The difference is JFK had proof that Russia armed Cuba with ICBMs capable of carrying nuclear warheads. We don't have such proof yet concerning NKor.
*Do NKor have a nuclear enrichment program? Yes, we've known they've been working towards that covertly for years. The question has always been "when" not "If".
*Has NKor developed a nuclear warhead? No, not yet. They're still in the developmental stages. However, that doesn't mean NKor hasn't developed a mini-nuclear payload capable of being loaded into a long-range missile cavity and subsequently launched. Experts suggest such a nuclear device could be nearly as catastrophic as a small A-bomb.
*Has NKor developed an ICBM with the capability of reaching the U.S. mainland? No, that hasn't been confirmed yet but the best guess by missile defense experts is they've gotten close to successfully testing a long-range ballistic missile capable of striking the U.S. west coast.
So, I get the sense of urgency here. Furthermore, I don't think anyone who disagrees with your tactic is being passive. I just think we're all saying "Let's not be hot heads about this and jump into things without thinking them through".
We have the capability of seeing them launch a missile before it leaves the Eastern hemisphere. We have the capability of knocking any missile they launch out of the sky. And if we miss and they strike a U.S. territory, the U.S. mainland or any of our allies in the Pacific Rim, we have more than sufficient firepower to turn NKor into a desolate forest region. So, I'm not worried about them. We have far more military artillery and weaponry pointed at them, sailing around them and flying over them than their 1, 2, 10 of 20 mobile missiles batteries pointed at us. Is there reason for concern? Sure there is! Any time peace is threatened with military hostilities there's always cause for concern, but we should always be willing to take a breath...pause, and think things through before committing to any type of war footing. That's all people are suggesting we do.
Believe me, America will fight if it's necessary. Right now, it's not necessary.
Kim Jung-Un said he'd launch by Tuesday which is tomorrow (well, it's really Tuesday there now due to the International Date Line). So, let's see if they carry out their threat. We'll know if he was serious or if it was all talk if Guam isn't still a peaceful island completely in-tact come midnight, CST, Monday, August 14, 2017.
You should ask the intelligence agencies. You know, the ones who Trump blasted and the left got all bent out of shape about it. You know, the ones the left are defending so much and yet blasted them for being wrong regarding the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The left only believes what they want to believe. In any event, we don't wait until NK actually has this stuff and then try to do something about it after the fact. NK has tested nuclear bombs and they didn't light enriched plutonium with a match.
