Debate Politics has over 10 million posts from 26,600 members. It gets about 200,000 visits per month at 6.5 minutes per visit. It has strong disagreements but nothing like Twitter drama.

Twitter has 3.1 Billion visits per month at 9 minutes per visit. It is used by all presidents.

Social media are computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks.

Yep.

..

message boards are probably my favorite form of social media. i don't discuss political stuff on Facebook very often.

No, DP is a topic forum, not a platform for social engagement.

Does that mean we can shut down the subforums for social engagement, such as off topic, dating and relationships, fitness, food, and leisure activies?

My vote is *resoundingly* yes!

Of course, it is.

Yep. Shutting them down wouldn't change DP's purpose as a forum for discussing politics. If the only qualifier for social media is to have a good chat, then the comments section on Pornhub can also be counted as social media.

DP is anti-social media. All y'all shut the hell up.

DebatePolitics is love.

DebatePolitics is life.

Unfortunately, I now have incurable eye-AIDS from reading those comments.

The stated purpose really isn't relevant if the use of it is as a social forum. Why do you think people keep coming back even after they've been banned? Because they miss the intellectually titillating debate? No, it's because humans are social animals, and for one reason or another a bunch of people have congregated around DP and decided that the social benefits are rewarding.

Agreed. I have Facebook friends who think Trump is a total fraud, others who think he's the best thing since sliced bread. I'd like to remain friends with all of them. I don't post political stuff on Facebook. Besides, I use my real name there, and people know who I am.

Sometimes, I do post pictures from the funny pictures thread, but that's not political. Never political cartoons.

I use my real name on Facebook too, and getting into politics is a super efficient way to invite chaos onto your feed.

When a thought is communicated to society, it is social media.

yep, this.

some of my relatives and friends are on a different part of the political spectrum. i have no desire to get into some pointless political discussion with them. message boards are the best version of social media for talking politics, IMO.

You don't have to sit down at Thanksgiving dinner with anyone on DP.

It's a safe haven for political junkies.

Hi, I'm nooo. This is dating site?

I disagree, we are both. Topic forums are a platform for social engagement.

The comments section on pornhub is social media.

'Social' is really broad. 'Media' is really broad. Anything with nicknames/avatars that serves as a venue for publication qualifies.

IMO.

Yes...by definition.

'Definition of social media
