The question was, why are people outraged that Hillary Clinton lost, and I said because she was the popular vote, but not the president. If the question were, why did Hillary Clinton not become president, I would have nothing to say re: the popular vote, but that wasn't the question.

So, I'm left with a question for you. Since the above should be pretty obvious to anyone who took the time to read the thread, are you taking a shot at me because your partisan knee jerk reflex got away on you, or is it because you have nothing more intelligent to say?

I think it's more complicated than the OP posits. Sure, some ppl are outraged Hillary didn't win, but the the more important confrontation isn't Trump/GOP vs Hillary/Democrats, but Trump vs. Establishment, which sets Trump and his supporters against many GOP legislators, effectively all Dem legislators, the political donor class he snubbed during his campaign, most major media outlets, and the courts. I think much of this is counted as "normal" GOP/Democrat resistance which is only a small part of the effort.

The outrage is a product of the Establishment's efforts to stop Trump from getting a foothold on any major policy effort. So far, they have been successful at wrongfooting Trump at every turn, to the point that he has been unable to enact some common Presidential powers, such as temporarily stopping emigration.

I don't like Trump much, but I did have some hope that his approach might trigger some good policy chances that might break our deadlocks on several issues. Having elected him, we need to allow him his term.

Instead, the Establishment has gone berserk at the insult of an outsider getting the "big" chair. They are throwing aside rationality completely, and treating this as a holy war. What could Trump do with a term as President that would threaten these types? I haven't the foggiest. They're throwing away any semblance of fair procedure to quash him, though.

However you feel about Trump, he's made many of the right enemies. Everyone loves an underdogs with gumption. It remains to be seen if he can actually get anything of substance done, but this is the job he asked for, so he'd better get on with it.

People continually whining about the Popular Vote are basically Falcon Fans whining "if only the game was 3 quarters". It's a pointless whine only ever engaged in by the losers of a contest who are bothered that the actual rules they were operating under, from the very start, led to their defeat despite having success in ways that are utterly meaningless within the overall scope of "winning" and "losing".

But losing sucks, and losing to an entity you detest sucks even more. So the natural human reaction to such a thing is to find a way to sooth ones mind and the pain of losing by latching onto such things.

It's similar to how some Caps fans will once again be trying to convince themselves this playoff flame out doesn't hurt as bad, because ultimately we lost to the guys who won the Cup so we just got screwed by the ****ty playoffs seeding.

lol...yup. But, and I'm just sayin here, you can always change the stuff you don't like. Electoral reform was a election issue last time around in Canada, moving from First Past the Post to looking at other systems, such as Proportional Representation. It didn't end up going anywhere, because no clear consensus could be found, so it stayed the same, but we had the conversation in a meaningful way, and had there been a more visible consensus, it would have been done.

I always find it weird how Americans think their constitution is carved in stone when it's all about amendments. If you don't like the way it is (consistently, regardless of whether your guy wins because of it) then put forward the mandate to government to sort it out. Of course, that's assuming the government obeys the mandate of the people...

The only thing Trump has done in the best interests of America was pulling out of the TPP, and even then I'm not convinced his motivation was actually "it's in the best interests of America".

Every other thing he has done that I am aware of is a negative for America.

I was one of the most blatant Hillary supporters here. i had her in my sig for months. Lesser of two evils from my perspective. She lost.

I learned the hard lesson when I was a Gore supporter. let it go.

I didn't see the option "because they utterly hate Trump" up there. That's the only reason I believe there's so much outrage. If it was any other of the republican candidates there wouldn't be this level of outrage.

The EPA, and many other federal bureaucracies, have been bloated and excessively intrusive for many, many years already (as all bureaucracies inevitably become). This excessive bloat had little positive effect and a great many detrimental effect in the cost of doing business here in the US. Why have so many jobs fled from the US? That's one of the reasons. High time to trim them both (the bureaucracies and the regulations) back to something a bit more 'normal'.

What I can't tolerate or accept is the level of vileness in the personal attacks against the Trump family which aren't even in the spotlight, such as Barron. He's a 10 year old kid for Christ's sake! No rational judgement or self control from the left? Instead, from the tolerant left :roll: we see virtual beheading and virtual assassinations. Were it an honest policy debate, fine, but this? Its as far from honest or policy as you can get. Proof that the political left wants to make the country ungovernable, to the detriment of the nation, so clearly, ideology and party over nation (with Soros funding).

I think the illusion / delusion all along the campaign was that it was Hillary's 'layup'. The coronation that wasn't, to the surprise of many, and mostly her supporters. So whom of the right end of the political spectrum caused this illusion / delusion anyway?
