Obamacare Repeal & Senate Parliamentarian: Rules Allow Robust Repeal | National Review

Those senators — Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Mike Lee of Utah — announced that while they cannot support the bill as its currently written, they are open to negotiating changes that could ultimately win their support.

The real question is should the Senate health bill pass?

I haven't a clue.

They'll make a deal and fall in line and make sure any of the major benefit repeals won't be felt until 2019.

I am pretty skeptical that it will pass. Perhaps with significant amendments.

Either way - Amend and lose moderates- do not amend & possibly lose Cruz and crew
Only takes 3 R Senators to scuttle the bill.
That does not leave McConnell much wiggle room
Ad as the guts of the bill are dissected, and people see what they will lose the pressure on moderates to vote no will increase.
IMHO- Those that voted for Trump did so on his many promises, 1 was great HC at lower costs, many will hold him to account if they lose HC coverage. The voter anger he rode to power could very well turn on him.

Once that starts percolating, and if the bill is delayed, well all I can say is people like having health care.

Yup. No way they create a situation where they can be held accountable for their actions.

Probably wait til after 2020 so they can blame the next president for the fallout.

My guess is they think maybe this bill will lose a few republicans but they think they can get a few dems to hop on board. but I doubt it will happen.

Agreed, I think Schumer has all of them in line to vote no

Probably, only because I think it's really just going to be a straight party-line vote. These guys holding out now are only holding out for headlines. I suspect they'll fall in line when the votes are called.

They'll probably need to up the sadism just a little more to win over the wingnut caucus but presumably it'll pass.

Dean Heller (R/NV) also says he cannot support this bill as it is (drastic Medicaid cuts). Lisa Murkowski (R/AK), Susan Collins (R/ME), and Cory Gardner (R/CO) have reservations.

Trump and McConnell will threaten and cajole until they obtain the 51 votes to pass with Vice President Mike Pence breaking a tie if needed.

The 13 GOP Senators who wrote the bill in absolute secrecy (with high input from pertinent industry lobbyists) are:
McConnell - Ky.
Gardner - Colo.
Barrasso - Wyo.
Cotton - Ark.
Toomey - Pa.
Enzi - Wyo.
Cornyn - Tex.
Thune - S.D.
Cruz - Tex.
Portman - Ohio
Lee - Utah
Alexander - Tenn.
Hatch - Utah

The United States Senate will screw hard working & poor Americans straight up the ass so, that wealthy Americans get a tax break & Don Cheeto will rejoice ............

I hope it will pass eventually.

There is no question the health care currently in this country needs fixing big time.

I wish the democrats would get on board and start putting their 2 cents worth in and helping to fix this nightmare instead of being the cog in the machine. This childish nonsense between the 2 parties needs to end. It is way past time We the People get rid of most of these bigots who refuse to even try to work together and elect some decent people into office that have the peoples interest as a priority.

We need to get rid of every one of these immature hateful crybabies and elect some new blood into office that will start working for all the people in this country.

But what about the House?

It's the same thing that happened in the house. A few congressmen stomped their feet prior to the vote in order to pretend they had morals. Shortly aftewards they fell in line and voted for the bill.

It was kind of hard for Democrats to "help" when they were entirely shutout of the process. You are being fooled that the Republican objective is to improve health insurance. If it was, Obamacare could be tweaked and made better. The Republican bills are masquerading as health bills when they really are tax-cut-for -the-rich bills.

Mind you that everyone, including liberals think that Obamacare isn't perfect -- but it's closer to perfection than either the House or Senate bills, which are going in the opposite direction.

Fundamentally, those bills, instead of adding funds that would increase subsidies; lower premiums and lower deductibles -- take money out to be used for tax-cuts on the wealthy. As a result, insurance costs rise, which drives Americans from the insurance rolls and makes insurance more, not less, expensive to afford.

They are not shut out of the process they refuse to participate in the process. They are the party of resistance not cooperation.

Really, that's what you truly believe?

"As of this writing [June 20th], the bill is being negotiated behind closed doors by a subset of Republican senators. So far, few if any details from the negotiations have leaked out." In addition, McConnell wants quick vote, possibly by July 4th.

So, how in good conscience can you blame the Democrats, when they weren't allowed to participate or even read the bill before McConnell released it?

No, I don't think it will. There's too much public opposition to what the Republicans what to do; which is pretty much turning things back they way they were with less medicaid. The Democrats are ow charged with analyzing the 142 pages and reporting back on the things that are jacked up about it.

Are you in favor of all having affordable HC??
