Left wing nut jobs vote against their interests all the time. Despite claiming to be for American workers,American wage increases,American job and tax payer funded aid and better schools. They vote for those who want to flood this country with illegal immigrants by granting amnesty/legal status and turning a blind eye to illegal immigration and those who wish to loosen immigration standards. Which take jobs from Americans, depress wages and strain the welfare system because of the Americans are either put out of work or having to work substandard wages. Most illegals either work under the table, work contract so that the employer does not take out taxes or are paid so little that they do not pay taxes. Illegals also bring kids into the country which costs Americans money to educate when that money could have been used to provide a better education for our kids. They vote for democrats who support so called free trade agreements which causes jobs to ship over seas. I bet if we looked harder we can find other issues in which the left votes against their self interests.
 
Yes, and I would not call them all "stupid and racist". The oldest trick in the book that the ruling class uses is to get those bellow them to fight amongst themselves. Corporations love it when one group of working and middle class people blame all of their problems on the "racist hicks", and another group of working and middle class people blame all of their problems on the immigrants and crime. While we bicker amongst ourselves, they make away with all of the money.

They vote against Obamacare, despite a lot of them being dependant on the ACA to survive. When asked about this, most of them don't even know that Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the same thing.

They vote to cut EPA funding to clean up their towns and states, and keep their water drinkable and their air breathable.

Hillary Clinton offered rural coal mining communities job retraining and wind power careers. Instead, they voted for Trump who doesn't have any coherent plan to help them, except to cut funding for services that they depend on.

In essence, Hillbilly Joe Bob in West Virginia voted in 2016 to lower taxes on the "coastal elites" he hates so much and to cut funding to programs he probably depends on to survive.

These rural hicks are misguided by Fox News and the idea that they are somehow "temporarily embarrassed millionaires," who will get rich one day due to the "American Dream."

And to be honest, I'm goddamn tired of feeling sorry for them.

They are ignorant and stupid, and can't be bothered to change their views. When confronted with the truth, they sink back into the comfortable world of fake news.

And they vote out for PURE RACISM AND HATE. They don't mind Trump's blatant xenophobia. They don't mind the fact that people of color will be hurt by Trump's policies. They refuse to give a single damn about people with different skin color or sexual orientation than them when voting. They even cheer the deportation of millions of innocent, hardworking immigrants, due to the utterly fake idea that "them brown peoples done stole muh jobs!"

Screw these hicks. I hope they SUFFER because of who they voted for. I hope that their water becomes undrinkable and they choke on their coal dust filled air. I hope that Trump's budget cuts to their hospitals and schools results in their illiterate children dying of easily preventable diseases like the flu. I hope that if the ACA gets repealed, Farmer Billy Bob suddenly realizes that he depends on it for his heart medicine. I hope that the stupidity, misguided selfishness, and racism and xenophobia of their vote comes back to bite them in the butt... HARD.

I agree with all that, but I still feel sorry for them....I also hope "it" bites them hard, because that's the only way they will ever come to realize the folly of their thinking...if everyone would only vote their self interest, then we would get what we truly desire, not some ideologically driven nonsense espoused by the fascist corporate world pulling on the heartstrings of the religious and patriotic.
 
Whereas, truthfully, I can somewhat agree and understand the frustration and definitely feel the pain of the OP but I have to say....

Since there is a moron playing country way too loud on his radio right now, and since tonight's football game is going to be a redneck slobberfest, I'm in the "gee, I wish the secessionist movement by these assholes would have been successful" mode. So, **** them.

I hope they choke on their poisonous air and water, and then enjoy handing out their credit card number before anyone will send an ambulance.
 
 
Won't vote in this, because I don't like blanket generalizations, especially those designed to hurt, but I do feel bad for a good majority of my conservative friends, who aren't rabid alt-right jerk offs, but just went a different way on the whole "plug your nose and vote for the lesser of evils", because I think they are sorely disappointed...or at least have a ton of embarrassing noise they have to sort through to find the good news, the majority of which have nothing to do with Trump at all, but rather the fact that the GOP can somehow keep the ship from sinking (for now) with a mean drunk captain at the wheel. Conservatives and liberals both want the best for their country, despite having different views on how to get there. I can't imagine that any right leaning citizen that isn't entirely consumed with brain-absent partisanship can say "Don't feel bad for me, I'm perfectly happy with the way this is going, and how this reflects on me as a Republican supporter".

So, ya, I do feel bad, for most. The die-hard Trump-ciples, well...they would say there's nothing to feel sorry for them about, so I don't.

The answer is to break up the country into more compatible zones....We are not the UNITED states...we are very much not united...we don't even like each other very much....No one likes being told how to live..Yet that's what we have going on, and people are not happy...at all.

I was more responding to the second part, which is why I said violent crime is at is lowest levels since the '50s, and why the upticks in Canada, the UK, and elsewhere are relevant. (And violent crime is quite a bit more than just murder.)

In any case, that is certainly not this:

the larger point is that the U.S. is no safe haven at 126 out 219...There is room for improvement.

Kentucky has gone down the drain since their massive tax cutting scheme was enacted..They want to produce coal so it can pollute my air...in Massachusetts...Do away with the ACA...., cut the school budgets....Am I supposed to feel sorry for them? Watch them beg the feds for remedial help....my money...
