Just a few days ago, a bill which is set to decriminalize hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and meth was passed in both houses of the Oregon legislature. If approved by the governor, Oregon will be the first state to decriminalize recreational drugs other than marijuana. This is a repeat in history from when Oregon was also the first state to decriminalize marijuana back in 1973.

Oregon's new bill will not decriminalize drugs completely as possession will still result in jail time but first time possession will only result in a misdemeanor as opposed to a felony.

good call, as was the decision to increase the legal cigarette smoking age to 21

It seems difficult to take drugs without possession.

I see that one as the same as the drinking at 21 when they have military enlistment ( and conscription should it ever happen again ) at 18. I think they need to decide when people are an adult and have it more uniform.

I think it's an O.K. start.

Portugal's decriminalization seems to be going well ...

Didn't go far enough if all they did was reduce it from felony to misdemeanor. In fact, that quite literally isn't decriminalization, it's merely reducing the penalty.
