Would you feel comfortable driving a car that is completely manufactured in China?

Would you feel comfortable driving a car that is made in the biggest war criminal/terrorist/crimes against humanity country, the USA?

I have nothing inherently against a car made in china; I simply would prefer an American built/assembled car hopefully that remains an option even if it does mean sucking up my love of combustion motors and getting a Tesla :-|

Aren't most of the parts made in China and most cars assembled in the US?

No. Most tier 1/2 suppliers for the auto industry are US/Canada/Mexico. I think(though I am less sure of this, my info might be out of date) most is US made. Among other things I have made for cars are blockout switches, side mirrors, wore harnesses, reflective bezels, and connecting rods.

Thanks for the info.

I don't see a safety concern.

Should the parts materials and quality meet or exceed the ones in the specification, and should the Dearborn prescribed assembly procedures be followed to the same quality levels as in any other assembly plant, the cars are essentially identical. Mass manufacturing demands nothing less.

Concerns about economics? Jobs? Perhaps.

If not in China, in some other than US country.

People wear Chinese made clothes, Buy Chinese made small motorized vehicles and tools. Use any number of other Chinese made items. Any opposition to Chinese autos would be overcome by the difference in price.

Not too long ago I owned two vehicles. A Mitsubishi and a Chevy S-10. The Mitsubishi made in Cleveland the the S-10 in Japan. I have no doubt both were mostly non US made parts.

I think the Auto brouhaha has been caused by Auto Worker's Unions. Wages and benefits went out of sight forcing manufacturing overseas. It's still happening.
It might be good for the US if some individuals started up some boutique auto manufacturing.

You can never tell really. I made mirrors for Toyota's for example. I would add, in a totally unrelated aside, that Toyota quality control was a **** of a lot better than any of the other auto makers I made parts for. Those folks in Kentucky picked apart what we sent them like no other place.

Start up manufacturers don't fare well. It's just too costly to start a new auto manufacturing company and you then have to compete with dozens of known brands with a similar product. The exception so far has been Tesla, which exists mostly on government subsidies.

Lincoln sales in China have tripled since 2014. Ford is moving to compete in the China luxury car market with Audi, BMW, Mercedes which dominate it.

A young Chinese colleague of mine from when I was in CCP China just bought the Lincoln MKZ luxury model which he customized for himself. Ford's "one size fits one" customizing of the Lincoln models to the Chinese youth luxury market is a big hit. He had to wait a month for the car to arrive in China and he wuz told the MKZ was completely made in USA. So I felt obligated to disabuse him of the made in USA sales line. As I understand it Ford makes the particular Lincoln line in Mexico with some of it made in Ontario.

The Chinese in China who buy Chinese make Chinese cars are those at the lower rung of the middle class. Few outside the lower (new) middle class buy a Chinese make/brand car. The only virtue of a Chinese make/brand car is that it's cheap. And you can drive the 150 km to your hometown to visit on Sunday then get back okay, but Chinese take the fast train for anything more than that.

The Chinese young associate age 30 who just bought the MKZ had owned a Buick but I forget the model. That's typical of the upwardly mobile car ownership choices of the Chinese Yuppies. This fast and furious Chinese guy works for AIA in China (AIG globally) and just signed up to pay rmb/yuan 300,000 for the Lincoln MKZ. In CCP China that is a humongous amount of money where anyone who makes rmb/yuan 30K anually is very rich. He'd put out half that for the Buick. The under 30 Yuppie market in CCP China are swarming to the Ford Lincoln MKZ with more MK cars coming into the market.

The move to China by Ford and Lincoln will have little impact on the Chinese make of cars because the Chinese brand are smoke boxes on four wheels that are way downmarket. And you can hear one such as the Geely from blocks away. Even in the state owned corporations only the managers can afford even a Geely. No ordinary person can afford to buy housing either the bubble is so huge.

WHAT? WHAT??????

Ford is moving a to China, with Trump in the WH? This MUST be fake news.

Kentucky makes a LOT of cars. Bowling Green is the home of the corvette plant.

I wonder if the Focus ST and RS will be made there as well...?

if I wanted to purchase a Ford I would not mind buying one from China, just as long as it comes with my favorite stir fry & the really good spicy Chinese Szechuan garlic sauce

throw in two or three really petite, horny Chinese girls with that order & it gets even better .............. SOLD ............

I like trucks and SUV's, not interested in the Focus or other little cars. If it's something I like, I don't care where it's made.
