general even against someone as lousy as Clinton.

It would be a mistake to think that past performance guarantees future results.

Ted Kennedy came somewhat close to being nominated over Carter. Trump really isn't a Republican so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has some challengers and I wouldn't be totally surprised if one of them would win. But, as I said, I'm not making any bets.

I think it is very likely. There is no question Trump is not a politically correct party puppet of the rich and powerful that own both parties. The rich and powerful naturally will back any politically correct democrat puppet in attempt to get rid of Trump. It will also help to pull as much of the republican vote away from Trump as possible by running either a strong republican candidate or multiple candidates. Maybe the big bucks such as Chase and Bank of America etc. may actually put all their money on one party instead of backing both parties equally. Risky because they will not own both parties and could actually lose. Right now they still own congress and the supreme court with Trump being held in check with their media and both parties.

I don't know why they even have such a thing as a party platform when the nominees don't seem to ever match the party platform 100%. What's the point? Seems like the platform should match the nominee. So, if a pro-life Democrat or a pro-choice Republican should be the nominee then the platform should match the nominee. Of course the parties would **** bricks if that were the case. Already we've had some flack with Democrats reaching out to pro-life elements.

If the 2020 presidential election were held today, who would you vote for?

Suggestion. Next time you do a poll, click the option that shows the names of the members who vote in the poll. Anonymous polls suck, in my opinion.

Thank you....

Why be a difficult about this topic?

Take a wild guess on "generic Democrat". I bet the first thing that would come to mind is "DEMOCRAT PARTY". The "Third Party Independent" choice isn't a brain-buster either. There's several at the moment, but the "LIBERTARIAN PARTY" has been the most successful in getting included on ballots in most states. We'll probably see more "Third Party Choices" in the future.
