When did gender become such an offensive concept to so many?

I don't know if this should be considered a good idea or a bad idea, maybe we'll just call it neutral.

There's nothing wrong with this that I can see, an actor or actress is a person whose success in their craft isn't determinable by their gender.

A case perhaps could be made that women are more emotional and thereby have an advantage of conjuring up the required performance easier, but that is pretty weak tea.

Of all the gender lines that we could erase, this undoubtedly would be an acceptable one.

I like the gender separation because it allows for more awards to be given out. If there was only one award for best actor(male or female) there would be many good actors that wouldn't be nominated due to less overall awards. I don't think that either male or female actors are better than the other based on gender. I tend to relate more to how males are portrayed in films though so maybe I am biased towards them. However, there are plenty of good female actors, although I don't think many of the young ones are that good. At least the famous ones.

I would prefer to keep it the way it is to allow for more awards to be given out. Not because the genders are vastly different in terms of acting quality or the themes that each bring to the table.

They don't really compare to their male counterparts.

Arguing Meryl Streep is in the same league as a Tom Hanks or Marlon Brando is like arguing the best female basketball player is on the same league as LeBron James or Michael Jordan.

As Donald noted, Streep is an extremely overrated actress. I don't remember the last time she was relevant for acting.

Bucky, this is idiotic even coming from you.
There can't be a shred of difference between male and female predisposition for acting but if you wanted to make a case for one, you'd have to say that women, of whom many have for centuries depended on their ability to act for the basic necessities and protections that make life possible, have a definite advantage.
The average woman you meet on the street has done more acting in the past week than you have in your lifetime. And you don't even know it.

Any actors here care to comment because that's whose opinions really matter.
