Not unless you regard trash as inferior.

The term does not refer to all whites. You know this, but you pretend you don't because you just love to dishonestly play the race card.

Go ahead, play that race card. Play the victim card. Be dishonest.

Actually, it sounds more like she disrespects persons with certain sociological attributes and behavior patterns and not so much races.

As many people do. But she chooses to publicly ridicule white people who she deems to be 'trash', referencing them by their race. The point I'm making is, she would fired for doing the same thing, if she used any other race of people, besides whites.

It doesn't refer to all white people. You know that.

I certainly did address "Asian trash" and "black trash", twice. Both in reply to you and in reply to Truthatallcost.

Are you gonna find a source to back your claim that her remarks were racist? If not, admit you pulled that out of your ass to dishonestly play the race card and the victim card.

I gave you a source, the written statement of subject of the OP herself, but since she said it was a "matter of race" instead of "racist" you simply refuse to accept it. Get real.

Can you tell me what that meaning is?

It sounds like you are fine with insulting white people, based on their race, if they don't live up to your criteria. How is this any different from calling a black person a nigger, because they happen to be from a poor, less educated background, than say someone from the middle or upper class of African American descent?

Blah blah blah.

Find a source to back up your claim or admit you wrongly played the race card.

Just show me a source that refers to who 'white trash' people are. Otherwise, we can only presume you've pulled that out of your ass in an ignorant attempt at being intelligent.

Of course it's insensitive regarding race and class. Just look at all the snowflake crying herein. That doesn't make it racist.

Find a source that calls it racist or put the race card back in your pocket.

You made the claim, provide a source supporting that claim.

No, not enough said. It's derogatory to a subset of white people. It's not racist.

Provide a source claiming it's racist or admit that's a BS claim.

"White trash" is not racist, but it is classist. In that regard, it's not cool.

Do you need a safe space?

It is derogatory....period! I didn't say it was racist so stop with your usual BS deflections.

You promote idiots like this being in charge of the students who ridicule others just because they don't look and act like them.

Like I said, you really are something else.

For the last time; who is your official God For Determining Racism? Rachael Maddow? Kori Ali Muhammad?

That way, I know where to look.

No one says it's not derogatory towards class. It's not derogatory towards race.

And it's not deflection. You jumped into a debate about it being racist.

You promote idiots like this being in charge of the students who ridicule others just because they don't look and act like them.

She ridiculed class, not race.

Like I said, you really are something else.

Oh please. Am I supposed to insult you now? Would that make your butthurt better?

I think whether she should be fired is entirely up to Yale. They don't have an honor code, and she hasn't violated any of their policies. But she has brought them a headache as a representative of their school. If they choose to keep or replace her, that is their prerogative.

As a member of the white trash community, I'm not particularly offended. I would probably like the Mochi...

This is a debate website. You made a claim. Provide a source that supports your claim or retract the claim.

Actually, it sounds more like she disrespects persons with certain sociological attributes and behavior patterns and not so much races.

I am sure that she has the vocabulary skills to recognize a racial reference and has admitted as much in a written statement. How hard would it have been for her to use a term lacking race to describe exactly what you have pointed out? This was a slip on her part for sure, yet it was said not to have been the first, so it is time to admit, as she has, that her time to play unbiased and in control of not expressing her racial and economic class antisocial attitudes has long since disappeared. Yale should cut its loses, fire her and wish her well wherever she ends up.

We have the term "white trash" as a derogatory for poor, uneducated and redneck white folk.

It does cause one to wonder.......why is there no "black trash" designation?

Is it that all black people are secretly considered trash, so no lower designation is needed?

Interesting to note this absent terminology.

I prefer to be honest.

It does refer to some whites as inferior and it's a derogatory toward certain whites.

That qualifies as racist.

I don't have to do anything but sit back and watch you make a fool out of yourself, and you are on a long walk down a very short pier.

She should be treated no differently than if she were a white male making racist comments towards blacks.

Racist fantasy.

So if one claims black murderers or gang members are trash, that's racist?

Whites are not a disadvantaged minority. She in no way contributed to disadvantage or privilege. Her comments do no harm at a societal level.

Did she claim whites are inferior?
Use of the word "trash", combined with "white" would say yes, she did.

Apparently June Chu made other 'racist remarks' online, but the CBS story doesn't say what those were. I doubt that she would still have a job if she'd insulted Asian or black customers by using a racial slur.

Should June Chu lose her job as a dean at Yale University?
If the university is consistent and "equal", yes.

Personally, the whole hyper-sensitivity thing has long been way overblown. Hell, I make a dish that I call "white trash casserole" because the base is Kraft Mac & Cheese, so I am not offended at the remark.

I am, however, concerned with consistency and fairness and equality in application of rules and expectations.

You know the term does not refer to all whites.

Find a source claiming it was a racist remark.
