HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Yale University dean has been placed on leave over offensive reviews she made on Yelp, including one in which she refers to customers of a local restaurant as "white trash."

Pierson College Dean June Chu issued a public apology Saturday after reviews from her personal Yelp account began circulating at the Ivy League school.

Yale dean placed on leave over "white trash" Yelp reviews - CBS News

Apparently June Chu made other 'racist remarks' online, but the CBS story doesn't say what those were. I doubt that she would still have a job if she'd insulted Asian or black customers by using a racial slur.

Should June Chu lose her job as a dean at Yale University?

She should but I'm sure the SJW will give her an award for standing up for their version of "the truth".

Good luck finding a dean that doesn't look down on people. Is white trash a racial slur? I know it's offensive to say, but I don't think it's on the same level as other slurs.

She shouldn't be fired, but he should be publically lambasted.

Sure it is.

If she'd been white, and described restaurant customers as 'Asian trash', you would still be OK with her remark?

You're not in the driver's seat are you?

No I don't believe she should be fired. Her Yelp reviews were done on her private time and does not reflect on Yale itself. No matter what anyone says. What a person does on their own private time and while not on the job does not equal automatically associate with their job/business. Let her be.

Whites are not a disadvantaged minority. She in no way contributed to disadvantage or privilege. Her comments do no harm at a societal level.

Did she claim whites are inferior?

No. If she is good, she should stay. But it is rather naive to use language that might aggravate some group or another, if you are in public view.

Which is occurring now. But are we willing to give her a pass here because she's not white? Is that where we're at in this country, special rights, not equal rights?

Especially butt hurt whiteys looking to play the victim card. Those snowflakes will take any chance they can get to play the race card and the victim card. Gonna need a big safe space if people are allowed to say "white trash".

That would work for me. I'm pretty tired of the now-continual demands to fire somebody over every single thing.

I disagree on the basis of the news report alone - bad press is largely seen as bad for business. It was not newsworthy if presented as a "some person" story it is only newsworthy because of the Yale employment connection. How often do we see "some guy on Facebook" or "some gal on Yelp" stories that are simply about private morons being private morons?

"Asian trash" would presumably refer to Asians in general. White trash has a specific meaning. Apples and oranges.

Since it seemed to be a pattern....I voted yes. I think a Dean of one the most prestigious colleges in the country should be smart and know better.

Well here's no surprise:

Chu, according to her Pierson biography, has a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California-Davis.

Her Ph.D is in a rather useless subject, from a school that specialized in enrolling students based on Affirmative Action, with free degrees in useless subjects.

Now she probably earns $500k per year at Yale, based on her double status as a 'minority'. This is the pork-barrel spending of academia.

I've no problem with the statement. I'm a white person that has no clue what mochi is. I guess I'd be fine with it. Cool.

It's a Japanese rice cake made of mochigome.

I never really saw the term white trash as racist and I don't think she was using it to speak towards all whites.

I have to admit at least she's putting her p.HD in Social Psychology to good use. Most people would use that kind of degree to get a job at Starbucks as a barista.

Why not? It uses race as an expectation of different behavior and in a derogatory manner. The fact that it was a majority race should not matter in the least - she is in a position of considerable power at Yale and that racial attitude (whites are expected to do or be better?) could certainly reflect on the grades that she assigns. I imagine that if she were called a slope or dink by someone with power over herself that she would not feel that to be an acceptable attitude. ;)
