Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

I seem to remember it being both from the 60 Minutes report... though it was a long time ago, so it could have been the Irish.

Not that it matters that much, if you are swindled out of your hard earned cash it will not matter if they are US gypsies, Romanichal gypsy, Scottish or Irish gypsies ;)

Woosh!! Who knew *this* would be a spicy subject, did not expect to see drama here, especially the mods taking it on the chin so badly! lol... Rough day, guys?

Uh, no, an 11 year old should not be married, that's just gross, and blatant child abuse on so many levels. Nice to see there are still some subjects that both the Right and the Left can agree upon, albeit somehow managing to make it salty in the process....lol...I love this forum.

You know i do it just to keep newbies entertained too

We argue even when we agree because of grudges going back years, and recognizing when a douche canoe is trying to derail the thread to oblivion, because we've seen him do it 100x

Or in Henrin's case, probably 200x

Good point.

Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

If the rape happened prior to the marriage, prior to the engagement even, why should it not still be prosecutable?

It would be, but they were investigating why she was pregnant. The marriage was to hide that, to tell CPS it was consensual with her husband

See in florida and other whacked out religious states, having impregnating 11 year old is ok, as long as you're married

Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

The most amusing part of all is that even though the bible bans gay and sibling marriages between adults, child marriage is A ok.:lamo

in biblical times an 11 year old was an adult

another reason it's ludicrous to look to bronze age texts for a code of law in modern times

In ancient times you were probably not too far from death at age 26, and now you're not even expected to be an adult yet because you're still on mommy & daddy's healthcare plan.

nope, boys became adults at the age of 13 while girls did so at 12. But at least you didn't get drafted until you turned 20.

Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

You're accusing me of something i'm not hiding at all. You can argue my "ulterior" motive is invalid (that the republicans and the church are not massive hypocrites for blockading consenting adult marriage while enabling pederast marriage), answer the damn poll question, stay on topic in some other way, or gtfo

Now that you finally did answer the poll, i suggest you choose gtfo until you have put much thought into it

You might want to review the phrase "pederast marriage". A pederast is a man who desires and/or engages in sexual acts with a boy.

The victim in this situation is a girl. If you meant "pedophile" then that would make more sense.

Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

Why, of course. I am surprised that anyone would even ask this question. At one time, interracial marriage was banned. A couple years ago, homosexuals finally threw off the shackles which had for so long and so cruelly prevented them from marrying each other. How much longer must would-be polygamists, or daughters and mothers, or eleven-year-olds, be forced to go on keeping their special love for each other secret, instead of having society officially recognize and approve it?

Only when the homosexual, polygamous, interracial, incestuous, intergenerational family becomes just as normal as the Ozzie-and-Harriet nuclear family of this grim, repressed 1950's will this country truly be able to say it has been liberated from its bigoted past. Imagine how much more interesting updated versions of that hoary old family sitcom, or or its contemporaries--"Father Knows Best," "Leave it to Beaver," "My Three Sons," etc.--would be, if they featured these new kinds of families!

When i think of **** like "Brady Bunch" and those shows, i can't imagine how bored out of my mind i would be. Besides, all the scandals since that time have revealed how phony the families they depicted were - a veneer masking affairs, fetishes, drugs, and the capacity for all manner of depravity. Pretending they were any better than gay couples or interracial couples was the ultimate farce

Which of course is all you're doing in your 1st paragraph

"The Brady Bunch" was OK, but I liked "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" and "Leave it to Beaver" better.

Re: Should 11 year olds be allowed to marry?

I choose other. If the two parties can legally consent to sex then they should be able to get married. However if one or both of the parties are under 18 they need parental approval or to be emancipated.
The decision as to what is the age of marriage is in the hands of each state legislature. The marital ages are listed in the map in the article https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/26/opinion/sunday/it-was-forced-on-me-child-marriage-in-the-us.html
